According to Brett McMurphy UNLV and Utah State are the Pac 12's top targets if they expand within the Western USA footprint.

San Jose State joins UNLV and AFA. Nevada-Reno is expected. Wyoming, Utah St, New Mexico, and Hawaii are still on the clock. I think the goal is to get all of the MWC-8 on board today and collect OWSU penalties and exit fees.

Looks like Utah State is heading to the Pac-12.

PAC (7+1):
Boise St
SDSU
Fresno St
Wash St
Oregon St
Colo St
Utah St
*maybe Gonzaga

MWC (6+1):
UNLV (committed)
Air Force (committed)
San Jose State (committed)
Nevada (expected to commit)
Wyoming
New Mexico
*Hawaii

Comment of the day from the UNLV board.

I 99.99% believe there were backroom talks between Memphis and PAC early.

Memphis tells PAC Hell yeah! We're down! And if we go Tulane, UTSA, USF will follow.

All the while Memphis and those three schools are leveraging the potential move to the PAC to get a better deal out of the AAC.

I have this thing where I always underestimate how stupid people can actually be. I figured no way the PAC leadership would go full Leroy Jenkins! and do this unless they had assurances from other schools they could get it done.

Basically Memphis and Company Mick Cronin'd the PAC.

Conference realignment news coming out in real time. What a world we live in.

I figured conference realignment took months/years of studies, financial reports, money allocation, prep, etc. And here it sounds like a couple dudes in suites are just making deals over the phone and then hanging up and making another deal on 10 minutes later. Wild.

Looks like Nevada, New Mexico, and Wyoming are sticking with UNLV, Air Force, and San Jose State. No word on Hawaii yet.

Now reporting that UNLV isnt officially committed to the MWC yet and still mulling options.

Realignment is just reality TV.

The Pac-12 has also talked to UCONN about a football-only option because nothing is more Pacific than the state of Connecticut.

I dont get why they would want football only UCONN when adding them and Gonzaga would make a top 2 basketball league.

My guess is that UNLV ultimately joins within the next few days, but the whole thing is just weird and makes no sense. Between exit fees and penalties against O/WSU they're all spending a combined $168M just so they don't have to play New Mexico, Air Force, Wyoming, Nevada, and San Jose St. Nevermind the fact that the Mtn West was a 6 bid league last season in basketball and they're leaving two of those schools behind.

Bc Football is the most important. They need 2 more schools for football in order to operate as a FBS conference. Basketball is not their priority (although trying get convince Gonzaga says otherwise)
