Oh kids make mistakes... Made some when I was an athlete at State. Let's be clear, this isn't real good news in the season - heck never is. But everyone makes mistakes.

On another note Todd Gurley (UGA rb) and I am a pretty big fan of him was out running this morning after one of the singles greatest performances in a season opener ever. Saw this on Twitter and reason I mention it is because that is the level of Dedication we need!

Two underage college kids buying (or trying to buy) alcohol?

Yawn.

(yeah yeah yeah, they're collegiate athletes, etc....but this script has been overplayed)

Agree... I mean I'd rather they not do this in season. I think this can often lead to greater problems no doubt.

But they were not doing drugs. They didn't false ID - they owned it and they will likely pay for it.

The end. SycamorePride members will take shots at them. Ho hum.

Shots? Should we roll out they sympathy cards? I too was an athlete at State. Never once drank during season. I know a few dudes who did and when they got busted I said the same thing then.. You let your team down. I certainly hope they learn from the experience as I agree all people make them, but it doesn't change then fact that it was dumb.

Agree on all accounts. Just don't want to be overly dramatic about it. It's going to happen, it happens to all teams at Indiana State - you hear about the basketball and football players... The other sports, ya all don't hear about those kids mistakes.

Thats the only point I'm trying to make. But like you said, lets not pat them on the back for this!

Yeah, I've never understood drinking during the season. If you're trying to be in peak physical shape for your games, the last thing you want is to throw some alcohol into the mix. Hell, back when we were in school our tricycle derby riders didn't drink during the month and a half leading up to the race. Definitely disappointing as that shows some just aren't dedicated to the game.

You have the entire rest of the year to drink.

My point is rules are rules, laws are laws. I'm getting tired of seeing laws, rules be questioned after they get broke . I'm fired up more about the NFL and marijuana stuff. My point is you knew the laws and repercussions. Is a 20 year old drinking the end of the world? No way, but it's the law. I've personally seen the slippery slope of marijuana as a gateway drug and it's effects on families soy sympathy is a bit shallow

Sorry for the soapbox but no sympathy for athletes who know the rules and choose to not follow. Scholarships ate not a right

Agree. Especially after last season, and the need to prove some things this year. These are guys that have been with the program 3-4 years, and it does show a lack of dedication, and a bad example for the 1st year guys. I would think the players would be spent after the IU game, and get their rest heading into the home opener. Players, please take this season seriously, and save the late nights for the post-season.

I agree with most of the above in particular "DUMB, hurts team, this whole deal is "CHICKEN SHIT". It continually amazes me that we live in a college football morality play where alleged sexual assault occurs and the accused is a Heisman Trophy candidate at a football powerhouse and the outcome is the local sheriff does a good old boy investigation, dismisses the charge and the alleged sexual assaulter goes on to win the Heisman Trophy and lead his team to the national championship and millions of dollars for Seminole nation.
Here in East central Indiana/middle America an underage player allegedly attempts to buy beer and it becomes the lead TV news story of the day. If these kids were starters at FBS major schools they would have been trained "in the football program" to say nothing to authorities and call their position coach who would in turn call the prominent local attorney/alum who would "handle it"out of sight of the community.

Coming from a retired arbitrator: Let the families get counsel and allow legal due process to play out. Once the court decision is made, then the senior leadership Council of the football team, with the advice and consent of the head coach/athletic director determine and carry out the punishment if punishment is indicated. I think this would be reasonable, legal and fair to all community interests including but not limited to the accused players, their families, the football program, ISU itself and Sycamore nation.

i'm not concerned about the underage drinking or drinking in general with the story. I'm willing to bet that every college football team has multiple athletes taking part in it or something similar, its something that you just aren't going to get rid of in the college atmosphere. What I am concerned about is the reckless driving that got them pulled over to begin with. I don't believe for a second that they were under any influences because that would have obviously been reported. But to drive reckless is just total disregard to your own safety and especially the safety of those around you.

This x1000.

Since they weren't tired following the game, maybe the staff can give them some extra conditioning.

I didn't think ticketed = arrested.

Is the story title a lie?

It's just poor reporting by a TV news station. They tend to struggle to get details right. Sounds like they were ticketed, not arrested. Pretty minor offenses compared to what some kids have gotten in trouble for. The reigning Heisman trophy winner has faced allegations of sexual assault and shop lifting but he's still playing.

Thanks for changing the title, Jason. To be clear, I was referring to the title of the "news" story. Of course we know that the "news" industry is all about sensationalism and protecting liberal values. We don't even get the news about all of Obama's scandals. If you are a woman or black, democrat President, it's hands off policy.

The Saturday Night Live writers were asked why they don't make fun of Obama and they said there's nothing to make fun of.

(oops, I shouldn't say that -- just had to rant about our "news" "journalists." )

He sat out a baseball game last season--stern punishment?! I'm so tired of reading stories in the paper about drugs, sexual assault... that get swept away. This is a comparatively minor deal, but still reckless driving and an alcohol charge. Disappointing, yes. Although not sexual assault that leads to a suicide like that prestigious university to the north.
