WANTED: Passionate Sycamore Fanatics. That You?

Register NOW to join our community of die-hard Sycamore fans.

If you're trying to play semantics, sure.

Being disingenuous when you know damn well there is nowhere near the expense between the two is nothing short of moronic.

FCS football is 63 scholarships and has a total headcount that runs in excess of 100 players. Matching for Title IX compounds that nearly double when you have to match female opportunities. Baseball is 11.7 scholarships with a max headcount of 39 players. Then toss in game day and operational expense and it's just not comparable but keep reaching for the stars, buddy.
You can't have it both ways. You hate ISU football so you preach that those monies are being taken away from basketball. You love ISU baseball so you don't care that those monies are being taken from basketball. I'll bet you're a Joe Biden Supporter because you make as much sense as he does.

5 times as much is spent on football than baseball. These are not equal comparisons. Baseball isn’t taking from Basketball because there’s not much spent on Baseball to begin with.

Nobody on this board is willing to admit that every single athletic program at ISU, including men's basketball, is not profitable. The good thing is that ISU doesn't have to make a profit from them. They are a state-owned public university that offers athletics, not a corporation where stock holders demand a profit. If students want to attend ISU they have no choice but to pay the athletic fee in their tuition, and that's the case at almost every school that has sports. If ISU ever dropped football they would more than likely just spend whatever extra money they had on something that wasn't related to athletics and overall the students still wouldn't see their rates drop a penny.

Personally I'm an ISU fan and buy tickets to football (season tix for FB), men's basketball, and baseball. What I get sick of is coming on this board and borderline getting treated like I'm not a true ISU fan because I support ISU football or that I don't want to piss away my hard earned money on NIL for a school I don't hold a degree from. If it wasn't for athletics I'd have as much to do with ISU as I do with Rose Hulman or St Mary of the Woods which is nada.

I am willing to admit every athletic program is going to operate in the red. But that's not the point. With your attitude we might as well spend 10mil on football "hell we ain't going to make money anyways, let's just waste more"

Football is just a horrible ROI, and know we arent speaking about money. We are talking about missed opportunities for basketball and baseball. We are talking about losing out on sell out crowds in Hulman. We are talking about alumni engagement, donations, merchandise sales, pride, hotel sales, downtown money spent, being in position if shit hits the fan with MVC realignment,

Football gives us nothing. And isn't capable of giving us anything playing at the FCS level in a decapitated stadium. Hell not building a stadium might have been the best thing ISU has ever done. Now we aren't stuck with a newish stadium like SIU, Illinois State, etc.

Why are you all arguing the football debate in the thread made for valley news? There is a useless thread somewhere on SP already for this. Until the new AD is here and the new President show their cards on where they stand, this conversations is MEANINGLESS.

I don't hate Indiana State football. I had season tickets for years. I bought merch and programs and gave a ton of it away to members here. I held tailgates where everyone was welcome to come eat and drink for free. I was very supportive of the program for a long time, even when we were going 1-10. So you're categorization that I hate football is on par with your comprehension for most of this discussion.

Speaking of comprehension, your last line is pretty choice because you don't even grasp that it is your support for football that is akin to being a Biden supporter. You know, since it is largely liberals that support fiscally unsustainable social welfare programs.

The entire ISU athletics department is a big welfare system as far as I'm concerned. My stance is that if ISU is going to have sports then at least have the two sports that several thousand people will actually show up to watch. In theory they can either spend $15-16M to have men's basketball or they can spend $19M ($9.5M each) to have both men's basketball and football. And let's not play games here; ISU wouldn't even have most of their other sports programs if they weren't required to by the NCAA / Title IX.

It is taking away from basketball because attendance doesn't cover the costs.

I think you mean delapidated stadium. The stadium doesn't have a head so it can't be decapidated. Also, what is the ROI for baseball. The only time we have several thousand people at the games is during tournament. I would also like to know what the ROI for basketball is when we are giving thousands of free tickets for game.

Sponsors paid for those tickets so we still got the money.

Baseball averaged 1,159 in attendance which isn’t bad for college baseball not in the SEC. Crowds were near 2,000 the last 2-3 home series. Baseball also only awards 11.7 scholarships for the WHOLE team

I know what you are talking about 96. When I would talk football and try to defend the fact that EVERY FCS team loses money including North Dakota State, I was chastised with a ton of cheap shots and personal attacks. Especially from 4QTR.

1. Pretty much everyone would be willing to admit athletics isn’t profitable. It isn’t profitable at damn near any school. Good argument.

2. I’d argue you aren’t a real fan by your own logic. I’ve seen you go at people for rooting for a different football team during the season, but your bio says you’re a fan of EIU. So by your own logic, you aren’t a real fan i guess. Lol

3. You’ve made it very clear you won’t support NIL. We get it, I promise.

1) Glad you agree.

2) You knowingly keep taking my comments out of context. I went after someone that supports another school's program that loudly does not support ISU's program. I enjoy watching D1 mid major athletics and Charleston is a short drive when ISU is on the road or not playing.

3) Why would I? NIL is no different than willingly dating a known gold digger.
