Harry Schroeder’s perspective...

Lansing's PR machine is working overtime again. None of this guys business and only his opinion about GL leaving on April Fool's Day - Not a joke. Lansing thinks he needs a lot more $$$ ...... Lansing is trying to pressure the AD to keep him and pulling out all stops to get press support and WHY ..... he is in an underpaid, low budget program with lots of folks in favor of helping him on down the road. Go elsewhere and get it GL if you think you are in demand.

Harry Schroeder’s perspective...

Harry Schroeder's resume: .... apparently he doesn't remember the Sycamore showing in the last last 1/2 dozen games at ArchMadness? He needs to stick with country music and Missouri Baptist football & basketball.

Harry Schroeder

Harry Schroeder has been known as “the radio voice of the Valley” for broadcasting the Missouri Valley Conference’s men’s basketball tournament for 12 seasons in a row. He has also been the lead play-by-play voice of Missouri Baptist University football and basketball, and has been known as one of the lead high school sports broadcasters in the St. Louis Metro area. Harry covers the MVC for MidMajorMadness.com. Harry is a former CMA Award Winner (Country Music Association) where he earned the nick-name “Father Harry” for his way of guiding the Cornbread Morning Show back from the brink of insanity with his biblically based views and wisdom

kind of like it's only YOUR opinion for Lansing to be dismissed

looking forward to a "hoopsfan"-free forum in the future

Harry Schroeder runs the website "Valleyhoopsinsider". It's a great site that covers MVC and OVC basketball. You won't hear me saying anything bad about Harry. He had a bracketologist on one of the pages talking about Drake, Loyola, and Belmont. Sounds like if they all win out in the regular season and don't lose on the first day of their respective conference tournament they should all have a good shot at an at-large bid.

No, Lansing has said the program needs to be funded properly and he's right. Proper funding allows him to pay his assistant coaches more, it allows him to buy more home games, it allows him and staff to do more recruiting, it allows for better accommodations for the players, it allows them to have better/addition gear, so on and so forth.

To try and frame this as just Lansing wanting more money is really disingenuous.

It might have been in that article above or maybe somewhere else that Lansing was hoping for a 2 year extension and more money for the program after last season. He didn't want more money for himself, he wanted more for the program.

I said after last season that Lansing should either get bought out or get an extension. Who knows what the effects of this lame duck season will be, but it has to be hard to recruit when your own worthless AD is sabotaging your job.

Well, we're going to find out.

All-time? How about Kurt Kanaskie, Steve Merfeld, Ray Giacoltti, Ron Greene, Tates Locke, Dave Schellhase, Sam Weaver...heck maybe even even Royce Waltman statistically when you include his last six years....
The who? Kanaskie, Merfield, Giacilitti? Here's the bottom line, if Lansing looses both games in Valpo, and looses the first round game in Arch Madness, he will end up with 165 LOSSES. Waltman, the ALL TIME career LOSS LEADER at ISU finished with 164 career LOSSES. Spin that, however you want.

I could spend a lot of time addressing this article, but I'll just write to one take-away.

Reference that fellow coaches Respect him Far and Wide topic, which then isn't supported in any ranking category by the fellow coaches.

That ranking poll should include, Lansing is probably the worse MVC road coach of all-time, and if home teams are struggling; playing a Lansing coached team in the last eleven years, is almost a guaranteed home win.

We will quickly see Lansing's road savviness as we play a weak 8-15 Valpo team in Valpo on February 26th and 27th. I would love to see us WIN BOTH games especially since Arch Madness quickly follows the Valpo series. What a way to enter the tournament with two ROAD WINS; but as the author of the article states, Lansing SHOULD.....

I expect "Gotta Hav" is one who has gotta hav data about road performance to justify the statement that Lansing is the WORST MVC road coach in history. Probably has it somewhere; however, I am unable to find that data.

I broke the "Lansing Era" up into two five year periods since we all acknowledge his first five years were better, then a slump and then a comeback in the last two years so basically the last five years would be four mediocre/bad seasons and last season while the first five should be better. 2020-21 data are omitted.

Lansing is whoring himself to all comers with his public relations "how great I am" push. What he is also doing is trying to make the AD look bad for even considering to let him go. If I am the AD I can't wait to show him the door. April Fools Day can't come soon enough. Might have to can him before to shut his face. His buyout is pretty cheap right now!

Lansing is 48-88 (.358) overall in true road games; 33-64 (.340) in MVC games

Royce Waltman: 134-164 (.450) overall, 69-111 (.383), 1 MVC title, 1 Conference Tourney, aka ArchMadness title
Greg Lansing: 179-162 (.525) overall, 101-95 (.515), 1 Conference Tourney, aka ArchMadness title

Waltman avg'd a 13.4-16.4 overall record and a 6.9-11.1 Valley record
Lansing has avg'd 16.3-14.7 overall record and 9.2-8.6 Valley record

No spin required

I am not sure what point if any, the following data make. First, let me write that I liked Royce Waltman.

I routinely went to his coach's show on Saturday mornings at the Clabber Girl bake shop. No media, just coaches and fans. A real discussion about what to look for in the games coming up. Video that illustrated what other teams were trying to do and what to look for in the ISU defense as it tried to stop them. It was a great way to prepare oneself to watch the games.

It was truly unfortunate that Royce got sick and could not do in-person scouting for a few years. He had a keen eye for talent, but for a while, he had to rely only on the evaluations of his coaching staff. As Dennis Raetz used to say after another 5-6 season, "There is a fine line between a reason and an excuse."

Anyway, I thought I would look at the records of ISU's Valley opponents since the beginning of Waltman era. The MVC ROSE as a league during the tail end of the Waltman era. Illness and a stronger league and unfortunate injuries combined to reduce his record. The Valley had success: two teams in the Sweet 16; multiple bids every year and a snubbed MSU program year after year.

05-06.....................13-16..................................6.............Add Bradley. ISU starts 8-0. Loses David Moss and loses 11 straight. Gets Moss back and goes 4-4 against
extremely strong competition
06-07....................13-18...................................5............Drop WSU. Common expectation Waltman is out. Strong start to season but collapse in last 15 games.

So it seems majority of people are in agreement that Lansings track record in The Lou the last handful of seasons has been terrible. And many think his performance this year will determine his job going forward whether it’s fair or not. So my question is what is better for Greg Lansing; lose a heartbreaker/competitive game in the 4/5 matchup to go 0-1 in St. Louis. Or win the first game and get the doors blown off by 15+ in the second game to go 1-1.

Just trying to spark some conversation about a very likely possibility. Personally I think Lansing should be retained regardless at this point, but I almost think it would leave a better taste in people’s mouths if our final game in STL is a close one (hopefully it’s a win of course).
Lansing needs to go... [REMOVED] and year after year we see player after player not getting better year 4 vs yr 1..bobby knight as virtual coach would be quite the upgrade...

Has anyone seen how the women's team has done under Clinkscales' hand picked coach? They are just completely pathetic it appears. In the MVC they are 1-8 so far this season, 3-15 last season, and 5-13 the season before that. Do you all really want this clown picking our next men's coach?
They're terrible this year...........and last year........Yes, I agree the Athletic Directore needs to be replaced.

Edited your post. No need for the personal attack.

Argue on the merits of his coaching and player development and that alone.
