And no one has mentioned the Rod and Gun...it isn't really in Terre Haute but close and pretty darn good.
Oh yeah, a GREAT place. With some really entertaining stories about its history...:jawdrop:

Yes...well when the Mayor back in the 60's tells the FBI, "You want to step on our toes, I'll break your knees." then it is no surprise that most of the local restaurants are no more.

and what is that Italian place across the street (well just down the street and across) from the Oberlander club. Carosi's or something like that...they have pretty good food too. I know that Royce Waltman used to eat there alot. I always enjoyed it...I assume it is still open.
That places is on point as well... I love to tell this story:
Any time Greg Oden is in town (which is quite often during the off season) he loves to go to the Rod and Gun Club. It's his favorite restaurant in town. He walks in and people always give him awkward looks (like why the hell are you here?) but he's so big they wouldn't dare say a word and best thing about it is they don't know who he is... lol It wasn't that many years ago when Black's were not allowed in the Rod and Gun Club.

Best Terre Haute eateries...with specialties...
1. Red Lobster
2. Ruby Tuesday (great salad bar)
3. Copper Bar (best "bar food" ... try the shrooms)
4. Saratoga (prime rib is AWESOME) - Beef Manhattans are very good too.
5. Moggers (food OK...great selection of beer)
6. Bally (pizza is good) - Great Sponsor of ISU Athletics, and great HD TV's with TRUE HD reception.
7. Ricks (BBQ)...not sure of the name..Rick Burchell's place down by FB Stadium - Rick's Smokehouse BBQ - another good local owner that gives back to the community.
8. Beef O'Brady's..big ISU supporters...good food
9. Marizios...more obscure pizza place, 747 feeds big group - Owned by an ISU Alum, and is a GREAT ISU supporter. I See Eric at most ISU games.
10. BW's...wings (obviously)
Imagine that, a 'private, social club' in the sticks of Indiana...
At least that's why I'm 'assuming' ...
Hard to believe the FBI was afraid of any mayor, T-H or otherwise...
I llike the new JD Steakhouse on 3rd street. It's theme is John Dillinger. Best breadsticks in town!

Yes, but how are the Steaks?! It's not JD BREADSTICKhouse is it?!?!
Zamberletti - Pretty good restaurant, just down the street from my house. I actually went their my senior year of high school as I was escorting my best friends girl friend Marybeth Boeglin (younger sister of Mel Boeglin) durring Terre Haute South Homecoming festivities! lol The good ole days! ahah
Also across the street from the Community Theater is Harry and Buds http://harryandbuds.com/ - which is only open for lunch. But if you are not in a hurry on a Saturday for a brunch around 11:00 and have an hour or more then I highly recommend this place. Very unique, but everything is made from scratch and only one guy works in the restaurant. This place used to be Rosenburgs Deli (same guy who owned that) many years ago now.
Sams Steakhouse is well below average..
I might go out and try that Harry and Buds, it sounds really nice and there is only one guy working in the restaurant?
