when it comes to the university's support of the football program, that's a good question. could there be some snakes in the grass, spouting discontent and laying low for the right opportunity to spring up and take a bite out of someone? inquiring minds want to know.

we've been hearing some disquieting rumors from SEVERAL sources over the last week or so. now let's see if the rabblerousers are brave enough to speak openly instead of working behind the scenes.

i sincerely hope that i have bad information.

I suppose we can let this story develop on it's own but frankly, I think these rumors are hogwash. Dr. Bradley has supported football since day one and in fact the first time I met him, that was the first question out of my mouth. He told me then, has told me later, and has spoken consistently in public, that he wants the program to remain at Indiana State. I am sure there are some nay-sayers out there but I don't think there is ANY momentum in that train of thought. I am not privey to anything you are talking about nor have I heard any rumors about dropping football, but I will take Dr. B at his word. I DO think I would like to see more money go to the program and I think the funding needs a major upgrade from the University but beyond that, I feel comfortable with the program staying put.

Feel free to enlighten us on what you are talking about, TJ~

I have not heard lately any issues butplease enlighten me if there are new issues. I agree that from what I have heard the president's office and AD's office are fully behind the program. I hope this remains the fact.

nice grenade toss...

c'mon TJ --- you can't toss a grenande like this into the forum and walk away; move it to the 'supporting member' section if necessary.

Dr Bradley and RP have both went on the record to state their support for the continuation of NCAA Div 1-FCS SCHOLARSHIP football.

Are all of the trustees on board? No idea-
The entire Alumni Association Board? No clue-
Otherw within the community and University administration? Again, No idea-

Would love to hear more of what you're hearing

I will just throw in that I am sure that a great deal of staff and administrators have voiced their negative opinions about football throughout campsu Over 100 people lost their jobs this year, there has esssentially been a hiring freeze on the campus for a few years now, over 100 employees have or are retiring and will not be replaced. It has been tough in many areas of campus over the past 2-3 years, economy being the biggest factor in this, but other factors exist as well.

Look at it this way, when a person is working in a part of the ISU campus that is getting cut, and then cut again (budgetarily) and then is forced to cut their employees because their is no money to pay their employees, yet they see all this money being spent on athletics, football especially, I understand that some off-hand comments will be made. Many within the ISU community think that football is a poor investment.

I do not think that it is and STRONGLY beleive that it will pay dividends down the road. But, look at it from the perspective of a person that worked at ISU for the past 10 years and just lost their job or look at it from an administrative point of view, you just had to tell 4 people in your office that you have worked with for the past 5-10 years that they no longer have jobs. You are going to find something to "blame" and football is an easy target.

I don't agree and actually see football as a "rallying point" for the staff, students, administrators, etc. But, I am sure that all of you can see where a great deal of negativity comes from...and probably where these "grumblings" come from and are directed, they are coming from disgruntled staff and administrators that want to find something to "blame" the recent economic issues within the campus on...football is a prime candidate.

if it is different from what we were discussing then I am willing to bet some kind of Ego/mine is bigger than yours is going on....

Boda, if it is different, maybe TJ could clear this up, as several have requested him to do. The problem with that theory is that he is getting married this weekend and likely he has found "other" things to occupy his time instead of writing threads on Sycamore Pride. I took the bait that he was talking about football and that was based on his comments on here as well as recent contributions on his Facebook Football site. The danger in dangling something like that out there is that too many people easily can jump on the wrong thought. If he wasn't talking about football, then blame it on me but I have to look above here to see what he originally wrote and I am pretty sure something "football" was inferred.

Football is going nowhere. Nothing is being dropped. Funding issues are not going away however and I am pretty sure of that too. I DO believe that answers to funding may be forthcoming and may improve over time. I have no REAL knowledge as to what might be done, but I am hearing from people close in that things are improving and I will leave it at that.

Hopefully, sometime between now and when he cuts the cake, he can bop back on here and explain what the hell he is thinking. Because he is getting married....I think we should give him a pass~

Agree, I received a notice within the last day or so of a campaign to raise significant dollars for football. With that significant of a campaign forthcoming I can't imagine anything bad coming to the program.

Exactly. Which is WHY I don't understand what he is talking about. If anything big was in the works, I have plenty of contacts that would let me know what is going on and I am hearing NOTHING. Maybe it is just the pre-wedding jitters.

Do not hold me to this (please) but I believe I have heard that without a money game (like an IU, Purdue, Cincy or Penn State, which bring in 200-500K) the number is in excess of 1M. It may even be that much WITH a big money game. Anyone else out there heard that number over the years?

Yea I thought I saw an article in the IndyStar that said it was like 1.5 million but can't quite remember. So now you see why people want to ax football?

Syc28, It is obvious why SOME people want to ax football but this likely would not even be a conversation if the program hadn't suffered as long as it has. Things can change. Things WILL change. Because of the scholarships involved in pure numbers alone, MOST schools lose money in football. We are not the only one, believe me. I think the majority on this site believe in Sycamore Football. I sure as hell do. I know that our athletic department and our administration believe in the sport and it will take more than some nay-sayers to change that. Collectively, we need to make our thoughts known on the subject. Obviously we can all make a statement by supporting the TREES on Sept 04 against St. Joe~

Yeah I am gonna go out on a limb and say other sports arent quite rolling in the dough either. so why point the finger in a situation where there is no right? Because everyone wants to complain to mommy that they aren't getting the new toys because Jimmy gets them...Fact is, we need a football team and once things head in the right direction as they are now...we are going to look back on this and say, "why the hell did we ever even think that?" There's a very famous quote from a very famous coach who you can go ahead and guess who it is, "I realized a long time ago there's very little difference between winning and losing a football game but, Losing you can learn from, winning you can't." I would expect our team is going to show a vast improvement this year...Also I would like to add that the controversy of cutting the program probably wont help the product on the field lol...It does put alot of pressure on these guys to hear from teachers, students and staff that we should cut the program...god knows I couldn't throw a slant knowing if it gets picked off my english teacher will say, "SHUT IT DOWN" from the stands...

Well said~

Oh don't get me wrong I love watchin Sycamore football and I don't think they should get rid of football either. If that day ever comes then ISU wouldn't ever be the same.
