Mike Sanzere having a rough go of it here in the second half at Iowa vs. Michigan State. The crowd has been on this crew and Mike himself has struggle to make the correct call most of the game - he's pretty much just guessing at this point.

For those that don't know Mike - here you go, http://statsheet.com/mcb/referees/mike-sanzere

One of the worst in college hoops.

I mean 1 point game and he's calling touch fouls at the 3 point line in the big ten with under 50 seconds to play.

It's 61 all for a reason, it's a physical league let them play you bum!

Iowa goes 12 mins without a FG and shoots 43 FT in this game and Fran Mcaf is the one with a Tech.

I'm starting to question the NCAA perimeter "point of emphasis" this season, as it's INCONSISTENTLY called and a weak resolution to preventing contact by rapidly moving BIG MEN. They should also remove that damn semi-oval circle under the basket, as it's a "homer tool." Officials are generally focused on upper body contact, not foot location! If a guy's got the balz to hold his ground against a 6'9" 260 lb uncaged bull, more power to him, regardless of LOCATION. Whatever happened to "incidental" contact? The bigger the boyz, the greater the "contact!":poke: Let men be men.

I've never been a fan of Sanzere.

I've never liked that block/charge arc.

I think the drastic shift in emphasis by the NCAA has led to so much inconsistency. As an official, it's hard to completely change how you call a game. When everyone is adjusting at the same time it can get interesting.

This foul calling inconsistency played a big part in the Trees loss to SLU. The A-10 officials, widely regarded as the worst for a major conference, allowed that game to become a free-for-all. Hand checking, arm-barring, etc. were ignored. Cruise teaches this kind of defense and the A-10 allows it, so you can't really blame SLU, but it was apparent (I was at the game) the our Trees had adjusted to the "new" foul calling and were really whacked around in that game. That and fact that the Billikins played their best ball of the season in the second half of that game led to that lopsided score.

That doesn't surprise me. Our game there was really physical as well and it took a bit to adjust. I know Marshall made a comment afterward that he's fine if the game is called that way, but it'd be nice to have some consistency so he and the guys knew how they were expected to play. I would have thought by now it'd be getting better though as officials have had a couple of months but who knows. This will have a giant spotlight on it come tournament time though. Could be interesting.

But the one that works the Valley that I dislike the most is Zelton Steed. He always seems over his head and/or completely incompetent.
