They were infants when he was in his prime, so I don't expect they have the same respect for him as someone older. They should be that confident though. They're young and have every right to be. I get kind of tired of it when writers act like Michael Jordan is the undisputed greatest and can't ever have his game questioned or challenged. He was great, doesn't mean future generations of basketball players have to bow to him at every turn.

Totally disagree. The fact that any high school player thinks they can take even an average NBA player in their prime is ridiculous IMO. Confidence and ego are definitely good traits to have in most hoops players... stupidity is not.

Head out to a local AAU tournament and watch a couple high level kids. I saw Shabazz Muhammed in Indy last year DOMINATE AAU ball and he struggled at UCLA against lesser athletic/talented competition. Put him one-on-one against KG or Duncan in their primes and he may score a few buckets. This sort of thinking is like those people that think the NCAA title team can beat the worst NBA team. Sorry, not going to happen.

It's the ganja probably distorting their perceptive "reality"...too bad they've never been forced to consume that low-grade Mexican brand that was mixed w/ alfalfa and floating around the ISU Campus in the early 70's! That would've brought 'em down to earth...which is probably why they called it "dirt weed.":gramps:

Here is a hypothetical.

Kobe Bryant was a rookie in 1996-1997 coming directly out of high school. In his first season, he averaged 7.6 ppg in 71 games. Despite showing glimpses occasionally, Kobe was heavily criticized for shooting air balls, often wide open, especially in the Utah playoff series. He sat behind Eddie Jones, who was never considered more than an above-average player. He's now one of the greatest to ever play the game.

In the same season, Jordan led the NBA in scoring at 29.6 ppg in his 12th season in the NBA, what some would argue past his prime. Do you think Kobe Bryant as an NBA rookie would have beaten Jordan on the downside of his career in a one-on-one contest? If the answer is no there, which I think it is, do you think he would have been able to beat him in 1990-1991, which is the midpoint of Jordan's career?

No, because Jordan was still the BETTER all-around player...Labron is another story. He would've given Jordan a match!

Not even so sure about that. LeBron three years into the NBA, yes. LeBron as a senior at SVSM, I don't think so. I watched all of his games that played on ESPN and his outside shot was really limited. He was killing less skilled HS players with his size, athleticism and even then, when they matched him squad up against other big time schools, he struggled a bit because he couldn't just waltz to the hoop. It took a couple years of working on it for it to be formidable.

As usual, kids say the stupidest things. It's one thing to have some swag if you've earned it, but to say something just so outright dumb is another thing.

It's harmless. Only harm is to Jordan's ego which bruises incredibly easy for someone so successful.
