I think he will benefit playing with the SR. players as well he will provide extra depth so i voted to let him play.

I say let him play. He looks like he's the most ready true freshman and we're gonna need the depth if we want to make a run this year.

He has played well against exhibition competition.

That said, he can only benefit more from going one-on-one with Jake Kelly for an entire season in practice, building his physique and learning McKenna's system inside and out. Having that year under his belt and him coming back with four years of eligibility should make Sycamore fans giddy with excitement.

Bottom line is I'd like a seasoned and developed Odum for four years. Please and thank you!

There is nothing here that I disagree with. Well said!

If he keeps playing like he is right now, and he doesn't get redshirted, I think he could be in the running for freshman of the year in the MVC.

Odum played against some of the best competition the state had to offer in high school and did pretty good.

If he wasn't good, we wouldn't be having this discussion.
I think even though we are deep, we are going to be better because of our returning experience. Our upperclassmen must lead this team, with the younger ones filling roles. With the seniors and juniors we have, it would be best for JO to redshirt and come out strong next year.

I'm impressed with the number of votes so far. Just shows the level of interest in the team this year. I voted not to redshirt him, but I could go either way. I certainly see the benefits of letting him grow a year and saving his eligibility.

For McKenna's style to work, we need 11 guys that can play on a regular basis. Jake is one of our best 11 players.

Play him now........

He is a gamer...... He plays with a high basketball IQ. I don't know if sitting out a year will greatly benefit him.

Play the kid - he has made as good of a case as any player to not only (not be red shirted) but to play significant minutes. With that being said I understand all of you who think he should be red shirted and I don't have a problem with that option what-so-ever.

It's a win win either way. This kid is going to be a good player at Indiana State, he has great instincts. Coach will leave it up to Jake and he will make the determination as to what will be best for him as an individual. Because when making a decision like that he has to put himself first.

I think everyone needs to ask themselves this: Does Jake Odum have role on this team if he does not red shirt? If yes what is that role?

If you can identify that then I don't see how you can red shirt the kid?

the problem I have is if he plays, he takes minutes from somebody else. i feel all of the other players contribute and i don't know who i want to get less minutes. if you cut JP's min or AC's min you are taking a shooter off the floor for JO. I think JO looks great but I would like to see him work on his shot and I have evey belief that as good an athlete he is he can improve his shooting.

If he's playing in a combo involving Kelly, Marshall, Reed, Lathan, Printy, Carter...do we really needs Odum's shooting or his passing/ball movement ability?

I agree 100%

His passing and ballhandling are very valuable. I just still say you want to utilize your upperclassmen as much as possible due to their experience. Against the top valley teams, you need experience out there. Since we are loaded with exp. this year, let's use it. We have not had this for a long time.

I just think that Odum brings a different menu to the table than his other backcourt cohorts, and with high TEAM hopes THIS season, can't compromise on mothballing. Other than Marshall & Kelly, we're primarily a SPOT shooting backcourt squad. Odum adds mobility to those "spots."

I didn't vote because I say leave it up to him. From what I have seen so far he is ready now for D1 basketball .....................but can you imagine what a 5th year senior he would be (not to mention the four years getting to that point) ?

He should redshirt plain and simple. With Harry's return where is he going to get minutes. The minutes that he played in the Indy game will go to Reed. He is more valuable in his 5th year than he would ever be this year with our guard depth. Plus he is the least talented outside shooting guard on our roster....don't get me wrong I like his game, and I will like it even better next year!

how many players can you redshirt each season? I think odum should redshirt because he probably will not get that many minutes a night because of all the older guards we have but I would think by thier lack of playing time yesterday that the eitels and mahurin are going to be red shirted as well.
