Tyler Cutter has been released from his scholarship at Indiana State. He will transfer to play closer to home next season.

Who will this scholarship go to? Jake Kelly?
Was he forced out? We have seen this before?

Forced Out?

How much playing time did he get during the MVC season? His minutes declined because he couldn't keep pace with the backcourt thoroughbreds. He had plenty of time to think this over, rarely seeing ANY action late in the season.

Schollies are year to year, not four (4) years as many think. In a program such as ISU, you've gotta look out for #1, but do it in a tactful manner. We've been stuck with too many unproductive 4-yr. players during the latter Waltman Era, and it's gotta stop. The earlier, the better for all parties.

I think Tyler saw the writing on the wall. He just wasn't able to handle D-I PG duties. Yeah, he's only a freshman, but PG is about the most important person on the floor in our system, and we don't have two more years to wait. Plus, Odum coming in only pushed Tyler down another spot on the depth chart. All that, plus not a sniff of playing time during the end of season winning streak, and it didn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out...

Sad, but the reality of college basketball. Tyler seemed like a great kid, and I hope he can find a place closer to home that will better utilize his skills. Nothing wrong with wanting to go home, right?

Sad to see him leave ISU but hope he continues his career. From the looks of things he won't be the only player leaving though.

Ahhh yes the underlying message! Very well done.. Ha

Yeah rumors have been all over the place for the last several weeks. None of which I intend to post. Due to lack of credibility... I guess we will see if anything else happens. I never heard anything about Cutter leaving until it actually happened. Not that it surprises me or anything like that.

There was an article in the Tribstar yesterday about Jake Odum being awarded a scholarship. This is probably where his scholarship came from? Hopefully they have something to offer to Kelly if his is interested. This is the business of collegiate athletics. It's amazing how many people don't know that athletic scholarships are a year-to-year thing, and that what was given last year can be taken away this year. The one positive is that this was done right after the season, so he can explore other options. The football players haven't been renewed yet, and have been told it will happen during the spring--this is kind of bogus in my mind.

Jake Odum is getting the scholarship that was once held by Rico Stinsion from my understanding. That scholarship was committed to Rico before the start of this season. That scholarship was vacant for the entire season. My guess is now that Cutter has left their is still 1 more scholarship left.

Winner....Winner....Chicken Dinner!!!

I am not at all disrespecting Cutter, but I think it was pretty obvious he isn't in the future of the Sycamores. With Harry, Rashad, Eitel, and Odum all being on the team next year it seems Cutter would be behind all of them. Best of luck to Cutter in the future. He seems like a good kid, just not the right fit at ISU.

I am not sure what other players would be leaving the program, but I really like the team for next season. Marshall, Reed, Printy, Richard. Provide a solid nucleus to work around. I don't think the postseason (NCAA or NIT) is out of the question!!

He "should have" looked beyond next year. He could have redshirted (if given that option). You are over estimating Eitel to a large degree, I think.

Cutter could redshirt, but I just don't think he is really cut out for D 1 basketball. Eitel is not going to come in right away and play, but I think he has better potential than Cutter because of his size.

Move everyone down that you think is going to play right away and make room for Jake Kelly. Whether or not you all like this kid is going to end up at Indiana State. Granted he is going to have to red shirt his first year here. But after that he will still have 2 seasons left at Indiana State. At that point you can talk about NIT/NCAA possibilities. This things is going to happen.

next year

I guess we won't really know if it was enitrely Cutter's decision, or the coaching staff's. Either way, I think things have a way of working themselves out. Logjam for PT next year at the guard spot with returning players Marshall, Reed, Printy and Carter, then add Odum to the mix. Plus, let's not forget Dwayne Lathan. Rumor has it his skill set is the best on the team. Either way, it will be interesting to see. Only problem, not really a problem yet, I see is that Cutter was a McKenna recruit. Let's hope he is not sending the quick hook vibe to future recruits. That being said, I too believe that postseason is a very real possibility next year.:sycamores:

Now, my memory isn't what it used to be, but I don't think the staff dodged the question of whose idea it was for players to leave last year. Therefore, I think we should take them at their word. If they say the Cutter asked to be released, I believe it. I really believe they would have lived up to it if they cut him.

Just my two cents...

there are 4 post season tournaments now for NCAA teams, if you have a winning record you can about count on post season play anymore.

One of the posts above mentioned the redshirt transfer Lathan. Don't forget about him..............he is a player and will command some time next season!

Check out this article on the enormous difference in $$$ between the NCAA and NIT tournaments. It becomes quite obvious why the big boys don't want us little guys in the NCAA. One team getting one game in the NCAA tournament is worth about $1.5 million, whereas Creighton's take the last time they played in the NIT was about $9,600. Yeah, I typed that right - $9,600.

Personally, I'd take any postseason about now, although I'd obviously like to see us back in the Dance - WHERE WE BELONG!!!!

That's two years in a row that a freshman PG has left the team. Not very encouraging really. I hope the local prospects live up to all of the hype we've seen here.
