The Captain Level
Anyone know what's being done to promote our NATIONALLY TELEVISED game this Sunday night? I hear its a white out from the announcer last night...and that's all I got.

There needs to be a HUGE promotional push to not only fill the upper level seats, but to be sure those lower level seats that are sold get occupied somehow.

If we want any more national home games, we have to show we can fill the place. 6 or 7 thousand won't be enough. The place needs to be packed, loud, and crazy or this will be our last nationally televised game for the next twenty years. Trust me.

Any ideas? We need to get this going NOW. Todd Golden, Rick Semmler...we need you!

Tweet, Facebook, write, broadcast....anything less than 9,000 on Sunday night will be an absolute failure.

An unprecedented effort needs to be made on campus to ensure a huge turnout by students. Anything fewer than the 2000 who showed for the Black Out game last year is unacceptable.

Let's do this! This isn't something ISU can afford to screw up. Do we want perspective recruits, their coaches, and families to see a half full arena at Indiana State when most of our Valley counterparts pack the house?

Just can't afford to screw this up....

Good luck. I tried this during football season. I still have lumps on my head from beating it against a brick wall. I'm sure there'll be something on Facebook and a flyer on a bulletin board somewhere on campus. That'll do, donkey, that'll do...

Get the notice out on campus and hope some more students attend. Another win Friday will help. That said, don't expect 4,000-5,000 new fans to suddenly show up. Be happy if you can get 7,000.

The crowd Sunday will put a face on our program for the nation. For 99% of people watching, it'll be the first time they've ever seen ISU play at home. What impression do the University and the Athletic Department want to leave a national audience?

That will be answered in the coming days and on Sunday night. The team could win the game Sunday night, but we as "Indiana State" LOSE if the place isn't packed, loud, and rocking for a national audience.

There's no sugarcoating it.

Can't be. I've seen 8-9000 at specific home games over the last few years for Sycamore teams much less talented and successful for games not even televised but promoted. The community will show with the right promotion and urgency. That's a fact.

This is too huge to make excuses.

At the beginning of the season, ESPN-U televised a Butler game from Hinkle and there were around 7,000 people there. Did the less-than-soldout house affect their recruiting? We're they mocked on the air because it was 70% full? Did the Star criticize them for a lackluster crowd? I don't think so. Useing a word like "total failure" is a bit strong when it comes to our perception on national TV if we are not totally full.

I totally understand why we should strive to get as many people at HC as possible and hopefully we will have an even larger crowd than the 6,800 we had last night. Should the athletic department rally the troops to up the attendance? Hell yes. Of course they should, but I think saying that it would hurt recruiting if we only had 7,000 is a bit of an exageration. Our attendance figures are definitely up so far and I was pleasantly surprised to see the numbers last night. Hopefully some promoting will happen, similar to the black-out last year which was effective in bringing in more students for the game. If the announcers referred to a "whiteout" for Sunday's game, then I can imagine something is being done about it and posters and other promo ideas are in the works. I know where Indy Tree Fan is coming from when it comes to a hurdling a stone wall at times to get them to assist in promotions.

We all know that marketing is not a strong part of the AD's office but they also need to be given credit for the attendance numbers being up by double figure increases. We all would love to see HC filled to the gills and hopefully if this team puts a string of wins together, we'll continually rise from last night's figures. We'll see how effective they are in getting the word out for this "white out". In the meantime, it is a great idea to get all of us out there promoting this game thru our personal ways to communicate, i.e. Facebook, Twitter etc. I just think telling all of us that it would be a total failure if we had only 7,000 might be a little strong.

You want it to look good for TV.

10 min. prior to TipOff, open up the lower bowl. If you're not in your seat... it's available. PERIOD

Pack the lower bowl, most TV camera's won't stray away from the action enough to show the Orange/Yellow Section.

Come on State.... Open it up for those who actually want to be there!!!

In reality, last night's crowd was a little tainted. The Vigo County schools offered 2,500 free tickets to students who had perfect attendance in the first semester. They didn't say how many took advantage, but it seemed like a lot. So it's not like there was a sudden increase in interest among the area citizens. Still made for a better atmosphere. If only we could get that many paying customers..................... It's probably too late now to come up with some new gimmick for Sunday; maybe we should have saved that promotion for Wichita.

Come on, folks, I know that being even slightly negative is a no-no on this board now, but let's call a spade a spade. The effort needs to be made to fill the place. Period. That effort is usually sorely lacking. If folks cannot see the importance of making a great impression on an ESPN network, then - well, I don't know.

And don't compare what LoyalAlum said about a half empty arena hurting recruiting to Butler. As much as I love them (cough), they've been to two National Championship games in the last two years. They get a pass on this one.

We have no such pass...

Butler has gone to the title game twice in two years and gets tons of national recognition. They've made their impression. We haven't. They say you don't get a second chance to make a first impression. This will be the first impression most of the state and country will have of our home games. They don't know of our recent struggle with attendance or that it's up a bit this year. They see empty seats and apathetic fans or a packed house and raucous atmosphere. That's it. We had 6,800 last night and there were plenty of empty seats in the lower bowl. I'd call 7,000 on Sunday a failure. Absolutely.

I do wish they would release the lower bowl seats at a designated time in the first half but we all know that will not happen. Having those seats filled would make a HUGE difference in the appearance on TV. Hopefully a house full of white shirts would also look very good on the tube as well. When Penn State does it, it always looks impressive. It is a shame that so many ticket holders in the lower bowl are "no shows" because most of them are sold as we all know. The only way to stop that is to play consistently and WIN consistently. Make it the happening thing to do in TH. We are heading in the right direction but obviously, we have a lot of work to do.

If you want to see a place where "negativity" isn't allowed...check out the Bradley board. We rarely edit posts around here...

Agreed. They've known about this for months now. NO EXCUSES.

There were posters in the Varsity Club talking about it... We will see how much more I hear about it. I'm sure it will be in the statesman... but I'll keep my eyes/ears open..

I don't know if you paid any attention but nearly all those students given free tickets brought two paying parents !! Great promo ! :)

Thank you Bill! Those parents still had to co e to the game free ticket or not. Many of those folks bought drinks and popcorn - generating revenue. Let's keep a positive a positive and move on, I'd rather not find the negative in every positive - drives me nuts!
