'12 IL PG Fred Van Vleet (Wichita State Verbal)

WANTED: Passionate Sycamore Fanatics. That You?

Register NOW to join our community of die-hard Sycamore fans.

If anyone is interested in seeing some footage of Fred, here is one of his better games of the season. Unfortunately it came against the high school I attended as he just abused us. If anything the video are good for a laugh because the commentary and entire broadcast is done by high school students

Fast forward to about the 20 minute mark of the video to get the start of the game:

It's too bad I couldn't find footage of the first meeting between the 2 teams where he had 37 pts...he only has 24 in this one

Fred has his team one game away from the elite 8 and they play tonight with a chance to go down state

Apparently they are playing an extremely similar team to their own so this could be his time to really shine

I will have some numbers for you guys as soon as I know

no real news to report but Lansing did mention that they are definitely aware of him and thanked me for the extra info that I passed on to him regarding Fred...I'm assuming they are just a bit busy right now to be doing much recruiting

Fred's Rockford Auburn Knights terrific run came up one game short of the elite 8 tonight as they simply ran into a better team. It's tough to beat a team at any level when they shoot 65% in the first half let alone a high school team. They did keep it close throughout including cutting it to 3 late in the game. The other team was just deeper and more talented.

Fred was held to 9 but had a hand nearly every other point his team scored with several outstanding passes for easy buckets tonight as well as his usual sticky defense. That's one of the great things about his game is that if he's not scoring, he's still controlling the game in other ways whether it's setting up people on the offensive end or guarding the other teams best player.

Next up is a busy AAU season and hopefully Coach Lansing starts to take some notice.

March On!

Class of 2012 Rockford Auburn star Fred Van Vleet of Pryme Tyme has now picked up a scholarship offer from Wichita State University of the Missouri Valley Conference.

Van Vleet is the top-ranked point guard prospect in the Illinois Class of 2012. This past season, Van Vleet led Rockford Auburn all the way to the IHSA Class 4A Northern Illinois SuperSectional.

Van Vleet is getting closer to being ready to make a decision. “I’m getting closer. I’m still debating on the timing, but definitely narrowing my list now. The process is definitely taking a toll,” said Van Vleet who mentions Kent State, Northern Illinois, Colorado State, Wichita State and Missouri State as being the schools active in his recruitment currently.

Dana Ford is the lead recruiter for Van Vleet.

Van Vleet and Pryme Tyme will be competing this weekend at the ChicagoHoops.com Memorial Day Classic in Merrillville, Indiana.

I don't either and the kid is my freaking cousin! lol
I've tried and tried and even contacted coach Lansing but I guess we must be happy with our PG situation for the time being. I thoght it would be a great situation to have him come in as a Freshman as Odum and McWhorter would be Juniors by that time. 2 great kids to learn from but oh well. I'll definitely find it weird if he's playing for another MVC team and cheering against him when he plays ISU. As long as he plays great and we win...I'm good with it! lol

Pretty sure we have offered 2012 point guards...

Probably have. They need to be someone they think can come in and help pretty quickly or a combo guard I would think.

I don't think they are going to offer every PG in the midwest. I don't know why people get on here and question why we didn't recruit so-and-so. You have to choose SOME to recruit and you can't recruit everybody.

exactly........................don't have room for everyone's uncle's nephew; no matter how good or how good someone else thinks they are.

It's not "how good someone thinks he is"

it's how good he actually is and the kid is ridiculous even if he is my cousin. His game speaks for itself and the fact that he's the #3 player in Illinois for 2012 should have opened a few eyes. All I said all along was that he would look real nice in blue and white. However, he could step in right now and play even though he wouldn't absolutely have to with our guard situation. He's a total floor leader who wouldn't disrupt anything. Player of the year in one of the state's best conferences as a junior and dominates top talent all over the country on his AAU team. Top notch defender, high IQ, team player, great passer and most of all a winner. Just not sure why you wouldn't want him on your team no matter the situation and not sure where the negativity came from. I'd honestly like to see him light us up if he goes to another MVC team...as long as we get the W. :D

I wasn't questioning his ability or you recommending him. I was addressing the comment that we should be recruiting him hard. That's simply nonsense. We can only recruit a given number "hard." That is limited by time and money and a lot of players will tell us they are not interested. I guess I take issue with the word "should." And when someone says they wonder why we aren't, well, there's lots of reasons. Maybe we are recruiting SOMEONE ELSE.

Since that was aimed at me, tell me who exactly we are recruiting at PG that looks better? I'm certainly no coach, but isn't a discussion forum for discussion?

Lansing and Co. haven't made many mistakes, that's for sure. But this kid seems far above any other PG that we know about here. Just my opinion, but it's as valid as yours or anyone else's...

We have 3 openings left for next year. Why do you think we are recruiting a PG?
