Anybody see what happened to their kicker last night? Heard a couple references to a crazy injury, but never saw it. coach said he was in surgery during the press conference.

Weirdest thing I ever saw in a football game....

As he was approaching the ball on the kickoff, he just went down like a shot. It looked to be like he planted his leg and then sprained or twisted his knee, or had a worse knee injury. I didn't hear any updates after the game.

But as he was falling, his body hit the football, which made it live. ISU smartly picked it up and advanced it.

The only other thing that I've seen close to it was once former ISU RB Geno Howard was being introduced in pregame and ran out on the field and turned to the sidelines. As he turned, he slipped and fell on the turf and broke his ankle.

I agree w/ Tom, that was the weirdest thing I have ever seen happen at a game before. To me it looked like he stubbed his toe on the grass, fell and hit the ball on his way down, it was an awful thing to see, you could tell the kid was in some serious pain.

Very observant of the ISU player to run and pick the ball up though.

During the press conference of the SDSU players at the end their QB said something about he broke two bones and dislocated another. Don't know if that is true but that is what their QB stated.

That's crazy. Must have had an existing stress fracture or something already to break both bones. Kid was a captain for them also which isn't very common for a kicker. Hopefully he wasn't a senior.

My heart is heavy, and my prayers go out to that young man.
Unless you have really watched a kicker on film in slow motion, you have no idea how much force is exerted on the plant leg. My son goes through multiple pairs of cleats during a season due to the pressure on the cleats. The photographer for ISU actually caught pictures of my son completely blowing the side out of a cleat during the first home game.
I hope he has a speedy recovery, and hate that his career had to end so tragically.

That is so unfortunate for that young man and his family. I haven't confirmed this but I believe it was his kicking foot and NOT his plant foot which make the injury even more unique. Flew back with one of the referees who did our game and confirmed something was dislocated and said he had to walk away and couldn't watch...very unfortunate

I'd never seen that before in a game at any level--certainly have seen kicker slip on wet turf, but this was terrible looking. You could tell immediately that something bad happened. Best of luck to him in the future--just a lousy deal.
