WANTED: Passionate Sycamore Fanatics. That You?

Register NOW to join our community of die-hard Sycamore fans.

Me personally I don't think we have to worry about next year with virtually most coming back outside of 2 that we know of. It will be the after next season in 2025 where things get Dicey.
Or do the players just go in the portal and follow him? I hope not.

Considering the 2 time transfer rule was only waived for this season. If it goes back into effect Main core can't leave without sitting out a year except Robbie and Julian.

I was being a little exaggerative, but the post is on Twitter where a BOT member said we don't need a President or AD to retain HCJS and it could be done if the fan base just donates more. Just a monumental misunderstanding of sports business.
What's the difference between this and donating to NIL to keep players around? If I was going to donate towards paying someone I'd rather donate money towards keeping Schertz than players.

No difference then. Someone says we keep coach if we have the money, and you say we keep coach if we have the money. The real story here is that we can't keep him if a big money school wants him. Having or not having football is irrelevant.

Dude, do you ever want to stop being intellectually dishonest? You're either that or your being maliciously obtuse.

Mallory makes about $250k. Wilson makes $90k. Bath makes $66k. So that is $406k from the head coach and two coordinators. There are 8 additional paid assistant coaches. So you are likely looking at another $250k to $400k in that pool. So being conservative that is likely $750k. We could fund his salary at the top of the league, before incentives, with that alone. Alone. A-FUCKING-lone.

Further, it isn't about keeping him from a blue blood. Everyone here knows we cannot compete financially with SEC or Big Ten schools and nobody is advocating for us trying to do this. It's about keeping him (or his future replacement) from jumping to what should be viewed as a lateral move. We're talking about him being a potential candidate for DePaul. DePaul!? Not the 70's DePaul. The 2024 Fucking DePaul program. If you surveyed every Big East school, they would unanimously vote to kick them out of the league today. Hell, they'd help them pack their shit to get them out the door quicker.

Our goal should be to fund at the top of the league so we can make every attempt to let someone build a program here a la Mark Few at Gonzaga. If that guy eventually leaves for a Duke? That means we were FUCKING DOMINANT for an extended period of time and became a NCAA tournament mainstay. That means we were relevant on the national stage and likely have a bunch of candidates chomping at the bit to replace him.

I see you were at the game last night. Are you willing to admit that the environment and passion last night will NEVER be duplicated at an Indiana State football game? The amount of national attention, re-tweets, etc will NEVER be duplicated by the football program. Hell Jay Bilas was talking up Indiana State on Gameday. When will Gameday ever mention Sycamore football?

Putting aside the math, the emotions, the wants, the wishcasting, all of it.

Are there any persons on this board that are proponents of Sycamore football that would challenge this statement?

Kind of interesting. On the STLU board they said a prominent booster has reached out to Porter Moser who apparently hates it in Oklahoma and wants out. They said DePaul has Moser at the top of their list as well. Moser to DePaul does make sense as he is a Chicago guy, he also has a big piggy bank from coaching and family money so I could see him taking on a pet project in DePaul

Well DePaul is at $1.125m and Oklahoma is at $2m. So if they can get boosters to pony up a little more, the difference is negligible if he is a Chicago guy and wants to get out of Norman.

Would love to hear what some of you who know more about the landscape of college basketball better feel about this....

Just a gut feeling, but I believe Coach Schertz would stay and build something special and sustaining here under the right circumstances...IF that's the case, the "powers that be" just need to make him an offer competitive with the best mid-majors/mid level Power 5's and I'd bet he would make it work here. He had sustained success for A LOT of years at Lincoln Memorial...he had to have been contacted by other like programs to STATE. He decided to come HERE for a host of reasons known primarily to him.

He has said many times Sherard sold him on how he would be supported and be let to build his program his way. A couple months ago coach mentioned how Sherard had held up every promise he made and that meant a lot to him. Now, Sherard is gone and we sitting in a state of uncertainty because our lame duck president can't get out of the way. If she truly cared about this university she would step aside now and let them move forward so we don't squander this chance to build something monumental.

The question is can we challenge the statement. No, football guys can’t. You want to grow the site and keep the members coming back. It’s good for advertising, I get it. But poking the fans that at least want to talk football only because the team sucks about ran me off. So, why don’t you guys let us football guys talk football as long as we still have a team, and focus on topics that don’t include football. Constantly poking!!

Because, as we've explained, we've come to the fork in the road where the hard decision needs to be made.

We can eliminate the financial albatross and sink those scare resources into programs that have a chance to make us nationally relevant or we can continue on the same path, enjoy this year and then likely fall back to Earth when HCJS leaves because he doesn't have the program support necessary to build a perennial MVC title contender and NCAA tournament regular.

You football folks want to keep handwaving away the math and the reality. This topic isn't going away and will continue to get louder with his continued success. The football forum still exists so feel free to hang out over there or just ignore this topic when it comes up since you don't wish to discuss it in good faith.

What’s stopping you?

I still a football forum listed on the site.

I know the reason! You guys beat a dead horse that goes on and on. Try so hard to explain in so many different well researched thought out ways. I am totally aware of what’s going on with this basketball team, and how we need to capitalize on it. The Thousand or more tailgaters at Homecoming that spend serious money at hotels and restaurants in The Haute might not agree with your business logic living in Vegas.
I’m surprised SSOM doesn’t chime in on the impact HC has for the economy that weekend.
You threaten before to eliminate the football category, but didn’t follow through.
Remember, it’s only this year they are on a roll. I’m not going to dog pile putting all my eggs in 1 basket over 1 amazing year when we all know how it goes with the fan base over average years.

Yes, I feel like he would. The reality is we should only lose him for one of three reasons:

1) The program performed so well that a legit basketball-focused high major came knocking with an offer he could not refuse;
2) His alma mater came knocking with an offer he could not refuse;
3) He does not feel Indiana State is delivering what it promised to him and has a lateral opportunity that is willing to commit what we have not.

Coaches want to be well compensated and want to have the resources they deem necessary to build and sustain their program. Here are likely the five most important tangible things you can do to hire and retain your head coach.

1) Head Coach Salary - Be paid among the tops at the mid-major level to prevent lateral moves.
2) Assistant Coach Salary Pool - Be able to hire and retain your assistants versus having a rotating door.
3) NLI Salary Pool - Be able to recruit and retain your best players in today's landscape.
4) Sufficient Budget - Buy games, travel and logistics expenses, recruiting expenses, etc.
5) Facilities - This includes both your home arena and a suitable practice facility.

Then for intangibles, the relationship the coach has between his AD and the University President is paramount. To be successful long term, they need to have a unified vision, and be able to work in lockstep towards carrying that out. If this is strained, while they may be able to fake it until they make it, one of them may always have a foot out the door and not be totally committed.

I think your better off getting a huge fundraising campaign going on with Alums and fans to continue and contribute their support, instead of football is killing us.
