The lighting system needs to be completely redone. Those lights there now were installed in the late 1960s. Thus, the overall cost of such a project is the factor. If you've got the money, or know anybody who does, I'm sure Ron Prettyman would be happy to speak to you.

A group relamp would probably do wonders. 1500 watt lamps only have a usable life of about 3000 burning hours, 1000 watt lamps go to 12,000 hours. The luminaires installed at MS are probably of 1 of the 2.

How about a brand new cannon to sit in one of the corners of the endzones? I like this idea to go with a new stadium, I think ISU needs to bring something like this back to the program. Have a firework show after the night games, it attracts kids and teenagers and even some adults. Just some of my opinions. I don't think we need a new scoreboard now, after we just purchased these 2 new ones.

look at Western KY Stadium

Those that went to WKU saw a really nice stadium that is would be great at ISU, perfect size really nice to watch game in with a concourse between 1st and 2nd levels.

WKU was a very nice stadium, but maybe a little too big for our needs. They had recently put in the club level with the chair back seats on the second level on the home bench side--that's an upgrade we don't need. I did like the concourse though, and it was great to watch the game from any seat.

What WKU did was simply add that "home side" and the concourse between the two sides to their stadium. Their stadium used to be one sided like ours is now. I'm not completely against the idea of simply adding something to MS. I'd love a brand new home, but if push comes to shove I'd go for something on the hill side, maybe 2k-3k chair backs for season ticket holders with a nice merchandise store and 4-5 sky boxes on top.

i think it is only 22,ooo.

yep; it's nice -- This is a good depicition of what Old Dominion started with...

they've really benefited from a larger enrollment, being in a pretty good recruiting area AND having a couple of East Coast schools (Hofstra, Northeastern) dropping their programs in ODUs first season

They hired a LONG-TIME CAA (Colonial Athl Assoc) asst coach to be head coach; are 'walking' into a good conference (though the future CAA will look different; a lot of the its Northern teams have dropped football (Hofstra, Northeastern, Rhode Island is leaving the conference -- NEC; believe UNH is mulling it's future; UMass is off to the MAC... Villanova... Big East? CAA??)

ODU; put some money on both of them being in the FCS playoffs sooner rather than later.

From the Deadbird sports site...

I like what Southern Illinois did with their new stadium--perfect size, new, close... Illinois State is planning a big rennovation to their stadium:

They are going for a new look with about 14,000 seats total, one side with chair backs. I'd be curious to see a rendering of their plan.

For the first time since 1961, when the structure was originally built, major renovations will be made to Illinois State's Hancock Stadium, as announced by ISU President Al Bowman at his annual "State of the University Address" Tuesday.

The approximate $20 million project will be paid for through a variety of funding sources.

"(Hancock Stadium) is literally the most visible front door to our campus," Bowman said. "It is the first structure most people see when arriving at Illinois State from Main Street. It is a quickly-noticed landmark that should reflect the top quality and high standards of this institution. Unfortunately, it does exactly the opposite."

Makes one think that when we finally get around to building a new stadium we're gonna need to pony up about $50-$60 million. James Madison U. just renovated their stadium and for $62 million got a beautiful facility. Perhaps they have some things in their stadium that we won't need, at least initially, but I'm thinking that we aren't going to get a truly outstanding facility for less than that range...

I hope we can make it a reality.:wordyo:

the band

i love the band but where they are now at the games is terrible.i know we dont have alot of options but where they are now you cant see or hear them.it would be like putting our new speaker system at the end of the bleachers facing north with the crowd.

This is the Berry Center Football Stadium in Houston Texas that supports all of the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD. This is an 11K seat stadium with a concourse level between the lower and upper deck. IMO this is a good model for ISU to follow except maybe add a few thousand more seats to go to 15K. The open end could be a grassy hill for general seating and the building at one end may be another building in the master plan. That could create a confined bowl feeling to contain noise. This is a beautiful stadium that is very practical and simple.

I don't expect us to get something like this, but wow...they did it right.

I am all for most of these ideas...but lets keep in mind that the foundation still hasn't reached its goal from the March On campaign of $85 Million. We have to crawl before we can walk.
