I was talking with Jason on how to get more students on this board and I'd like to hear your ideas. There are 11,000 students at ISU and yet I can only name two current students that are active on this board. SycamoreLynch and myself. I found this site because of twitter and I really don't see why we can't get more students other than the fact they just don't know about it.

A couple of my ideas.
Make a flyer and I will print them. I have like $30 in printing money and I rarely use the school printers. I can make copies and post them around campus.
Find a way to sponsor the forest and put the sycamore pride logo or website name on the shirts.

Help me out, let's get more students on here. What ideas do you think would get students on here?

Added poll.

Student-only Posting Area

Since the core-area of Syc Pride is seemingly dominated by alums and older visitors, I sense that ISU students might feel a degree of "intimidation" with posting their thoughts. I've suggested this before - perhaps an ISU "Student Only" SEGREGATED section might encourage greater activism, yet still allowing students to post in the "overall" forum. Issues indigenous to the college student-only could be addressed here, without fear of scrutiny by the older crowd.

i mean yeah i know what you are talking about but from a students point of view i think most of the students will agree with what the alums say and i know that i enjoy reading about what is going on campus. since it is hard to find anything that is really going on unless you know the right people and being on here has helped me stay up to date with thing that are happening. I just wish that ISU was more informative on what is happening. For example does anyone know what is going on with the oil drilling? haven't heard anything about it since they started drilling

Don't get me wrong Bank....I understand what you're meaning....but to use the word "segregated" is not a good start to such an idea.

SYcamoreBlue3209 the only problem with that is i dont think we have an app for this website or a cell phone friendly version of it. so it will be kind of hard to look at down there at the seats and on top of that not many people get good service down there on there phone. Maybe something like on the jumbo tron have a little commercial about the website to let everyone know about it.

First off, I would offer to cover any printing for you if necessary.

Secondly, I'm not sure what can be done to make them more willing to come here.

I suggested in the past creating a seperate forum on here just for Forrest members - if a student signs up with The Forrest one of the benefits can be a SycamorePride Student Account that gives them access to the Forrest page on this site.

On the page you could offer special prizes, share ideas, create excitment, plan promos, etc. It would be an online meeting place for people interested in The Forrest.

I guess my thought is simple, you've got to give them a reason to come here - got to make it personal for them.

It's a great idea. I go to SycPride on my phone ALL the time. Also, there's "Tap a Talk" (which I don't use) but supposedly it makes it easier to view the site and post.

AND, it doesn't matter if student's use their phone at the game or not, it's about getting the word out to students about SycPride.

With that said, STUDENTPRIDE....thank you for being a student on this site!

TapTalk is the App friendly version of this site.

So maybe a QR code to the download On the flyer?

Not sure of any way to offer free App downloads to the first XX number of students but that might be a way to draw them in.

TapTalk accounts for about 90% of my postings.

GuardShock - attach a poll to this thread and see what the age range is of people reading this thread.

1-16
17- 23
24-35
36-50
51 plus

Something like this just to find out what the age range of folks reading this thread.

oh ok well i know most students arent going to want to pay for it if it cost anything or as long as it is really really cheap they still might buy it but i wasnt aware of the app for this site. But i like the idea of the first so many students get it for free or members of the forest get it for free or something that will help out things

i'm a recent graduate but when i joined sycamore pride i was a sophomore or junior. i can tell you that this website is 70% responsible for me becoming a "die-hard". I was always a sycamore fan from freshman year but once i found this community and realized that there were other "die-hards" that loved talking about the gossip, games, rumors, coaches, recruits etc. of sycamore athletics i fell in love.

now i will say from personal experience. it is very intimidating to start posting on this forum (and other online chat rooms in general) because there are the unwritten rules of forum etiquette that which if you don't follow, some of posters will/might personally attack and i can see that cause some shying away from future members.

but like myself can see this forum being a HUGE boost to student morale, i think once students find out that there are other sycamore fans across the country it will be the "cool" thing to do.

I believe Tapatalk is now a completely free program. I believe they went to a free setup when they started selling personalized apps to sites for $39/month so if you never downloaded Tapatalk because of the cost on your mobile, check again to see if it is free.

So first off WOW. Thanks for the comments. SSOM you've got some great ideas. Sorry for those other students that are on here that I did not acknowledge. I just did not know of others at the time. I agree with becoming a Forest member you should get an immediate access to a Forest section on this page. A student section would be very cool too. I feel like it would take a little while to catch on but it very well could. SSOM I will go ahead and attach the poll, although I feel like we just had a similar poll a few months ago. Maybe it was over the summer, I don't remember exactly.

As far as printing off a paper, what if we printed off a paper and put it in like 100-150 student seats. Maybe it would be a good idea to put them all over but that would get expensive quick.

TREEMAN I agree completely, I was a die hard at first but then when I found this site it made me aware of so much more and it's a nice way to keep up to date with, well everything sycamore related.

I'll try and get a poll up in just a few.

Do we have anyone with some spare time that can try and make a flyer? Doesn't have to be much but if we try hard enough we can get this going for the game this weekend!! Only a few more chances for home games this year.

BTW, I have no problems adding a student-only forum. Only way to verify if someone was, in fact, a student though was to make sure they signed up with their campus email address. We'd have no other means of verification.

You could kind of go by an honors system and have a check box in the settings that asks when you're a student and when you graduate. Maybe let it give you a year after you graduate before you didn't have access to it anymore?

I can moderate it too. I don't graduate until May of 2015.

I just graduated last Spring, so the number of students might be a little lower now. I still catch myself thinking I'm a college student. Old habits die hard.

As far as what to do to encourage activity by that group here on the site, it's about knowing it's here to begin with. I originally heard about the Sycamore Hoops forum when I was a Freshman and that was from DK in the basketball band. I just happened to Google it one night and this site popped up along with it. I clicked on the link and have been a member ever since.

I don't trust some of the alumni here going with an honor system. I created a subforum -- check your PMs.
