Defense isn't the primary trait they're looking for in a center. In fact, it may be 5th at best if you're putting together a top 5. Doesn't crack mine.

High BB IQ - Need to be able to see the floor and anticipate what's going to happen.
Playmaking - Need to be able to execute off what you're seeing.
Shooting - Need to be able to shoot from deep to drive spacing for system.
Scoring - Need to be able to get a shot on your own when shit breaks down.
Consistency - Need to be able to do all of those things consistently.

Then I'd put defense into the picture but I'd still probably put it behind intangibles.

The goal for the Hub 5 is to essentially produce plus points versus what you'd give up defensively. If you can account for 30+ points in a game between your own production and what happens off your playmaking, it is very unlikely you're a liability unless Wilt is out there on the other side.
Much easier in my opinion to teach defense or scheme a defense, than to make someone a good offensive player.

That and as many teams live and die by the 3 and very few true post players exist anymore, defending the post isn't as essential as it was in the previous iteration of hoop.

So, you are describing a 32-7 team that played near here last year?

I would think we need to look for another big for 2025-2026. Of course we'll probably have an exodus of some players as well too.

There are about 3-4 maybe 5 I'd like to see stay. Going to be a way different feeling this season when the "First i want to thank Indiana State University for the opportunity, but after long discussion with my family and trusting God......" posts hit compared to last year.

4 maybe 5 guys we may want to keep if we can. We need some dawgs, the guys the other teams fans hate. Talent never hurts either.whether we can pay enough to attract those guys who knows.

Cook, Summers, Alocen, Harding, say hello to the portal fellas. Still unsure on how I feel about the rest. Hope we keep Camp and JD (despite the end of his season, he had bright spots just needs to learn and grow). Sucks that Gray was finally feeling himself late in the season just to lose him.

I’m torn on Legree. Flashes of brilliance among other boneheaded mistakes.

Flashes of brilliance is a MASSIVE stretch.

- zero shot.

- zero defense.

- undersized.

- not elite at anything.

If you all are in the business of being a.500 or worse program then these are the type of players you’re torn on. This is not a hard decision.

If Legree wants to come back for free or whatever nominal amount we are paying him, sure bring him back. But I’m not giving him a dime more than he may or may not be making now. He can come back and prove it like Gray and JD were able to do. Same can be said for Vorst, he didn’t earn any additional $$ is what it is.

Bruno was probably our second best player on the floor in the second half - say what your will but he had a good game. He also has the highest ceiling of any freshman on the roster and it’s not particularly close.

And the only reason y’all don’t like him is, he played the most as a freshman so he got exposed the most, but he was on the floor for a reason - the first of which is we weren’t very good to begin with the second of which is because he was better than any other option. Very simple.

I pray that Legree stays. I don't have a clue what Cook or Summers can do. I know Summers is an excellent outside shooter.

I think Walker and Alderink can improve like Daughtry did.

I rode his ass all season, but my complaints were his defense. He has a lot to learn still and has to spend significant time in the weight room, but he will be a solid piece moving forward. There are 6 guys I hope we keep and they are JD, Wagner, Walker, Bruno, Vorst and Alderink. That obviously leaves you needing to go after some guys at the 1 and 2 position. We also need to increase our collective basketball IQ. This team was very poor at making good decisions, especially in crunch time. Some of that will come from the learned experience with the younger guys, but we need to bring in some of that from the portal too.

You absolutely could not be more wrong.

You left out the most talented player - Legree. There is NO question that by his JR year he is better than Teel.
