The probably is JVB was overhyped this offseason and he's finding out how difficult the Valley actually is.
Yeah and there’s no way he’s moving up. So either he moves down a conference, decides wants to come back (Not sure if we say yes to that or not) or maybe goes back overseas. 4th option transfer and stays in the Valley somehow.

I wouldn't think so either unless his agent is owed a favor. I think his game is suited for the MVC and I think he'll get better with more burn under his belt. I did expect him to shoot better and sub 40% from the line is inexcusable for a guard.

I mean...dude can get his bag if he wants it ...but it's going to come with either lesser playing time or lesser competition or both

Would be interesting to see a study of MM players avg. 25+ mpg that go HM and see their mpg avg.
Of course, there are many cases like Conwell, A. Reeves, Lendeborg, etc…but probably equally as many that “waste” their final eligibility. At least they get paid though, I guess.

Tried getting a list via AI but unsuccessful. It said 700-750 MMs that averaged 25mpg transferred up over last couple cycles but couldn't give me the names so I couldn't even look to see what they were averaging now. But I bet it would be interesting data to see.

Looking forward to 2026-2027 roster. Very much like the incoming high school class. Hope a specific 6 players return. And with the recent NIL investment, hopefully can locate & secure a few portal game changers.

I watched half of a game against the best team in MO and Thomas had 4 steals. An opposing coach said Hazelett defended his 6'7" Toledo recruit better than anyone the last 2 years.

To get better, it is always imperative to recruit over the current roster potential returning players. Optimistically, it feels like that happened for the most part. We shall see.

No one on this roster should come back without a good hard look at what they bring to the table. I'm good with starting from scratch and looking for complete culture change. 2 or 3 guys might make the cut. Someone on this staff has to be able to recognize talent that can play at MVC level.

This is the part that concerns me. I really like this staff, great people and good ambassadors for the university, but can they locate and sign the talent we need? This past season was a huge swing and miss on many. Is it really true that we couldn't even talk to guys we wanted because we didn't have enough money......I guess we'll have to take HCMG's word on that. It that truly was the barrier, perhaps our influx of cash will result in major improvement next year. The next questions becomes, do you change your system? We've all been told that this system relies upon corporate knowledge and roster continuity. IS THAT EVEN REMOTLY POSSIBLE ANYMORE? So many questions leading into this offseason...I just hope we don't screw it up again.

Which is it?: Our talent is competitive and good enough to win, but the coaching is not which leads to collapses in the final 5 minutes due to poor closing strategy and substitutions OR our talent is inferior (the majority opinion on this board) but playing competitively because our coaches have a great game plan of attack, defense and substitutions (certainly NOT the opinion on this board) that hides the deficiencies for 35 minutes but eventually superior talent defeats superior coaching.

If it were both inferior talent and poor coaching, how is it that the team leads so often until the final 5 minutes only to lose repeatedly by 6 points or less?? In that situation, it would seem repeated blowout losses would be the order of the day every game.

Reality is it is likely a little bit of both -- situationally dependent on the game. In a couple games, some of the guys sitting on the bench that can get you a bucket should probably have been on the floor. That said, overall, I say we just don't have legit closers -- guys that can get a HARD bucket when you need one.

As I always say, Jimmys and Joes over Xs and Os.

It's very easy. You are what your record says you are. ISU is 11-21. We obviously have both talent and coaching deficiencies. And one (I'll let you decide which one leads to the other) inevitably leads to the other, particularly when you're not spending $5M on the roster.

1) Can they locate and sign talent they need?

Legit question. Now that money isn't an excuse, this is their make or break offseason. Previous hit rate isn't very solid.

2) Do you change your system?

No. We led in like 10+ games in the final 4 minutes that we ended up losing. That isn't a system thing but rather the testicular fortitude of those on the floor. For next year, we need two guys -- an athletic guard and forward that can get a tough bucket at the rim when the intensity has been ramped up and they're taking away your standard offense.
