My guess is that Hawaii will be paying a majority of the travel expenses (to/from HI) for the Mtn West schools if they do join as a full member. I think they currently pay for 100% of the travel expenses of the Big West schools when they travel to/from Hawaii. For Hawaii to join the Mtn West their travel expenses will have to either be equal to or less than what they are spending now, although they will also have to put TV revenue into the equation as a full-member vs as a fb-only member. There go all those FBS, Mtn West football riches... up in jet fuel plumes, dragging every UH Warriors team to the mainland and back
spent it before but never flew past california...
Hope they have a great travel agency... getting teams to El Paso will be SLIGHTLY more difficult than LAX, San Diego...
Laramie, WY PROUDLY welcomes UH!! Did you pack a sweater?

If they're going to Laramie or Colorado Springs they'll probably be flying to Denver and then taking a bus for a couple of hours to either location. If they're going to El Paso, Albuquerque, or Reno they'll probably have a layover in Los Angeles or Denver. Honolulu also has direct flights to San Jose and Dallas (if Tarleton St joins).how many direct flights exist today from Honolulu to Laramie, Wyoming? Or El Paso? Or Colorado Springs?
Easy to fly from HI to Vegas, b/c EVERYONE (airline) flies to Vegas
a LOT of big west schools are in SoCal - greater LA; no layover to get to SoCal and they could shuttle from school to school
if the scheduling worked well, they very likely STAYED in california vice jetting back and forth across the Pacific
And in YOUR scenario, where is U.Hawai'i going to raise the coin to pay for the MWC schools? Bitcoin? NFTs?
Pretty sure I'm not buying the subsidy argument, provide some current (~2020 - today) language FROM U.H., FROM MWC
look at this years schedule, 7 home games, Del State (EST/EDT), No. Iowa (CST/CDT) 3x MST/MDT schools and 2x PST/PDT schools in footballIf they're going to Laramie or Colorado Springs they'll probably be flying to Denver and then taking a bus for a couple of hours to either location. Hawaii currently helps subsidize MWC football travel right now according to this article. $150K for PT schools and $175K for MT schools.
Perhaps the tourist industry "donates" to U H because 5,000 fans having a holiday in Hawaii and easily spending $1,000 each on airfare, hotels, transport, tours, and food is a lot more revenue than subsidizing the team's travel?

Sam Houston State reportedly not interested in Mtn West.
They should step up. Better travel conditions than The Valley as well. They also have the fan base to support that move as well.NDSU leaving wouldn't hurt my feelings too much.
