seeing our name listed with 15 other schools really doesn’t do much for me. Not like we’re only filling a couple spots. We’ve got a whole bench and some starting spots that are up for grabs
Yeah, it's unbelievable with all the open spots we haven't had a single commit. NOT ONE.

We got to get them on Campus first. I believe we have a some visits lined up now going into next week. So we should start seeing commitments as early as next week but most definitely the week after.

Sounds good. I really wish we knew who was visiting or has visited. That would ease my frustration a bit. It would be nice to know who they're really serious about. I know I've seen notifications of visits at other institutions. Thanks

19% of players in the portal have committed.

81% still available....

Smart people have said over the years in a lot of different situations - it's not about being first, it's about being right. I don't care if they are the last 3 players to commit to Indiana State, as long as they are the right 3 that is fine! Be patient, they've got to really do a good job evaluating and making the right offer to kids.

Where is Murray getting this money? They are a public school with average academics in Kentucky with an enrollment of 10,000 in a city of 17,000. Their endowment is similar but slightly less than ours. What am I missing?
From reading the article, it's alumni that have made solid money and putting a lot of it back into the university. They had 8 different 7-figure commitments to the athletics program in 2024. The largest is from the Dill family. Not like a huge household name or anything, but the type of donor that is huge in mid-major athletics. Both went to Murray, he played golf there, he ends up years down the road as the COO of a big hospital group.

It sounds like that's the main way they're raising a ton of money. They said they had "29 major donations" in 2024. So it's probably a combination of some corporate partnerships as well as alums who have done very well for themselves. It doesn't seem like "billionaire CEO gives $20 million", but more of "we have 20-ish involved alums who have made good money by starting their own business or being the CFO/COO of some large organization and are willing to drop $500k+ on the program".

It's not a big city and it's not a very big school, but out of 2,000 or so graduates every year, if even 1-2 can end up with a job that makes $400k+ down the road and cares about athletics/the school, that can be a big chunk of funding.

Our youngest daughter was a news anchor at WPSD Paducah for over 10 years and so knew the Murray area well. There is a TON of "old money" in the area from days past and Murray is the defacto "home town"school for Paducah. There are some really deep pockets in the area, but there is a pretty sharp division between the haves and the have-nots in the area. The mining, shipping and nuclear jobs have pretty much disappeared.

Sounds like a certain mid-major in west-central Indiana....

Murray State added Layne Taylor. We were on him during his HS recruitment. Figured we would have tried again.
