Looking at the first post, the early conference results and what we've got coming in, I'd like to see us try to find a long, athletic wing.

I agree. Also think we need another big and another ball handler.

Down for another ball handler for sure.

Why do you think another big? I could see it if Vorst leaves, but seems like we're going to get him and Harding as the 5 next year. Then at the 4 you have ESB (his job to lose) and I could see them playing both freshmen immediately so they would platoon. Land should come in hitting the ground running with a post grad year a la Khristian Smith.

I don’t see Land as a Center (maybe he becomes that) but another young big who would be in the system and the following year can contribute majorly. Not saying he would have to redshirt. I like Enel I just only want him playing the 5 in situational moments and not having it be because of injuries.

Land and Speckman are both centers, but I don't know about next year. With Vorst and Harding at 5 then 4 is a concern. Hazelett is pretty skilled, but a FR. Nordheim has shown pretty good, I think, for the 4.

As a side note: I've been watching Speckman and Thomas. Thomas is apparently not a shooter, but can drive and has passing skills.
Speckman will eventually be a rim protector but needs to work on his inside shooting touch. All announcers make the point that he is at least 6'9" and we haven't had many players at his height with his quickness and jump.

JVB will hit the portal. Gotta think Camp at least explores his options. Walker portal.

Think Enel, Vorst, Sivert, Martin and Harding will be back.

So I’m working under the assumption we still have 4 openings not just 2.

Is he that good and I’m missing it? I mean he’s getting better, but I’m not seeing some world beater that reminds me of Bird, or even of Julian Larry…

I mean - I’m not really trying to debate that point right now. I’m just saying, they (his agent) basically said that he’s coming here on a one year deal. I am taking them at face value on that.

That’s it - period.

I wasn't going to put names out in the ether, but since you did, this is why I've been steadfast at wanting another PG. I think that piece has to be bought out of the portal.

PG - Veteran from the portal
SF - Athletic, long wing in the Cam Henry / Khristian Smith mold that can 3&D.

So do we have 2 or 4? I've not seen it asked this year and they didn't move up to the 15 man limit this year, but if they do not do it this offseason I will reiterate that we are not serious about truly competing. IMO, this is one of the ways MMs can fight the new normal by having guys learning the system and developing to potentially lessen the impact of portal losses.

What do I mean? There are still a TON of kids in the Rivals Top 250 that are unsigned because of how the landscape has changed. These are the Brenton Scott's of the past that you can literally get for just a little bit of effort because there are no longer spots for them as everyone buys from the D1-D3 transfer portals. These guys can now be your 13-15th guys where you get nothing but potential upside.

Yeah and I could be totally wrong… Just going based on what makes sense for the player really or what we’ve heard. With it being Vorst last chance to cash in I could see him testing the market. With Martin having used up nothing I can see TH being too small for his liking and could see him testing the market. Feel like several MVC guys did this last year if I’m remembering correctly? Entered the portal only to pull back at a later date.

All that said, Camp certainly has a home here and if $$ is truly not a concern for him - he could play out his career here, make a decent amount of money doing so and go down as one of the better statistical players in program history and maybe one of the last players that spends three years of eligibility with one program. It’s pretty well known he coulda made a decent amount of money had he entered the portal last season - he’s done nothing to really hurt his value at this point.

Camp follows college ball verrrry closely and is very aware of players on other teams. I hope he really thinks about his legacy here, path to playing time, and honestly the leash he has with his shot and defense. Camp can most definitely get more money from a different program, but will he be as highly valued as a player and a community member? What if he gets a P5 offer, struggles to shoot like he did to begin this season and gets lots in the shuffle on the bench? He’s a fantastic shooter, but at the P5 level, you need another tool (good passer, great ball handler, or defender). This isn’t a guy that is not going to finish college and struggle to find a career/money. Camp has a home here and I hope he finishes it out.

Vorst is similar in that he is at the right level, brings back fan memories from a special season, not much competition for PT, and a special opportunity in this climate to play all 4 years at the same school.

Yup, I really hope Camp sees the value in building his legacy as a Sycamore. He has an opportunity to be a 1000 point scorer here (if things continue like they are) which is very unique in this day and age. He also has a chance to always call this place home and be welcomed back with open arms - which again is very unique these days. In all honesty he is probably playing at the perfect level as far as maximizing his playing time/stats while also being at a school and league that will get you noticed if you deserve to be noticed

I think he will see what’s out there but with an option to return. Excluding money the chance to go back and play home will be the biggest thing if any TX schools start calling.
