Boy, if Chris Mullin can deliver after his presser today, St. John's is going to be scary. Looks like he is going to embrace recruiting, too.

Although, deep down, I bet a lot of them wish the had him back.

I used to think all of our coaches were just crap. Then, I learned that they were dealing with some ridiculous constraints on their activities, like fewer scholarships, limits on where they could recruit, limits on out of state scholies, recruiting budgets near zero. I just wonder what kind of these "behind the scenes" things Barry is dealing with? I think that's a legit question. The upcoming $44 million budget cut from SIU-Carbondale can't be a surprise, so the cuts probably already started. Barry can coach. I watched too many of his teams dismantle our teams over the years.

Not sure this is good for the Valley or not... College hoops nut jobs saying that Ofcourse he is coming bak to the Shox, he can go to the tournament every year in the Valley...

Factual but great... The Valley became the Horizon league with Butler in it, don't ya just feel wonderful about life. Lol

To me that is as much of a shot at Marshall as it is the Valley. They are basically saying that Marshall can't rise to the challenge of getting Alabama to be a successful program.

I, for one, was kind of hoping he would take the job because I wanted to see how successful he could be. For the record, I think he would have done very well in Tuscalloosa.

Man, so where does Alabama turn now? I'm shocked they can't find anyone to take their money.

Also curious who VCU goes after if Shaka bolts for Austin.

If Shaka goes to Austin, do you think VCU can keep the high profile they have now? our will they be another SIU (Alright maybe not as bad as SIU, they are terrible)?

They are a very young program, so not much long term history.

Have a lot of competition with Richmond, Virginia, Virginia Tech.

They also played a very fun to watch style under Shaka, I cant imagine they would draw as much outside interest if they played a more conservative style.

That's certainly the question. They've had a niche playing style in a smaller conference. Now that they're in the A10, the margin for error is much less. If you lose your coach that makes it all go, they could be in trouble. I don't know squat about his assistants so I bet they hope one has been taking all of it in in hopes of continuity if/when Shaka bolts.

Anthony Grant - the guy who started it all at VCU
