We go on the road and every team gets nice hometown calls. We come back to Hulman and it never feels like we get any. I could literally count 5-7 things tonight that should have been called, not been called or called differently to benefit Wichita State. Some were so blatant and in front of the officials I don't understand how they miss it.

For example, late in the 2nd half there was a play where Justin Gant was heading to the top of the key to set the high screen and was just flat out shoved in the back and went flying. The play happened by the ball and all three refs had eyes on the play. No whistle.

Once, just ONCE I'd love to see us the beneficiary of calls in our own building.

The only thing I could figure is that being undefeated earns you a lot of breaks. I would bitch more about it if we didn't miss so many shots down the stretch. From early in the second half through near the end of the game though the calls went WSU's way. It's not that they got more, it's that when they got them, they were three point plays and momentum shifters.

Example: Early in the second, Moore gets fouled and makes his shot. Refs wave off the basket and we get it out of bounds and get no points on that possession. Shockers come down court, get a bucket and a questionable foul, make the FT, that's a six point swing.

Yeah, I'm not saying that is the reason we lost at all. Even with the bad calls, we had every opportunity to win and lost because of our missed shots, FTs and defensive lapses down the stretch. I was just posing the question because it seems to be an issue every game.

I just got done watching the game and the Shockers definitely got the benefit of he doubt down low. They called a couple on Kitch that were really cheap.

At this point in the season, most officials who have worked multiple games against the same teams know who they think fouls and who they think doesn't. I think Kitch is one of those guys that officials talk about as a foul prone guy and he never gets the benefit of the doubt. Now, officials would never admit that, but they walk into games with opinions about who reaches, who slaps at the ball, etc.

If you remember Jarod Adler, that kid could foul out faster than any player I have ever seen. I was always convinced that there must be some book out there on him that says "watch him closely, he fouls". That poor kid would pick up a foul for bumping into the scorers table too hard before checking in.

I said it within about the first four minutes last night that we were in trouble because they were letting wsu play very physical. As soon as it became obvious that Van Fleet would still get to use his forearm and that players falling on the court wasn't going to be a big deal, I knew we were in trouble.

Not the reason why we lost, but still frustrating. I wonder if during the tournament WSU will run into trouble for this. We all noticed that last year Dougie was clearly protected by the league in games, but then when they played in the tournament I think he fouled out in their loss. I could see the same thing happening with the shockers. Although they are a better team that Creighton was last year and don't depend on one player like the jays do, I could see them getting into a sweet 16 game and all of a sudden, Van Fleet gets called for that arm and picks up two quick fouls or they don't let them play physical and the shockers run into trouble. Guess we will see.

And I wouldn't have had an issue with it except we didn't get the same courtesy. Shockers aside, it feels like it is that way for every home game.

Good teams most always get the calls. Last night there were two good teams on the floor but one was "good er" than the other if for no reason than their ranking, undefeated status and media hype. Has always been this way and always will be.

I don't know what game everyone else watched, but the game I watched in the HC last night, looked like homer city to me.

Several times, Gant was over the back, if he wasn't.... someone else on our team was, I lost count how me times WE touched the ball last...only to have the referees, award the ball to us!!!

Well it's going to take David Hall - lead offical last night, not calling an 8pm game in Terre Haute, IN one night and then a game in Arizona (vs. Oregon) in the Pac Ten the next freaking night all the way across the country.

No wonder he thought Early was getting fouled on every play. If Hall wasn't misrable for both teams I'd have more of a bitch.

As it turns out - all that travel the odds of him being sober were low. It's perfectly normal for the Sycamores to "sleep walk", didn't realize David Hall was working under the same amount of stress.

Editors note: the only thing worse than Hall, is that Bill Walton is the analist for this game. He's mentioned that it's Bob Marley's BDay twice now... Odds of him being sober, also low.

Get w/ the times, Dawg..."Jamaican me crazy." Guess you've not noticed the 2014 dreads sweeping America. Walton & Marley are early 70's icons:

My thoughts are we need to be more consistent at attacking the basket, we have shot well, and that has lulled us sometimes into mainly a perimeter game. This will get us more calls IMO

I'd much rather see a "physical game" than one w/ "ticky tack" calls in match ups involving BIG TIME players...it's called "incidental contact," and good officials integrate the concept into their officiating style. Gant, Kitch, Moore & Arop are fully capable of playing this type of game, although NOT accustomed to it because of ISU's schedule. If Game 3 occurs between the Shox & Trees in St. Louis, expect the same. Fans come to the game to see 'em play, not sit on the bench w/ foul trouble.

Now with this said...I think the and-1 calls on Early drives were weak compared to what was not called on our end....but I am proud of this team and the players.....but lets avoid a let down Sunday.

Similar to Bird's image once he was acknowledged on the NATIONAL scene, there's an inherent officiating "halo" that accompanies such status. It occurs at ALL LEVELS of play, and is based on EXPECTATIONS and prior performance. It's an EARNED perception granted to few. Dougie @ Creighton is a good example.

I would say some would argue Odum got those calls before...but I don't recall many of those this year at all

It seemed the players were intimated, making outlandish moves and shots to avoid WSU defenders. On a missed bunny by Gant, his eyes were cleary on the defender and not the bucket. I suggest they watch Ted Kitchell films at IU. He became an All American, standing at the foul line, nearly always imitating contact on his shot, never called for an offensive foul. I believe the players need to attack the defender, not shy away. Why even attack the basket if you have to create an outlandish shot, they are seldom made, and the defense wins, my two cents

The only one who got to the rim and got calls vs. Wichita was Cummings.

Teams are not fouling Odum on dribble drive - they have wised up on him and they r not going to let him and 1 them to death.

Arop also tried dribble drive and didn't manage to get any calls.

JG was active around the rim and same result.

In theory I agree, but the only one who got a call of any kind was Cummings.

I actually think Odum is experiencing an officiating "psychological backlash" because of his 3 yr. benefit from these calls. It's as if they're telling him, "You're a 5th yr. senior now and should be able to handle the INCIDENTAL contact." He was protected as a "pup," but he's long past that stage of development.

not to mention opposing coaches who been working over the officials the past three years saying, "don't bail this kid out....he's the one initiating the contact".....
