Alocen needs to work on his ball handling, playing off the dribble and finishing. He was pretty horrible around the hoop. But it's really not his fault that we were weak in that category. To ask a true freshman, from spain, that came in late to be what we've had the past 2-3 seasons is just not logical thinking. The miss here was Summers; he was suppose to be that 2 guard that can hit the 3 but also score at all 3 levels and get to the rack. Graves gave him every opportunity to be that dude but for whatever reason it didn't work out, Alocen was the only other option and did the best he could. I'm not going to lose my mind if Alocen leaves but i'd also want him back, but he HAS to work on his deficiencies
Cook was also a miss. He obviously missed most of the season due to injury, but when he did play early he looked totally lost.

Guys, guys, guys: just because someone does not play this year doesn't mean he can't play next year. Should we have cut Vorst and Daughtry last year? Remember a guy named Odum; and, didn't Scott redshirt too? I'll bet Bledson was not ready when he was a FR. I know Larry was not that good as a FR. Dewayne Brown?
We've had some FR play in the past only by default because of our lack of quality players.

Old Dewayne Brown… Honestly, when you call Devante Brown Dewayne Brown it’s time for you to sit this one out. We got it from here - genuinely, thank you for the contributions!

I thought he made some really good passes. For his minutes, he got more than his share of assists. He can shoot, handle, shoot, drive and jump. Did you watch him any in HS or AAU?

He shot 22% from three on the season. Twenty Two... And 70% from the foul line. From January 1 until the end of the season he was 3-27 from deep. He can't shoot.

He had 41 Turnovers and 64 assists on the season. Part of being a good passer is being able to pass guys open and making sure that the ball is receivable - I've never seen a guy throw it at a players feet more frequently than Legree. Just because you can thread the needle doesn't make it a good pass if the guy you are throwing it to can't catch it. 41 Turnovers is brutal.

You are being very misleading or ignoring factual data and I have no idea why. It's bizarre.

I’m just watching this really hoping this becomes SSOM vs ‘backer circa post-Ju Larry’s Freshman season.

So do you guys think we keep both Legree and Cook, keep 1, or start over at the PG position? I won't be upset if we keep either of them, but it has to be at a minimal price. Cook has to have some scoring capabilities, he averaged over 12 a game as a freshman at VMI. In his limited playing this year he had a 2:1 A/TO ratio, but rarely shot the ball. It will be interesting to see HCMG's approach this off season.

For my 2 cents worth: Joshiah Legree had a huge adjustment from HS to D1.

Things that work for small guards usually don't work as well right out of the box for an undersized guard. (Michael Mensers are extremely rare).

I thought over the course of the season, his decision making was improving game by game. His assist to turnover ratio was MUCH better than almost any other player on the team. We all remember the multiple drives into the lane (what the offense called for him to be doing) that ended up in a turnover or a wild shot. Somehow, we forget the positives quickly. Certainly that is the attitude by most on the board about nearly every player. Based on the opinions here, no one would ever get off the bench.

I expect that when he made those drives in Baltimore, he got by people to the rim. He needs to get heavier and stronger to take on the contact and finish.
One play late sticks in my mind: he outjumped all of SIU's big guys at the rim on Sunday. He can really get up for his size.
I do believe he will eventually harnass those physical assets in a positive way.
I HOPE his shooting issues were affected by learning how to get his shot off over bigger, quicker defenders than he had seen in the past.

If he gets more comfortable and gets more minutes, he may settle down into a plus shooter but only time will tell. We all saw Teel and Wagner have games where they were allowed to go 2/10 or worse. Legree never got that kind of minutes or freedom in his short stints.

What I saw when he was on the bench was a player totally engaged in the success of Samage Teel and the team. I really liked that. I do believe he has been learning and improving over the season.

I think his stats compare with Larry's as a FR. I saw him play in HS and AAU. He was the MVP on the championship team. He can shoot and we have never had a better finisher at the rim on drives.
I can't believe you would get on here and criticize a FR who came in late and making a TOUGH transition to mid-major college basketball. If you need track to relate to: how did our FR do at the conference indoor meet this year?

I’m sold on LeGree, not Cook. More years left higher ceiling in my opinion. Someone give that kid a hamburger though he needs to pack on a few pounds in the off season

Larry is 6'3 vs. Legree 5'10

Larry was a plus defender from the giddy - Legree is not a defender at all.

Larry had a great motor - it was all about improving his offensive game. Legree wants to look cool - basically the oppo of Larry.

You can't believe it, really? I've always done it - this isn't something new. To be perfectly honest, now more than ever in an era of college basketball where it's more of a business with players getting an annual salary - I don't feel any kind of way about evaluating college basketball players freshman or not.

As for your track comment - I didn't bring track up in the first place today. If that was supposed to be some sort of a dig - then you got me.

Lets get down to brass tax. The only way I keep Legree is if he has no NIL cost.

Remember that for 2025-2026, basketball moves from 13 to 15 scholarships.

I don't have a clue how the money will work but I would keep all of the fr. We will not get a transfer with Legree's ability.

Are we going to bring in new players every year to learn our offense? And I think our offense is better than a lot of the others. Some teams are totally iso to kick out for a 3.

And what if keep them and they get better as so's then leave and we have to replace them?

In the last 3 years we've had Henry, Voss, Bledson, Conwell, Swope, Teel and a few others that produced at a way higher level than LeGree has.

No knock on LeGree. I hope he stays because there is talent there and he needs time to develop. But to make a statement that we can't get a transfer with his ability is just not accurate.

Good point. We also brought in some that did not or have not made it, so our BA is not 100. And remember, as of right now he is our only PG.
