Welcome to our first ever Quick Six! We hope to do more of these in the future and we think we got a pretty good one to start us off. We recently had a chance to sit down with Chris Stutzriem, Indiana State's new quarterback that transferred in from Wyoming. For those of you that don't know, Stutzriem is a 6-foot-4, 238 pound gunslinger out of Lawton, Oklahoma. Because he is transferring from a FBS school, he'll be immediately eligible to play for the Sycamores this upcoming season.
SycamoreFootball.com: You were down to Texas A&M Commerce and Indiana State. What was the deciding factor that made you choose ISU?
Chris Stutzriem: The big deciding factor is that family is a big part of the Sycamore coaching staff and with the players. When I was recruited to Wyoming, that was a big part of the way coach Glenn ran his team and staff.
SycamoreFootball.com: Speaking of your decision to come to State. How did you get involved with Indiana State?
Chris Stutzriem: I got involved when I got my release. I sent feelers out to schools that I thought would be a good fit, about 10 schools. I was contacted by all of them and then just went through the whole recruiting process again as I did in high school.
SycamoreFootball.com: For those Sycamore fans that haven't seen you play, how would you describe yourself as a player? Is there another college or pro quarterback that you'd compare yourself to or model your game after?
Chris Stutzriem: I would like to say that I'm definetly a pocket passer and get the ball to the play makers. I only run when I have to . I also love changing the plays at the line of scrimmage to put us in the best situation for whatever a defense is doing. I am a very, very confident player and sometimes people think I'm cocky but I'm not at all, just very confident.
I would say I try and be a technician like Peyton Manning in knowing every little detail but I play with a lot of excitement like Brett Favre... but I probably look more like Daunte Culpepper. [laughs]
SycamoreFootball.com: Now that we got the serious stuff out of the way, let's get down to the important stuff. Some folks wear the same undershirt all season, some have lucky socks. Do you have any rituals or superstitions you follow?
Chris Stutzriem: I always have the same routine on game day with going and playing catch before the game, then doing some other things the same way every game.
SycamoreFootball.com: Keepin' some secrets -- we like that. If we were to check out your music playlist, what would we find on it? Is there a specific song that you listen to right before kickoff to get you pumped?
Chris Stutzriem: I like anything that has a good beat, whether its country or rap or classical. On gameday, I have to listen to a song that I listened to in high school, "Police Can't Break It Up" by Pastor Troy.
SycamoreFootball.com: Good tune! I'll make sure to link it on the site. Finally, if there is one thing you want Sycamore football fans to know about you, what is it?
Chris Stutzriem: I would say that I want everyone to know that I'm a good guy and will work as hard as I can for what I believe in and that I will give everything I have to make ISU a winning program again. I am very excited to meet a lot of people and I hope we sell out every game and we as a team will do the best we can in doing the right things on and off the field.
I want people to know that where ever or whenever they see me or anyone that they can come up and introduce themselves to us or just say hello. We are just normal guys who happen to go to school and play football. Another thing about me is that I'm an easy going guy who will fight for my teammates and my coaches. I'm also a big prankster and like to have fun. Also, I'm big on doing community service projects and helping out around town. I want to keep doing a can food drive before Thanksgiving as I did in high school and at Wyoming.
We'll Sycamore fans, it looks like Coach Miles was able to snag a pretty good one.
