So if there 722 boys and girls total, that's roughly 361 boys (if you split it down the middle) that means that the average state has about 7 representatives. Yeah I know states like California & Florida are going to have way more than Wyoming, Hawaii, etc. But it sounds like getting nominated probably means you are in discussion for 1st team all-state. I'll take that kind of recruit any day of the week. I know being invited to the actual game is BIG TIME, but it seems that we have been getting some recruits with more accolades/nominations than we have in the past. I saw Vorst also got nominated for this as well. Things are looking up for us

Problem is anyone can be nominated IIRC. You just have to be nominated by someone who has credentials to do so. I would say Manyawu is the best HS senior among our 2023 signees, but he did not get a MAA nomination. Yes, i think any of the players who get nominated are certainly very good, but the selecting process seems strange to say the least.

An approval process....

Nomination criteria include:

Athletic Achievement

  • Player’s accomplishments on the hardwood.
  • High school career: All evaluations and nominations are based on the individual player’s fundamental skill level and athleticism.
  • Player’s Accolades
  • Has played in 50% of their senior year season.

Scholastic Achievement

  • Attends and participates in a high school program that has ONE eligible varsity team and is a member of a high school athletic conference or league.
  • All nominees must be eligible to participate under the rules of the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) or other comparable organizations.
  • A nominee is eligible to be a McDonald’s All American if he or she is deemed eligible to participate under their high school and governing league policies.
  • Each nominee must be a high school senior.
  • Nominees cannot have their 19th birthday before September 1st of their senior year.
  • Nominees must be academically eligible to participate with their high school team based on their school and league requirements.
  • Nominees cannot hold a professional status as a basketball player or receive payment/inducements for participation in basketball games/events.
  • Nominees must live in The United States and attend a United States High School.
Behavior

  • Players who have been convicted of a felony are not permitted.
  • Players who have been charged with a felony with a case pending are not permitted.
  • Players who have a history of “getting in trouble” with either the law (i.e. misdemeanor), at school, during extracurricular activities, and/or at home may be excluded pending feedback from their principal, athletic director, coach, league officials, and/or community leaders.
  • The Selection Committee will review on a case-by-case basis.

Each student-athlete who is nominated and in good academic standing will receive a certificate from McDonald’s acknowledging their nomination for the 2023 McDonald’s All American Games.

To assist you with the process, an online nomination form is available for those who are authorized to nominate players.

would say Manyawu is the best HS senior among our 2023 signees,
Extremely excited about how quick he is. I'm projecting that he and Doughty could work into the starting lineup next year and the other two are candidates for RS. This prediction is almost a year early and I'm taking a chance in being wrong, but hopefully, SSOM is the only one that is keeping score.

I'm not convinced the kid is done growing - his arms go down to his knees. Add a couple inches and he's got a little Kansas's own Gradey Dick look to him. If he can shoot it like Gradey that'd be okay too.

I am probably going to pull a comparison out too old for most of you, but he looks and plays a lot like Jeff Lauritzen did for the Sycamores. SSOM i agree he is not done growing, imagine two more inches, 6'7" with that outside shot! gonna be fun to watch. Make sure he has the deluxe mealplan on campus and he should bulk up nicely!

As a collector of ISU game programs....I recently purchased a batch of Lauritzen era programs. Love to see him develop into a Lauritzen
style shooter.
