If any fans from other schools stumble across this site I figured for those fans coming in town for the weekend I'd highlight some of the top restaurants / bars / entertainment in your down time. Nothing you probably can't find yourself on Yelp or Google - but we're a friendly bunch here at SycamorePride and glad to have fans in town for the baseball Regional!

Dinner/Drinks/No Rush/No Budget:

Bar Basco - https://myalimentari.com/

If you like homemade Italian food, great wine selection, really awesome bar and custom drinks - look no further! Only downside is you really need to make a reservation early in the week as they draw a huge crowd. If you get lucky and walk-in at 5:00ish you can probably get a couple seats at the bar. Otherwise, you might have a hard time getting in. Woodfired pizzas are incredibly tasty. Must be 21 to enter.

Sushi Umi - https://www.umigrillsushibar.com/
If you are a Sushi person then you have to make time to have lunch or dinner at Umi. I'd recommend it for lunch as it's much easier to get a seat at lunch - like Basco above if you want a table at dinner you need to call a couple days in advance! Be sure to hit up yelp, instagram or ask your server as most of the really good rolls are not on the menu!! "Private Selection" of sushi rolls if you will. My personal order would be Dynamite Shrimp as App, Spicy Kim, Fried Rice, Half Dr. Singh, Wolf Roll and Verve Roll because why the hell not!

JFords Black Angus - http://www.jfordsblackangus.com/
Easily the best steak in town located minutes from the stadium in downtown Terre Haute... But your going to pay big city prices! Everything on the menu is really good - you can't go wrong! Personally a fan of the Lobster Bisque but with temperatures this weekend soup might not sound that great. They have great specials / great wine / great drinks. Reservation recommended - but you might get lucky if you just drop in with a small group of 2 or 4.

Stables - https://www.stablessteakhouse.com/
Having Stables 4th on this list is really no slight to Stables as it's pretty awesome! Just a mile or so outside of downtown Terre Haute a Cool environment - great food at a slightly lower price point than Fords... Again, this is one where you typically need a reservation days in advance if your starting to notice a theme here - people in Terre Haute and surrounding cities love to eat out. Also seafood bisque here is fire - hey I love a good soup.

Piloni's - https://pilonis.com/
It's on the north side of town not far from the baseball stadium - given that I live on the far south side of town admittedly I rarely eat at Pilioni's. Why drive past 4 or 5 good restaurants to get to another good restaurant? But they really have great Italian food - at a slightly better price point than everyone else on this list. I rarely eat from the menu and typically always eat whatever they have on special for the night because you can't go wrong.

Bar Scene/TV's/Drinks/Hamburgers

Charlies - http://www.thecharliespubandgrub.com/

It's a Terre Haute staple... Neighborhood bar a bit off the beaten path. The various "Tweety" Burgers are all fantastic! About every Friday and Saturday they will have a packed house with outdoor live music. If you can't get a seat outside they have plenty of seating inside. As the night goes on it can get pretty wild so if your not into a loud bar scene then I'd recommend it for lunch. It's also not a place to be in a hurry of a weekend or night - they just draw a huge crowd. Must be 21 to enter.

Terminal -
This is the newest hot spot located in downtown! Same owners as Charlies - slightly higher price point and more fancy menu, much better specialty bar drinks and they just overall did an incredible job on the renovation. Again, you want to eat at Terminal you really need to either get lucky on your timing or have a reservation - they're always packed but you won't be disappointed.

Sonka - https://www.sonkairishpub.com/
Don't sleep on this Irish Pub located just a few miles outside of downtown on Wabash Ave. Great beer selection. Great atmosphere - love the outdoor patio seating. I'd highly recommend the cod fish / cod fish sandwich... Typing it out just makes me want to go have it for lunch today! Must be 21 to enter - so if you have kids with you I'd recommend Terminal.

Copper Bar - https://www.thecopperbar.com/
If I was looking for a place downtown to go watch a game or grab a late night drink it would be Copper Bar for sure. If I was looking to eat food as well - I'd probably avoid it at all together. They make a decent bar pizza and have good fried mushrooms but that's all I can really recommend. If it's crowded downstairs they have more seating up stairs and it's a little more spacious. Must be 21 to enter.

Moggers - https://www.moggers-restaurant.com/
This one sort of gets overlooked with so many other great choices ahead of it... But it's got really good bar food, about the most historic restaurant/building in Terre Haute. Fried mushrooms and flatbread style pizzas are pretty good. Decent beer selection. Don't need to be 21 to enter. Usually has some seating available but can get crowded on the weekends. If you go to Moggers or Stables for dinner it's worth walking across the street and checking out Terre Haute Brewing Company! Make sure your packing heat though - not the nicest part of town!

Breakfast/Coffee:

Federal Coffee

Downtown Terre Haute literally the Crossroads of America! Pretty new and just a cool little corner coffee shop. Food and pastries are all really good! I actually prefer the iced tea at Federal over the coffee. Just a nice relaxing place to sit inside or outside and enjoy the start to a new day.

Square Donut
Another Terre Haute staple! If you like donuts (who doesn't) then you need to stop in Square Donuts for breakfast... If you have to wait in a big line it's worth it. Located in downtown Terre Haute on Wabash Ave. it's dangerous location for me because my office is right next door and the temptation is real.

Java Haute
Sort of out of the way unless you're staying at a hotel out east I suppose. It's probably the best coffee in town and I typically have it once or twice a week. Food/pastries leave a lot to be desired and drive-thru can be pretty darn slow.

Loose Goose
Located on south 7th street so if you're staying at any of the hotels off i70 and 3rd street this location is close and a local alternative to the woke Starbucks... Loose Goose has good coffee and a killer bagel with dill pickle cream cheese. Trust me on this one!

Maggie and Moe's
This coffee shop is located in a really neat house on the east side of town. Located next to Dobbs and Deming Park for scenic walk after your coffee. They have a really underrated breakfast menu as well.

Pizza/Beer

Greeks

Located downtown Terre Haute... I could knock them for being a Muncie, IN / Ball State pizza joint but I won't since my wife graduate from BSU. But they've got really good pizza, breadsticks are awesome and salads are surprisingly good. If you like a sweeter flavored pizza then you will love Greeks.

Wise Pies
Local favorite for several years now also located downtown. New York thinner crust style pizza and if you're not feeling a full sized pizza they sell pizza by the slice so that's a good option for some. It's one of my favorite places to eat pizza for sure! Solid endorsement below from @sycamore_21 who resides in a hell of a pizza city himself in Chicago!

Scouts
I've only had it a couple times and it's alright... A little pricy for me! But its a neat option downtown and they're connected to The Verve so you can get really good beer/drinks which is a +. If I was craving pizza of an evening this would be the best bar/pizza setting hands down. Verve turns rather clubby late night so you can catch some live music and some pizza munchies if your into that sort of thing.

Bally Pizza King
I mean this is really more about the Bally and it's history as the lone party bar on campus! The pizza is meh - but if your going to the Bally your not here for a long time your here for a good time!

Maurizio's
See major endorsement below from @IndyTreeFan It's good don't get me wrong but it's not my top choice!

Don’t forget to stop at the Grand Traverse Pie Company right off 3rd and get desert. It is only about a mile or so from the field so you will probably drive right past it. Great selection of pies and deserts. Can’t go wrong.

FYI - they have soups, sandwiches etc as well. But are probably more known for deserts.

So glad you posted this! I did forget about it - very good!

Lunch Spots

Grand Travers Pie Company

They've got a pretty good breakfast menu as well - but it's defiantly a poplar lunch spot! Think... McAllister's deli. Located right on 3rd street just a mile or so from the stadium. See endorsement above from @Bluethunder

Taco Tequila
Downtown Terre Haute is basically like all 45 other Mexican restaurant's in the Terre Haute area other than this one is really just the cleanest and nicest in the area. It's not the closest one to the stadium as you can walk right across 3rd street and basically have the same meal right next to the gas station - but it's not going to leave you with the best impression of Terre Haute dining.

Royal Mandarin
If you're just randomly craving Chinee's Food then just drive to Meadow's Shopping Center and get yourself some Royal Mandarin. No other place in town compares... Also on Saturday's the Farmers Market in Terre Haute will be going on in the Meadows parking lot - it usually draws a pretty big crowd.

Ricks BBQ
I'm a pretty big fan of Rick's! I'm not like a huge fan of BBQ while traveling so I don't know how it stacks up to KC BBQ or anything like that so if your like a big BBQ person don't @ me. But give me a brisket sandwich, side of hashbrown casserole, a pickle and a drink for $14. I am in! Just a few minute drive down Wabash Ave.

Brewery/Winery

Afterburner

This is the newest brewer just down the road to the south of TH Brewing Co. They've got a nice indoor/outdoor seating area - little smaller operation and selection than TH Brewing Company - but probably a more personal mom and pop welcoming sort of vibe you get from the people running it.

Terre Haute Brewing Company
A lot of really cool history for this one! They've got a pretty good selection of beers - they've done a really neat job partnering with Indiana State and labeling a beer to be sold at games. The brewer it's self is a pretty relaxing space to grab a cold beverage or two. Afterburner is within walking distance so I'd suggest stopping at both.

Water Tower Estates
Owned and Operated by a Sycamore alum Tyler Woodward who literally grew up just a couple houses down from me. Not a far drive down 1st street from the stadium. Really nice outdoor seating area - typically have live music on the weekends. They create a custom bottle every year for the ISU Foundation/Alumni Association and donate proceeds back to Indiana State. They also have a new location on Wabash Ave. really close to Sonka for those familiar with the area.

Sycamore Winery
Located in the Oho Building! Fun fact, hosted my wedding reception here when it was run by the original owners of the building under the previous name. If you like wine and a really awesome and well done building you can't beat this location downtown Terre Haute.

Cackleberries
Long time Terre Haute breakfast hot spot - 5ish minutes from the stadium. @LukeMartinISU endorsement below has to count for something... I typically go for an omelet but they have a rather expansive menu of about anything and everything you could imagine.

My advice for all of the visiting fans is to stay as far away from Terre Haute as possible. I want us to have as much of a home field advantage as we can get.

Parks/Entertainment:

Griffin Bike Park -
If you like mountain biking then you have to check out this place! Probably some of the best mountain bike trails in the Midwest. My hunting lease backs up to the property so for selfish reasons I'm not a huge fan of all the traffic it attracts but for the sake of Terre Haute pretty awesome

The Mill - https://www.themillterrehaute.com/s...MI68Kb-NKd_wIVj0ZyCh3g5gfWEAAYASAAEgILmfD_BwE you can catch Vanilla Ice and the Beach Boys concerts this weekend. Pretty neat venue for those that haven't been. They've got really big plans for the future as well. Just a few miles down 1st street from the baseball field.

Larry Bird Museum - Not opened yet but I am sure it will be a must-see attraction for basketball fans in general. Located downtown.

Larry Bird Statue - I always see photos circulating on social media of fans taking a picture in front of the iconic LB33 statue with the Hulman Center in the background.

Terre Haute Children's Museum - If you've got young kids this is a great Children's Museum. I feel like Terre Haute is pretty lucky to have a facility of this quality given our size. I feel like cities of similar size don't have anything comparable to what we have here. Don't fact check me because I could be wrong.

Veteran's Memorial Museum - Just outside of downtown on Wabash Ave. the history packed into this museum is quite amazing! Hours seem to vary quite a bit - but if they are open I highly recommend it. You can get through the entire thing in 30-45 mins.

CANDALS Holocaust Museum - On 3rd street just a couple miles from the baseball stadium. This is a must see if you ask me! What they've done with the facility over the years, the history, the education - pretty fortunate to have something like this in our community.

Vigo County Historical Museum - My aunt actually runs this facility which is pretty cool and it's located right next to my office! But this is one of the newer and most expansive museum in Terre Haute. Really cool! If you're one of those "I went to Wiley..." or "I went to Garfield..." you know who you are - then you can thank me later!

Indiana Track & Field Hall of Fame - Located out east in the Welcome Center building one of the lesser talked about more hidden gem attractions. Being a Track guy I find it all really interesting but if you're not a fan of the sport I could see why it wouldn't be that interesting to some. I think the fact that Terre Haute is home to perhaps the most famous Cross Country course (LaVern Gibson) in the nation that the Hall of Fame was sort of housed here by default.

Swope Art Museum - If art is your thing then this is the place for you! 3 floors of a very expansive "collection" is what they call it when your in the art world! I use to serve on the board of directors for a short period of time and then I got busy with other things... Like blogging on Sycamore Pride so I had to resign.

Folwer Park - One of the more peaceful and scenic parks in Terre Haute. A really great camping park during the summer months. The fishing sucks - but it offers some pretty views.

Ruble Park - This is one of those I shouldn't tell you about... It's newly opened so a lot of people don't know about it! The many miles of walking trails, mature timber, hills, bridges, wildlife located in southern Vigo Co. on the old Pfizer property. Easily the best walking trails in the area just don't tell anyone because your hard pressed to run into anyone using them they have so many miles of trails.

Terre Haute Action Track - I mean it's one of the most famous dirt tracks in the country! I haven't spent much time here the last several years just too much else going on in life I guess. But as a kid I spent a lot of time going to the races here and as my kids get older I hope to get back into the habit of going.

A Piloni's Addendum: Piloni's now has a restaurant in Brazil, located 15 miles east of TH on US40. It is called "Piloni's Italian Steakhouse" and its emphasis is defined by its name. Elegant steak dishes for about $37, quite scrumptious veal, chicken, and seafood past dishes in the low $20's plus several 'half order' pasta options for around $12.
Various nightly specials such as Ossa Buco for low $40's. Full wine list across a spectrum of prices. It is extremely well decorated as well.

Again, quite busy, so try to have a reservation. They sort of frown on reservations for 4 or fewer later in the dinner hours, so bring a group of 6 or more or show up early in the evening.

Btw, have you met my nephew who's contracted w/ Vigo Parks & Rec and built a few trails @ Griffin? Now working on a USI trail in E-ville.

I don’t think I ever met him Bank. I always deal with Adam Grossman and I’ve had several interactions over the years with the Griffin Family. I worked on a few trails early on myself and have biked it a few dozen times. I’m not like an avid mountain biker so it’s not my jam. But place is so very well done… People come from all over to ride it!

Yeah thanks for pointing that out and reminding me for that matter! Been meaning to try it out - don’t get to Brazil very often and if I’m headed in that direction for food hard pressed not to drive the extra 20 mins or so to Greencastle and eat at Bridges.
