I think the biggest problem I have with Deon Sanders is all of the showing off he seems to do. He was in one of the poorest areas of the country (Jackson, Mississippi) and he was constantly "flexing" with Louis V and gold chains. Then he acts surprised that someone tried to break into the JSU locker room and steal his stuff.

If he just showed up and did his job without all the extracurricular nonsense I'd like him a lot better. At this point he dumped JSU for a big paycheck at Colorado. I suppose maybe he needs more money after blowing it on jewelry and ridiculously expensive clothing. Who knows?

First of all the guy is probably one of the top 10 or top 5 DB's in the Modern Era of Football... The guy made his money and has every God given right to spend it and show it off however he wants. You really care that he's flexing bling? You realize that it's pretty culturally appropriate for him to put on like that right? Rhetorical. I mean if you are really that put off with how he dresses and how he acts then I guess just look away - I suppose it's not for everyone. But to denounce it? Give me a break.

Given your age, you likely don't recall the Bill McCartney Era @ Boulder -- when Sanders can compete for and win a national title; I still won't care that he "sold out" a spring football practice/scrimmage.

As of now, Sanders is looking up a Boulder Mountain and McCartney, Barnett, Neuheisel, Folsom - hell, even Mallory are well ahead of him.

Yeah... Admittedly, I was lazy and didn't do a quick google search of Colorado football history. Perhaps because I really don't care - I should have assumed in the existence of the school they would have had some success along the way.

I wasn't really on here touting him selling out a spring football game... I was touting it in light of what was posted by @treeman because I don't really agree with his overall take of the situation. I think I articulated that clear enough without even discussing the spring game.

I think Twitch's point is more relevant. Not a single person thinks Colorado when they think college football powers. Colorado is now, for good or bad, in the news every other day. There is a buzz. For all of those kids that couldn't compete in the Pac 12 that jumped into the portal, Sanders appears to be bringing in more talented players. THEN it will be on him to prove he can coach at the big boy level.

When I think of Colorado football, I think of Kordell Stewart and Eric Bieniemy. Kordell played for Colorado in 91-94 and Bieniemy in 87-90. Almost 3 decades. That is like us reminiscing about Larry Bird because we had little else to talk about.

Don’t forget Rashaan Salaam.

Heisman trophy winner.

Not every "great player" makes a "great coach," --- his JSU tenure notwithstanding, let's see how the Buffs play

was never a big fan but primarily because of his on-field personality; i don't care what sport it is -- i'm a bigger fan of "quiet greatness" than the Billy "White Shoes" Johnsons, the Deions, the Iversons, etc

Colo football certainly needs an improvement; they were a legit, solid program from the mid-80s through early 2000s but if they continue to post poor seasons, I still won't lose sleep over it.

Notice how all of the transfers out from Colorado, many of which are still without homes got all the press but all of his new adds haven't. In the last week or so, he has landed:

CB from Bama
CB from Florida State
DL from Ole Miss
DL from Mizzou
WR from Auburn
DL from Washington
WR from Marshall
WR from Baylor
DL from Florida State
CB from Southern Utah
OT from Liberty

And one of the DL that entered the portal withdrew.

Like 4Q said, jury will be out on whether or not he can win at this level, but if he starts getting kids drafted, he will have talent running to Boulder.

People also aren’t looking into the real reason he left JSU. HBCU’s struggle with funding. So he comes and gives JSU the National attention whether you liked it or not and they start getting money. The multiple interviews I’ve seen he hinted at certain ppl in place were misusing the money they earned. He also mentioned about playing other schools for a check. He said that these Power 6 schools basically aren’t paying enough and at first I thought it was a joke but after he broke it down he was right. For example, if Cal calls us to play them and will give us 400,000. Think of how much you are spending to travel, staying in California for however long, and all the expenses. You really only have about half of that.

When you know… You know…

All the media in college football is covering Colorado vs Colorado State this weekend. The most uninteresting game of the t25 slate.

Dude has elevated the program in 2 weeks. When you know. You know.

We're going to learn a lot about Colorado when they have to play @Oregon in a couple of weekends. So far his son has been pretty impressive at QB. Of course Big 12 defenses (TCU) aren't known to be very good and Nebraska has been struggling for years. I expect CU to obliterate CSU tomorrow.

The Pac 12 has a league record 8 teams in the top 25 on their going away tour. Perhaps if they had waited a little longer they could have gotten that TV deal they wanted lol.

I think we have learned a lot about them already in my opinion. They do play Oregon next weekend. The weekend after that, they play USC and that will be the real test. See how they handle Caleb Williams.

I’m not worried about when Colorado stumbles - his hiring has already been successful. You can’t get in the stadium for less than $200 a ticket today. They won a single game last year. Everyone doubted him. Everyone said his mantra was self-serving.

He said himself in an interview yesterday he’s about 8 “dogs” away from having something historic… Meaning, he’s got a good team this year but he needs another recruiting class or two to get it where he wants it. But you can bet all the top recruits in the country are watching what is going on in Boulder right now.

If you hated on him or were skeptical you’d better take an early L and move on quickly. Because when you know. You know.

Yep, and they're coming. For this fact alone:

I've always respected DS but have never been fan of him personally. He comes off about as arrogant as you can get (tells one locker room don't jump into the portal, then goes and tells other kids get in quick because "I'm coming"). I do enjoy his messages and what he is trying to get through to young men but please just come out and be honest; This is about Deion and nothing else. I mean, the guy goes by "Coach Prime".... I'll give credit where credit is due, he is a hell of a brand and knows how to get people talking and watching, which in 2022 is 90% of college athletics. I mean we are talking about it here aren't we? Will be interesting to see how all of this plays out.
I went back and it looks like he started getting into the whole coaching thing because of his two sons. I always thought it was odd he took the Colorado job, but I think he did it just so they could both play P5 ball, rather than FCS ball. If he's in it for his sons then I definitely have to respect that.

I feel like this is indirectly aimed at me. It's still early and I'm still skeptical, but to be clear I've never "hated him", I just think the "showing off" is a bit unnecessary. I really have no reason not to wish him well at Colorado.

Coach Sanders will obviously be able to recruit, which is by far the most of important part of coaching these days. His resume is still small, but he was unable to win the biggest HBCU game (Celebration Bowl) in two tries. It will be interesting to see how his coaching career turns out. As for this season I will be impressed if they win more than 3 PAC games, which would still be a massive improvement over last season, and 3-6 in the PAC thanks to their 3-0 start would get them to a bowl game.

Naaa it wasn’t aimed at anyone directly or indirectly. But if you think the shoe fits wear it. Prime has had a lot of people hating on him on and off this forum (mostly off - this dialogue has been pretty chill) I’ve engaged in several in person conversations since he took the job - a lot of people have this “it’s all about Prime” take on all this. I don’t think it could be further from the truth.

As you sort if eluded too - selfish in the sense that he’s created quite the platform for all of his kids. Even those that don’t play football he’s created a lot of opportunity for all of them to be successful. If looking at for your kids and creating opportunity for them is selfish then sign me up for that.

As for all the guys mantra on how he carries himself - I stand by what I said above. It’s just who he is - who he’s been his entire career. It’s not for everyone if you can’t see past it. But he’s not going to change that - it’s part of his brand and what has made him so popular as an athlete and now a coach. The dogs that he’s recruiting they associate with him - very little disconnect with his players and recruits.

And in closing - I think while there seems to be a lot of antics going on outside of the locker room, practice and game - I think once they step inside those lines is mostly business and he’s all about discipline and work ethic and all the things that matter. But you’ve got to digger deeper than gameday or the weekday ESPN shows - you ain’t going to get that. That’s the antics / promotion / self promotion aspect of things.

Agreed. And he gives all the credit to the kids and he compliments his coaching staff as well.

Do yourself a favor and watch this interview. Classic. Especially enjoyed 7:45 on. How can you not like this message in a day and age where the world got soft and we stopped telling people especially kids the truth.

Yep, it was great. If anyone has a problem with what he said, those are not people I'd ever associate with. Some of the responses on social media tell you why America is getting closer and closer to Rome every day.

I actually like Whitlock but I’m not going to read his take on Prime. I’ve seen him critical of him on Twitter and I don’t understand it. Whitlock has a history of this - he sort of panders to the majority and doesn’t take a typical viewpoint on all things African American - it seems to be who he is. He’s not going to support another “brother” just because he’s African American himself.

Which if fine - but he’s trying to put on. He’s done this on too many things for it not to look scripted or deliberate at this point, and again this is coming from someone who is a fan of both Whitlock and Prime.

It’s all click bait is the simple way to say it. And as a Christian & a Catholic about the most unchristian thing you can do is judge how how another persons represents God and religious views. So Whitlock having problems with Prime feeling like he was called to be a coach is a bit rich for me. Like - he gives credit to the Lord but he does it in a way you don’t respect?

I happen to agree with most of what he’s saying. I’m getting tired of the disrespect talk over and over again. Let’s see this next Two weeks how it plays out.
