I 99.99% believe there were backroom talks between Memphis and PAC early.
Memphis tells PAC Hell yeah! We're down! And if we go Tulane, UTSA, USF will follow.
All the while Memphis and those three schools are leveraging the potential move to the PAC to get a better deal out of the AAC.
I have this thing where I always underestimate how stupid people can actually be. I figured no way the PAC leadership would go full Leroy Jenkins! and do this unless they had assurances from other schools they could get it done.
Basically Memphis and Company Mick Cronin'd the PAC.
I dont get why they would want football only UCONN when adding them and Gonzaga would make a top 2 basketball league. The Pac-12 has also talked to UCONN about a football-only option because nothing is more Pacific than the state of Connecticut.
My guess is that UNLV ultimately joins within the next few days, but the whole thing is just weird and makes no sense. Between exit fees and penalties against O/WSU they're all spending a combined $168M just so they don't have to play New Mexico, Air Force, Wyoming, Nevada, and San Jose St. Nevermind the fact that the Mtn West was a 6 bid league last season in basketball and they're leaving two of those schools behind.I dont get why they would want football only UCONN when adding them and Gonzaga would make a top 2 basketball league.
Bc Football is the most important. They need 2 more schools for football in order to operate as a FBS conference. Basketball is not their priority (although trying get convince Gonzaga says otherwise)I dont get why they would want football only UCONN when adding them and Gonzaga would make a top 2 basketball league.
