The Odum Level
Anyone else following the World Cup? That miracle goal from Portugal tonight was so heartbreaking. Seems like it's that way every time for US soccer. So close and then ... Now we have to at least draw Germany Thursday which will not be easy.

Defense let the team down. Prevent defense, yes, but in a prevent nobody should get behind the defense right? And Portugal's first goal--wow bad miscue. And how does Bradley not score with no goalie near the net? Jone's goal was sick though! Have to do the impossible against Germany.

Following?? Ish.

I watch then USA and that is it.

Any sport that can end in a tie is really a waste of my time. I played soccer until high school but I've never cared for the game much since then.

The amount of flopping and injury faking that goes on is enough for me to not really care at all for the outcome of any game.

How true with the flopping--it needs to be regulated. The worst I saw was in the World Cup 4 years ago, when a player (not sure which team) was on the ground for about 5 minutes, started being carried off on a stretcher, then miraculously jumped off the stretcher and tried to reenter the game (or "match" I guess). Some falls are probably legitimate, but I'd guess maybe about 80% are complete BS.

Not sure how anyone who watched last night's game could call it dull or boring. Throw in a personal interest in the US playing and that was a thrilling game. From the Howard save, to the Jones' bending goal, to the gut wrenching final cross from Portugal. I'm not a big soccer proponent. I watch some Premier League and MLS games but like a baseball game, I rarely watch the whole thing from start to finish. When it comes to the World Cup though and a thrilling game like the one last night, I can't see how anyone can pass it off as not interesting or worth the time to watch.

As for draws, in a World Cup they're just as important as a win or loss, right there with goal differential. That draw last night for the US was about as disappointing as a loss.
