He had his first meet this season and finished with a time of 12:19.5, a 6:36 pace. The good news is that was his personal best and finished 4th on his team. The bad news is he finished 66th overall.

Tanner still hasn't grown and is getting whipped by the taller runners with longer strides -- he's 4-foot-9. It also doesn't help matters that he is young for his grade. Hopefully he will hit his growth spurt sometime soon. He hopes at least. LOL

aha how old is he again?

I think he has a couple things going for him.

1. The kids that are taller than him now are already seeing the positive effects of having good size, he has not had that benefit yet. I think he will improve when that happens, no hurry...

2. When all is said and done I don't think that being young for his age will hurt him all that much. Esp. once he get's in high school everything will start to level out. You will find that a lot of kids that are dominant in middle school really level out in high school. At least when I ran middle school cross country I was pretty good by Terre Haute standards. When I got in High School everyone caught up with me in every sport that I played. I would suggest that being middle of the pack now is going to be a blessing when he get's to high school.

3. Lastly it doesn't hurt that his daddy has access to the best cross country team in the nation! lol Ok I might have set the bar a little high, anyways you get my point. These guys are pretty good at what they do and will be glad to help you out!

He just turned 13 in the Summer. Most kids he is racing against in the 8th grade are 14 or getting very close to turning 14. In terms of his team, most of the boys around 5-foot-4 or taller. As for weight, he weights 82 lbs and is the lightest on his team there, too.

His goal is to get his mile time into the 5s, whether that be 5:59:59 or whatever. Apparently if he doe break the 6 minute mark, he gets a free "Fishers Fittest" t-shirt. LOL... simple motivation huh?

Boy was it fun being a kid... I remember when the days of getting a free t-shirt was a motivator. Boda you ought to buy the kid a tee, dang! What kind of a father are you to that kid? All he wants is to have something to wear to school!

:naughty:GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT!!! Im 4'11", finished 58th, but your right, the tall people are definatley getting ahead. Ive learned to cope with it by telling myself they are all just gigantic and im normal sized

Also, Ive been having troubles with lower legs, Im posting a topic with the details and what other people think may be happening. Any advice would be great :)
