I noticed that Calvin Schmidtke started to walk out onto the field right before the team came out towards the end of halftime, and then turned around and went back into the locker room. I then didn't see him at all on the sidelines during the second half. Anyone know if everything is OK there???

Maybe it's just a condition of the probation he's on with Miles. Maybe he wanted to support his teammates by escorting them to the field, but wasn't allowed to be on the sidelines. I'm just guessing since I doubt we'll get an answer. Do suspended players usually get to be on the sideline?

Good thought, but he was on the sidelines for the first half. I just don't want to have another Rico Stinson moment with our QB of the future. I know he screwed up, but he's got to be our guy for the next 4 years.

I wonder if he could be redshirted, no more than he's played this year??? Anyone know???

I HIGHLY doubt he could redshirt this year, he's played way to much I think.

Once he has participated, the only way to actually request a "redshirt" is if he then requests a medical hardship year - meaning he must be injured. He cannot have a traditional "redshirt" at all if he has played a down - he would need an injury. Even then, there are limits to how much of the season he could have participated in. I believe a student-athlete can play in a total of 33% of the scheduled contests (can appear in 4 games) and cannot appear in a contest beyond after 50% of the schedule (cannot appear in any of games 7-12 on the schedule) has been played to still request a medical hardship waiver. If those numbers are incorrect - they are close to what the rule is.

My personal opinion is, "We saw our present and future QB at Homecoming". Coaches made a mistake not playing him there in the 1st place, I hope they don't make a 2nd mistake by not keeping him there. He is a student, un-assuming, talented, athletic, a natural leader and he's 6'4'' tall.

Yeah, but my only problem with Roberts is that he's soooooooooooo slow. He couldn't outrun SDSU's defensive linemen! He managed the game well, but you can't teach quick...

So slow.... The kid runs like a deer, he has played in the defensive back field, returned kicks, covered punts, and every other special team.... get a clue he will get more elusive with experience.

He's slow like Manning, Romo, Farve, Marino & Elway. Do you want a QB or a RB? He's had 1 week of snaps at the college level. In the game he was getting 2-2.7 seconds not the necessary 3-3.5 for a play to develop and to make his reads. He's the ideal QB candidate at any school. He needs time to get comfortable and some help from his O Line.
Both of which will happen.

I hope you're right. He just looked slow to me. Didn't mean to piss everyone off...jeez...

It might just be that he's adjusting to the position and reading things a little slow. I don't know.

He has potential, but it will take a while. He played QB at a very small school (I think 1A or 2A in Illinois), so he hasn't faced any real competition. He is too slow to run the offense that he's being asked to run--he has decent speed, but "runs like a deer"?? Please! He will learn in time to throw the ball away when he needs to--this was the biggest reason for the 25 carries for -8 yards. The O Line needs to learn to sustain blocks, like everyone on the team--punt returns, kick returns...one hit and done rather than sustained blocking. He seems like a good kid, and he's the best we have right now, so hopefully he will continue to learn and develop, but I'm not sold on him being the long-term answer--I'd rather see him at WR or back at DB.

True. A QB must get accustomed to the speed of the game enough so the game slows down over time. I would guess quick thinking prevails over quick feet initially. A QB that develops both is that much better.
