Notre Dame is a pretty solid team, I didn't think we defended very well. I would have liked to see us get up in them a little more than we did tonight. Coach even said that in his post game comments. You had to figure that the Sycamores would cover the 17 point spread and they did as we were in the game the entire game. Disappointing loss, but then again I didn't really expect us to win this game - not very often do you go into South Bend and win.

Lathan: Still shoots some crazy shots, I wish he would play within himself a little more. He just puts that head down and is only going to let it fly. No doubt he is our main scoring threat but dang he's also our biggest turnover threat.

Kelly: Started out soooo hot and then disappeared. He looked like the old Jake Kelly in the first half and then they shut him down pretty good. He really did shoot the ball pretty well tonight, one of the few bright spots on D tonight. Had 18 pts, 4 ast., 5 rbs - pretty good line.

Walker: Thought that he played a BIG game inside, was really happy with the way he played and showed some pretty good touch around the rim.

Richard: Got his points tonight but didn't rebound the ball very well tonight. Didn't think that he played very well on D tonight.

Odum: Looked pretty average tonight, he got lit up by some good shooters on the outside, did have a nice block but he got an eye opener tonight. Welcome to big time college basketball - still a lot to learn.

Kong: Not sure why he didn't play more in the second half? Thought he played pretty well in the first half, missed some shots but made a nice move going to the basket.

Carter: Got us a couple Off. boards and that was a big plus but other than that he didn't give us much - continues to miss a handful of shots and he's not a very good defender.

That's all I got - 4 points off the bench aint very good. Not having Printy hurt us a little bit tonight. We are a deep team - but most of our depth is playing a role and that's not to score the ball.

We're not as deep right now as I thought we would be. I guess my expectations were a little high on a few players. By the end of the year, though, maybe. So far, the seniors have not performed the way I expected and I thought KD would have improved more. BUT, we still have a lot of season left.

Just now getting back to Ft Wayne after being at the game...

While I am not normally a fan of Moral Victories tonight I was satisfied. I'l glad I wasn't in the car for 4 hours total to see them lay an egg. With that being said I was VERY impressed with JK's play in the first half. It's too bad he went MIA for much of the second half though.

Lathan's reckless play was a little frustrating at times but I liked his effort. Give him time and he will come around. Some of the substituting was questionable in my opinon but hey what do I know? Maybe Lansing is still trying to feel this team out. One thing is for sure. This team has made HUGE progress since last time I saw them play at ISU-M.

Notre Dame's arena was absolutely BEAUTIFUL and the people there were super nice. I think within the first 15 minutes of me being there I heard "Welcome to Notre Dame" about 10 times. The atmosphere in there wasn't the greatest I figured there would have been a lot more fans/students there and I was SHOCKED when the ND fight song played turning a few time outs that 95% of the people there didn't even stand up and clap...

I think this game will be a confidence booster even though it was almost in reach. I'm looking for good things from this team once MVC play starts. Keep the hopes high Sycamore fans!!:sycamores:

Here's a nice write up from tonight's game. It's 10X more exciting than the sit on your hands ND fans.....snooze.

Oh yeah, I'll take ND and 14 points against Kentucky in ND's next outing.

Is this ND a final four team? Heck, is this ND even a final 16 team?

Ha...could this ND team beat last years Butler team? Nah.... They're good....but they're not #25 in the nation good. Maybe I'm wrong, but once they get into the meat grinder called the Big East...they won't be #25 in the nation for long.

P.S. How do their fans not come out and fill that place to the rafters when their school is ranked #25 in the nation? Just awful attendance at that game tonight. If it wasn't for the strong contigent of ISU fans there...the place would have been totally dead. Beautiful place to watch a basketball game though....and I almost forgot NWIstater sat behind KAPat1865 and myself....that was cool to meet another Sycamorepride blogger.

I watched the game tonight...we let 'em out of the gate to start the second half and could never quite catch up.

As far as the box score goes, the two things that stick out for me are the rebounds (Walker had zero rebounds) and the 3point shooting (Printy was definitely needed).

Assists-Turnover ratio was great: 2-1

Looking forward to the next game.

Jason you act like those guys have done something to deserve more than 2 minutes... Their is this thing called practice, in practice you actually can earn playing time - playing time could be defined as something more than 2 minutes...

Walker's zero (0) rebounds is NOT acceptable...what a waste of muscle! Where's Larry Sample (or Michael Kernan) when we need them?;)

My ears were perked on the audio when it wasn't rebuffering. Guess I'm gonna have to cut down those 300 yr. old white oak trees that surround my home, so that I can pickup a good signal! Do ya think the Sycamores will rebel?

When Richard & Walker went to the bench late in the 1st half, the air went out of the ISU balloon.

Not sure what happened to Kelly in the 2nd half...a total eclipse. Can't have this if we expect to go somewhere enjoyable this season.

Lathan has simply gotta learn risk mgt. when he selects his drive action...always have "out" opportunity, rather than get GELDED mid-flight!

Overall, we never threw in the towel and fought 'em hard...could've over played on "D" w/ greater intensity/design late in the game w/ only 3 team fouls - that's Lansing's job though. Low TO's were a blessing and indication that the TEAM may be jelling.

This was a winable game..... but... First Joyce center was a beauitful court and the people were friendly as heck! Was great to be by fellow tree fans, one who has to have a sore throat!!!! I felt we needed to put up more 3s, exchanging 2 pts at a time didn't help. Walker needs to cut down his "SKY HOOKS" but he's a beast!!!! Maybe putting the pressure on ND with full court defense a little eariler might of helped. Anyone knows why Jake had to leave the game for a short time???? flu??? If STATE starts hitting those close to the hoop shots, no one will beat them! I guess you gotta have faith and yea I do!!

My reference was for the season so far and you do have to earn "playing time" as others have noted in their responses. Likewise when you are put into the "game" you need to do something productive. If we don't get production from the 3 players referenced we will have difficulty when Richard and Walker are out of the game as evidenced yesterday and in previous games.

To answer a question above - Kelly left the game because he lost a contact I do believe.

The announcers on the ND TV link that allowed us to watch the game live did a nice job. They even gave a shout out to "Sycamore fans in Terre Haute watching your Sycamores put up a good fight here in the first half" or something to that effect. They were very positive about the play of our team.

I will say that ND never really looked like they were threatened by us, maybe it was our lack of defensive pressure I don't know. But we never really made them uncomfortable - yes we kept the game respectful but this was indeed a winnable ballgame. We never really played with the sense of urgency that I feel like you have to have to knock off a ranked team. You gotta take some chances, got make some gambles and I didn't feel like we did that.

Did Walker really have 0 rebounds? We did get killed on the boards something that we had done pretty well all year. Richard with only 5 or watcher really hurts us.

Did notice that Odum had 0 turnovers and 4 assists - you can say one thing about the RS Freshman, he takes care of the ball! Something that a few of our players don't do very well.

While I thought Lucas Eitel played pretty well I was wondering why Odom wasn't out there instead...I was encouraged by Eitel's play though...nice board and hit his jumper nicely.

The Sycamores hung with the Irish all night...what killed us was ND's hot start to the second half and Ben Hansbrough really knocking down some three's late in the game....that kid can play. I thought the Sycamores gave a great effort and it was great to see Jake Kelly playing to his potential. I think the Sycamores had several chances to WIN this game but we didn't capitalize on them. Jake Odum had a good game as well....he is going to be one heck of a player by the time he is a senior.

We played well

My take is slightly different ..I do think Nore Dame was threatened by us in the first half ... they hardly subbed then.
They could not play subs much at all

For ND
Scott and Nash each played 35 minutes. Hansbrough and Abromaitis each played 33 minutes, and the last starter Martin played 29 minutes and had 4 fouls, their 6th man Atkiins played 23 minutes. So tjheir first 6 men covered 188 of the 200 minutes played.

Walker looked OK and had 2 rebounds.

It was a beautiful arena and everyone was extremely cordial. I bellowed loudly through most of the game and was visited by an usher who appeared to enjoy it ... and said if I lose my voice and am too quiet in the 2nd half he may have to eject me.

Many many workers said "welcome to Notre Dame."

The only drawback was that I could not buy a program anywhere. It is good I watched the Georgia - Notre Dame came so new most of the ND players. Several others tried to buy a program but could not. After the game I said to one worker that it was strange that no programs were sold. He said the guy responsible for the programs never showed up and was SURE Notre Dame would not tolerate this ...he said they are very strict on accountability and that he was sure there would be repercussions ...I enjoyed his response

It was a great bus trip and got to know the Sycamore fans a little better. I believe a trip may be planned to one of the MVC games.

There were many many other Sycamore fans spread around the arena ... actually I was surprised to see the number we had there ... now if we could get some student support!!!! There were 4 or 5 students sitting in a row a couple of rows in front of me ... but we need more!
