Which ones would you say aren't mids?

Also big believer that conference makes the mid-major, not the team. So I'd say they qualify.
The top 3 teams plus Memphis. Obviously, we’re talking semantics but I don’t think the traditional mountain west teams fit as mid major or high major. With the realignment stuff happening there will be shake ups with how those teams do and how the are perceived.

Also, Anybody who considers Gonzaga a mid major hasn’t been paying attention for 2 decades. I don’t care what conference they are in they are recruiting and spending money at a high major level…and they are outperforming all but maybe 10 high majors on a consistent basis. Things could fall off once mark few retires but they’ve been hanging around the top of the top for quite some time.

Which team sounds like a more dangerous opponent: Illinois Tech or Mercyhurst???

The Mercyhurst Lakers, a relatively new D1 program in the Northeast Conference (NEC) beat Loyola of Chicago in the Gentile Center last night leading the entire way. Up by 10+ most of the second half. Loyola cut it to 7 on several occasions, but the Lakers always had an answer.

It was only the fourth loss at home in the past two seasons for A10 Member Loyola

I'm not going to lie, I still keep an eye on SLU because I'm not wishing for their success. As for Conwell, that dude was a dog and will most likely get NBA opportunities. The guy is making more money that JS this year and he simply couldn't have done that at ISU. You could say the same for JS, but for him, it was all about how he handled the situation (lying to our admin. and donor, manipulating the local media through the process, dragging it out so we couldn't hire a new HC). Not to mention, he screwed himself while doing it because that Louisville job would have been his. I'm sure L'ville is thrilled how it worked out with Kelsey and still getting Ryan.

You're spittin' straight facts on all this. I was being a little facetious about Conwell....I actually watched the Louisville game to see how he would do. We were never going to keep him around even if JS stayed. I tell everyone about how I think its funny that him doing what he did with the SLU gig cost him the opportunity get the Louisville job. Not to rehash it all, but how easy it would have been, and everyone here would have understood, for him to say I can't turn down this amount of money and let us get on with finding a new coach. Honesty is hard for some people though, I guess. That's it, I'm done with the past bs. Here's to moving forward and continuing to get better this season. 🍻

Conwell is one of the best players in the country and would start on any team in America, you aren’t keeping that around. Can’t fault him for anything he did. Hell, his college career is going to include being apart of a legendary 32 win team that will be talked about for a long time for being snubbed, a NCAA tournament team (earned or not), and by all account another NCAA team that looks like one of the best in the country and in the natty hunt this early in the season. Not too mention he will have MILLIONS in his bank account when he graduates and positioned to be on an NBA roster or make a shit ton overseas. I hate what college sports has become but he has made the right moves professionally. But man oh man he could have been a legend here and the “what-if” is a lot of us sycamore fans to bear with the new transfer rules.

Conwell merely stopping by ISU on his 4 different college journey was awesome. Kid can play ball and he represented the school well in his time here. I definitely tune into his games. He’s the only one I cared about TBH and he will play in the NBA in the coming years

I said in March of 2024 that for the last month and a half, Ryan Conwell was one of the best players in the country. He was truly playing at an All-America level during that time. A joy to watch!!!

Honestly though, I wish we could talk about that season in a more positive light. I get all the emotions, and I am bitter about the way it ended too, but we really should cherish how special that season was instead of burying it in the past. We may never have a season that special again.

Hopefully, we can soon make an NCAA Tournament and feel all those emotions again, but I don't believe it will get close to the full season enjoyment we had. Most likely a solid season with a special run in STL/March.

I will cherish that season for as long as I can remember it. What a year it was. Provided the only time in my life we've been ranked, albeit the shortest amount of time possible...haha. Unbelievable game atmospheres, high caliber talent, superb team play.....just a joy to watch it all unfold. The unfortunate part is how it all unraveled so quickly.

One way to look at it is we BUILT a successful team, while others can't do that so they have to BUY a team.
Yes, and we did it in the short window where it was still possible. You can't build like that anymore though unless you have endless NIL dollars. It's nearly impossible to retain top talent long enough to get the pieces around them you need to have a roster close to ours in that 32 win season.....too much money for college aged kids to turn down.

Totally! Why we talkin' about former Xavier players?!?!?!

(in all transparency, I do occasionally keep an eye on our former players, I annoy myself in that way)
Actually, I didn't realize Conwell had transferred; yet again. I was watching the UK/UL rivalry game when I spotted him. Conwell was my favorite player on the Sycamore team at the time.
