With Gray returning, that leaves 10 roster spots.

For having a team with 3 players, the silence is deafening.
I took this to mean we haven’t made progress in filling our openings……..What do you want to do differently? Everyone wondered why the P5's decided to opt out of the NIT...
Every mid major coach in the country should react accordingly next post-season. Play in the NIT to further expose the value of your assets/investments your players. Why?! Take away the scenario where a coach is leaving as that's not going to happen to our program every year - why would a coach put his roster in a situation where everyone in the country can watch/scout your best players?!
Opt out of the NIT, limit the exposure on your players and get a jump start on the portal.
Is that a rhetorical question or what? What do you want to do differently?

I get the fact that the NIT provides more exposure given the limited number of teams playing at that time and the number of eyes watching, but do you think playing in the NIT puts THAT MUCH of a spot light on a team? Is that due to seeing players play against fairly high profile teams? In your opinion.....if exposure to a teams best players during the regular season + conf tourney = X, then exposure to a teams best players during the regular season + conf tourney + NIT = what? What do you want to do differently? For context, Arkansas currently has one player on its roster…a walk-on. And they have Calipari and a war chest of NIL dollars.
This just takes some time.

I get what you're saying, makes sense. I would add to that the exposure on the program as well. The same time guys playing in the NIT are getting seen/scouted by other teams with deep(er) pockets, programs playing in the NIT are getting seen/scouted by players entering the portal looking for an opportunity. I'm not saying the effect is equal, but i'd think the effect could be significant enough to play in the NIT anyway.I’m using this post season run and what it did for these players as a measuring stick… And I’m not doing that again if I’m the HC.
Do I think Larry or Kent end up at Texas? Absolutely not. They both were terrific for the better part of that NIT run. I think both had value before the NIT run without a doubt - but the level and the $$ both went up in those 5 games.
Conwell was always going to be hard for us to keep - but the NIT run made it impossible. Regardless of what the coach did - I think he would have had to test the waters to see what sort of an offer he could get.
To answer your question when we have limited P5 opportunities all of which take place in the nonconference if they happen at all… then I think it’s definitely important to a players value to play in postseason high leverage games against P5 schools. I think those coaches and scouts get a better gauge on those NIT games than they do MVC regular season games.
Of course I’m looking at this from the coaches and program aspect - if I’m a mid major player and my coach is taking opportunities away from me to increase my value I might not look to come here in the first place. You might only be able to get away with that under very specific circumstances… if you had the season like we had and we’re going to be a number one seed in the NIT then you almost always have to take it. The circumstances will not always be that either…
I think if you spin it as the goal is to make the NCAA tournament and we’re going to get started on that in the portal as soon as possible and go back to work - then you can convince a good group of guys to run it back. That has to be the goal when you’ve got a good core - keep as much of the roster in tact as possible and let’s make a run at the NCAA Tournament next year.
* In saying this, I’m fairly certain NIL Earnings > NCAA Tournament Appearance / Team Accomplishments. As these players are weighing returning vs entering the portal. So it likely will not matter if a coach enters into the NIT or not. If those players are going to test the market nothing you can do to stop them.
But like this year - they might go from “maybe” we can offer them enough to stay. To “absolutely can’t” offer them enough to stay. That’s the point I’m trying to make.

Still in portal waiting for a home. He would be much better suited to stay here, and if he puts up good numbers then move up.Anyone seen or heard anymore on Shetlar? I am assuming he is gone?

He’s going to need to have a big off-season as far as development goes if he’s going to “put up good numbers” here… Even though we turn over nearly our entire roster Graves is out looking for experience (juniors and seniors) - Shetler is going to have to out play them for minutes. Not to say he can’t - but I don’t think anything is guaranteed for him. He’s in a really difficult spot IMO. He just needs to work on his body and his game this off-season if he wants to “put up numbers” at this level.
Selfishly, I want him to come back and compete for those minutes because kid can shoot it. If he can figure out the rest he could pop - no doubt. But it isn’t going to be easy for him if we’re being honest.
