10827 - Wichita State - 12 games, 129,922 attendees
5976 - Bradley - 12 games, 71,710 attendees
5711 - Indiana State - 8 games, 45,691 attendees
5178 - Missouri State - 11 games, 56,956 attendees
4962 - Illinois State - 10 games, 49,616 attendees
4830 - Southern Illinois - 9 games, 43,472 attendees
4764 - Northern Iowa - 7 games, 33,347 attendees
4345 - Evansville - 12 games, 52,137 attendees
3646 - Drake - 9 games, 32,818 attendees
1650 - Loyola - 10 games, 16,500 attendees

So us and UNI were the non-con road warriors. Interesting to see Bradley had 12 home games. Would like to see our financial numbers of having additional home games vs. guarantees for going on the road.

Before seeing this, I can't help but wonder how many here would have thought that ISU has the 3rd highest home attendance average in the Valley. I'm surprised. If we posted numbers like Evansville, Drake and Loyola some of us would need to see a cardiologist. I'm not including record or any other variable--just talking about tickets sold.

SP, that's what I was commenting about the other day. Our attendance is nothing to be ashamed of. There are 30-40 schools that draw huge numbers year after year but there are a lot of programs that struggle to get 5,000 a game. With ANY promotion at all, that number could be up 1K or more but it seems that they are complacent with the numbers. We're 9 days from the Wichita State game (the BIGGEST game of the year as I see it) and has ANYONE heard of any type of promo yet? Anything?

As I said earlier, they likely will "create" a black-out or something along the way between now and then but what's wrong with some kind of "Pack the House" promo, or 2 for 1 in the upper deck, or Justin Bieber night (just kidding). Last year there were no corporate buyouts as in years past and the AD's office essentially "trashed" the Out-of-Towner's game so we are left with wearing black or something similar to "motivate" people to come to the games. Wow, that's creative isn't it? Ah yes, the frustration continues.

I was watching #11 Oklahoma State on Saturday afternoon playing West Virginia. On national TV, for pity sake. Gallagher-Iba Arena was at least 1/3, maybe (probably) more, empty. FOR THE #11 TEAM IN THE COUNTRY!!! Against a Big 12 rival.

We ain't the only team that can't fill its arena...

Isn't this WV's 1st yr. in conference play? Doubt if much "rivalry" exists, given the geography & prior non-association between the two schools. It's just one of the false presumptions that conferences had when the "raids" began, thinking that "rivalry" was an automatic.

i witnessed the OSU and WV game and it was PITIFUL for a team that is in the "elite" category this season, it wasn't the first time i tuned in for a OSU game and the attendance was terrible. really outside of the BSC or big east conferences there is only a handful of programs with outstanding attendance and one of them is in our conference. the magic numbers for us about 6,500-7,000; some years it could get up to 8,000 and some years drop down to 5,500. but if you have 6,500 that you can count on that is a sign of a stable program this day and age.

Turn ESPN on Monday night @ 9 PM if you wanna see a true conference "rivalry"...OK St. v. OK.

Here's OK State's '13-14 attendance:

ATTENDANCE SUMMARY GAMES TOTALS AVG/GAME
HOME.................... 10 98533 9853
AWAY.................... 4 47146 11786
NEUTRAL................. 5 24324 4865
TOTAL................... 19 170003 8948

Iba-Gallagher Arena seats 13,611.

http://www.okstate.com/facilities/gallagher-iba.html

Comparatively, their home games look much like ISU's. If ISU was avg. 6,500/gm, HC would be 65% capacity. OSU's 9,853/gm in a 13,600 arena would be near 73% capacity.

missouri state's average attendace per game is 4618 against teams not named wichita state. That game drew 10,776 fans.

look for indiana state's average to increase due to their next game also being against the shockers. too bad the hulman center wont be hosting 10k+ to fatten up the average attendance.

Will be interesting to see how Arch Madness attendance looks in the absence of the Jayz, the largest contributor of all MVC schools since inception in '92. Anyone heard how ticket sales are going?

I saw that Wichita hoped to top over 4k in all session passes.

Said it before and I will say it again, when Southern Illinois gets rolling, they will make up for Creighton leaving. People forget how many Saluki fans showed up in St. Louis when they were winning.

People are making way too big of a deal about Creighton leaving, as if the Scottrade Center will be crickets because the mighty bluejays have left. Arch Madness will roll along just fine.

Well, I wouldn't hold your breath THIS season for a Saluki "roll," and I still question the ability of the rest of the MVC to compensate for the loss of the large Omaha following. We'll see, won't we? You clearly overlook the comparative dynamics of Omaha v. Carbondump. Furthermore, if GEOGRAPHY were a sole factor, you'd have thought that Belmont & Murray State would've outweighed Loyola in the "Arch Madness" formula on a YEARLY basis. Of course, the MVC wanted that "Chicago market." Was there even an article in the Chicago Tribune following the ISU @ Loyola game, where blue was the prominent color among the 1,200 in attendance?

Actually yes, the Chicago Tribune did cover the game.

I am not overlooking anything, not even "looking", I am just pointing out that people forget how many Southern Illinois fans attended when they weren't in the cellar. They brought a lot of people. True, you won't see it this year, but if Hinson can get them rolling again, you will see a huge increase in Saluki fans.

Arch Madness will be fine without Creighton. I will have just as much fun this year as I did the last time I was there when Creighton was still a part of the league. Maybe there will be fewer fans, maybe there will be more, I don't know and I don't care. Arch Madness will still be a good time.

Just snagged this off of twitter, might offer some factual clarification on where sales are right now
http://blogs.pjstar.com/pressrow/?p=2836

I think the Headline of that Article should have been....."MVC Tournament Sales lag due to the large number of Bad Teams in the conference this Year"......low tickets sales have nothing to do with Creighton.....it's because their are about 9 teams who have little to no chance of winning it...and nobody wants to go over to St Louis and watch their bad teams play........if this were a tournament where, let's say 8 teams had a realistic chance of winning, you would have a lot better ticket sales.........again, it has nothing to do with Creighton......very misleading article......

You are probably correct - last years ticket sales set a record - but by comparison to previous years sales are pretty good.

The reason it is misleading is because last year Creighton fans knew A) they had a good chance of winning and B) they knew this was the last year they would be playing in Arch Madness. Both drove the demand for tickets. Notice how it says that ticket sales are above 2011 and 2012 levels, but just not as strong as 2013 (which was the record). So basically what you can take from the article is that pre-sale tickets are selling very well.

Talk about making a story out of nothing. They basically try to make it sound like the sales are way down all because mighty Creighton left, and oh by the way buried in the article is the little nugget of how sales are better than 2011 and 2012, with still six weeks to go until the tournament starts.

Love when the media hype a story.

You can also look at the 2013 Arch Madness as another inevitable matchup between Creighton & Wichita State, which undoubtedly fertilized ticket sales from the two largest fan bases in the MVC.

26% drop isn't as bad as I anticipated. It'll be interesting to see how many tickets ISU sales if we secure the #1 or #2 seed and like Creighton last year, are put in the opposite bracket of the Shox. BTW, Omaha is 435 mi from St Louis...TH 170 mi.
