Also with M.S having passed up it's useful life in just a few years....we'll have to build something. That stadium won't pass inspection forever. If that's the case where does state funding for infrastructure fit?

Pretty sure Indiana doesn't allow for public dollars to be spent on intercollegiate athletic facilities...

maybe ISU can use it's bonding authority...

I have a feeling they're going to raise all the funds privately. Just a feeling from how conversations with Ron about paying for the stadium have gone...

* Not concerned about errosion. A seawall will take care of that...it will be an added expense but will address the issue. Flooding could become a concern at some point, however, if engineered properly, that won't be a problem either.

*Putting it closer to the river adds something to mix...from a tailgating perspective. Instead of the railcars or cabooses, now we can have party boats docked (have to dredge the river in that spot but that is easy enough).

*I am certain that if and when this all happens, they any architect/designer will utilize the river properly and allow it to be beautifully done (at least as beautiful as the Wabash River can be with its 3 foot depth and trash/dead bodies/human excrament/etc. lol)

*They are going to have to do some very serious fundraising and probably name it after someone or something that pays an annual fee or upfront amount to get this thing to happen

*I am an outdoor kind of guy...don't enjoy indoor stadiums at all, especially for college football. We have the hulman center to do indoor events....sports like football, soccer, etc. are meant to be played outside. However, I do think that the football stadium is going to have to have a multiple use concept. In other words, it has be able to host a monster truck rally probably as well as a football game...maybe I am wrong on that...but we will see.

The stadium should be named Trent Miles Stadium.

Too early.

Start with Memorial Stadium; maybe Sycamore Stadium.

IF Coach Miles passes Raetz's wins total; collects some MVFC and playoff appearances, THEN consider a coach's name

i know its way way to early to talk about naming the stadium. but i feel that there are too many memorial stadiums, i understand why they are, but i love stadiums with unique names. how about river front stadium?

I see your point on carrying the current name to the new stadium.

As a point of reference, there are 15 schools in FBS that have 'Memorial' in their football stadium name; however, of those 15 schools, only 5 stadiums are purely 'Memorial Stadium.'

Clemson Univ
Univ of Kansas
Univ of Nebraska
Univ of Illinois
Indiana Univ

In FCS, there are 7 schools that have 'Memorial' in their football stadium name; however, WE are the ONLY FCS school that plays football at MEMORIAL STADIUM. (Dartmouth plays at Memorial Field)

The other schools have football stadiums such as War Memorial Stadium; War Veterans Memorial, Alumni Memorial, Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, et, etc, etc...

I like Memorial Stadium as a name; I wouldn't mind Sycamore Stadium.

What I think/believe WILL happen; we'll end up with a stadium with a rotating name; i.e. the naming rights will rotate every 5-8 years as different companies purchase the rights. We'll also have something like Boot City Field at Coca Cola Stadium...

That's simply the position we're in; it kinda sucks, ok it DOES suck but it is what it is. Would love to see an alumnus step up and throw down enough to build it and ensure we DON"T have rotating naming rights but I don't think that will happen. I hope so but I'll remain pragmatic.

Back to the original topic...

UNC-Charlotte is starting football in 2013, and they have recently begun construction on an on-campus football stadium. From their press release:

The 15,000 seat stadium, being built so that it is expandable to 40,000 seats, will house the 49ers football program, which is set to take the field for the first time in the inaugural 2013 season.

"To be at this point, thanks to the support and hard work of so many people, is beyond words," Rose said. "Looking back, we have come an enormous distance. This project, however, has always been about looking forward. Construction of the stadium gives us an even clearer picture of what fall Saturdays will look like in 2013. All of Niner Nation is anxious to get the construction process underway and watch the stadium take shape."

The Football Stadium Complex will include the 15,000 seat stadium, a field house, and two practice fields. A 6,636 square-foot press box, complete with media seating, a university box and television and radio booths will adorn the west sideline at the concourse level. The field house includes coaches offices and meeting rooms, locker rooms and weight and training rooms as well as a 1,920 square-foot Academic Center, a 2,757 square-foot tiered classroom and a 5,947 square-foot Hospitality Deck.

The approximately 98,000 square-foot stadium field is a synthetic playing surface with inlay graphics and lines. A full length practice field and an 80-yard practice field will be set off the east entrance. The Bermuda turf sod practice fields total approximately 145,000 square feet.

Looks as though the original price tag was about $45 million. We could do something similar here...just fodder for discussion...

Initial ticket sales are tepid; the UNC-Charlotte (Charlotte) 49ers begin play in 2013... Lot of insiders believe the 49ers will be moving up to the Sunbelt ASAP...

The difference between ourselves and the 49ers... MARKETPLACE, media & fans... It's not a crutch but it will affect much of our future growth...

I was figuring it would be named (insert name of person who donates a load of money) stadium.

I would say Coach Miles would have to retire from coaching here to have it named after him. Im trying to think of a place that has named something after a coach that went elsewhere after his success?

Depending on the lottery tonight it may be named Nichols field.

I like the stadium at costal carolina for our needs, with one change. I'd think we could connect the two main sections with the endzone section to make a horse shoe style. I think it would be perfect for our needs. You can really look at the last picture, put the new fieldhouse/football building where it goes and imagine the lower section wrapped in a horse show shape. I think it would be perfect for us and put us somewhere in the 12,000-15,000 range.
