Apparently Shaka Smart is meeting with his VCU team right now.

He's either telling him he's staying or he's off to Austin. From the buzz on Twitter, sounds like he is gonna be a Horn.

Wonder what he did???

Sexually/verbally harassing women in public. There's video on the web of Jans smacking a random woman on her butt and calling another girl a bitch. That's just one video. Sounds like he had a reputation for this kind of behavior and once video evidence was brought to light Bowling Green acted quickly.

I'm guessing he's back on Wichita's bench next year.

Don't think Wichita folks will want to bring that on themselves? He needs to take a hiatus for a while. They have a good thing going out there and don't need a ticking time bomb on their bench.

Correct you are! I don't see him in college hoops. NBA??? No problem if he has the resume'.

Is Sampson still coaching at Houston?

Jeff Goodman (and other analysts) are reporting Shaka Smart has taken the Texas job.

Apparently top two names for VCU job is Chattanooga's head man as well as Rice's head coach.

Saw that Smart's contract stated that if he left for another school, that school would have to play a home and home series or pay $250,000 to the school. I hope we have something along those lines in Lansing's contract. We know how hard it can be to schedule, so you either get two guaranteed games or cash.

I don't know...college assistant coaches can be pretty anonymous. You can stay out of the public eye pretty easily if you wanted to. Gregg Marshall credits Jans for creating the WSU ball-screen motion offense they run today. He's said many times that it is Jans' system.

Either way - kudos to Bowling Green for acting quickly and not having any tolerance for that kind of behavior. It took only about 2 weeks between when they received the email and video to when they fired Jans.

I imagine Texas will just cut a check?

Texas - Shaka Smart
Glad to see him collect on a big payday and wish him lots of luck BUT coaching & leading over-achievers and getting the same results with more talented prima donna type players is two different entities. Will be interesting to see how this turns out.

Avery Johnson to Alabama, so Lansing won't be going there.

I think they would have done a lot better by getting Lansing and would have been cheaper. The hire of Avery Johnson seems odd to me. They're paying big money for a guy that has never recruited or coached in college. Just seems like an odd choice to me.

Alabama was worried about one thing and one thing only...hiring the biggest name possible. I would of went after Murray State's coach after Marshall said no. He's not a splashy hire like Johnson so therefore didn't get a whole lot of consideration.

I guess... as a coach you weigh the options... Coach at Alabama for 4 years and fail - then your career is in shambles... where to then? Of course, some can retire after that contract - some can't. Many won't. Any really good coach with a successful history will not risk it at Alabama. IMHO
