It makes total sense for Northern Illinois and Hawaii to be football conference opponents.

Do you think it's quicker to fly west or east from DeKalb to Hawaii?
It's probably at least an hour faster to fly from Honolulu to Chicago than it is from Chicago to Honolulu because of the direction the air moves. When I've flown to Vegas and Denver it's always about 30 minutes faster coming back.

I know your question was a joke, but there's some useless information that you may not have known 😂.

The logistics for football isn't all about the players. Normally programs send 2-3 semis with all of their gear and gameday needs.

That kinda worries me that MVC would then court NIU for all other sports. Please no.
Don’t be worried they won’t. I bet NIU goes to Horizon. Gives them back somewhat of a “Chicago” presence since we took UIC. I’m curious though what Toledo is going to do.

NIU does absolutely nothing for the valley. Market? Nope, we got that covered with UIC and Valpo. And we already have UIC, Bradley, ILSU, and Southern Illinois all in the state of Illinois. Why add another one? Fanbase? nodda, they averaged 902 a game 2 years ago. 1,280 last year and 999 so far this season. Just for reference Valpo is averaging 1,404 this season so far. Metrics/Prestige? Current NET is 351 and i'm sure they've been a 200+ team majority of their existence. They haven't won a single championship (conference regular season or tournament) or gone to an NCAA tournament since 1996. If the MVC adds them the commissioner should be ran out of town

That would back track everything that the Commissioner just said this summer if they are added. I still don’t think they will be added the the MVC.
"Sources say" doesn't mean "the MVC is interested in NIU". It means "NIU is more interesting in the MVC and Horizon/OVC is a backup".

I think we're all in agreement that we don't want NIU. But if you're NIU, you have to at least ask and make the Valley say no before you move to plan b.

100% that's why I brought up that basically Jeff Jackson would be a hypocrite if it were the happen. I'm sure he's going hear them out and that will be the end of it. The only way that's a longer conversation is if they say hey we have Toledo on the line as well. Then maybe that becomes an interesting conversation.

Good point. Dellenger's source is probably an NIU source doing wishful thinking. Like someone mentioned, adding NIU would completely contradict everything the commissioner said over the summer.

It doesn't matter who the MVC adds at this point. The league is toast as far as being relevant. Elgin basically screwed us when the league did nothing back when it was very strong. There were schools like Butler, Western KY, and Murray State sitting out there in weak leagues and it took 15 years to finally get Murray figured out.

That just isn’t true. Idk where the sentiment that MVC is toast even comes from.

I don't know where Sycamorefan96's anti-MVC stuff comes from either. Just 5 minutes before reading his post, I just watched a video where the MVC is 8th in 10-year KenPom ahead of the AAC, WCC, MWC, etc. The analytics and people who are knowledgeable respect the MVC from what I see.

Let me help you guys out.

Bids by MVC, last 10 years:
24= #10 Drake
23= #12 Drake
22= #10 Loyola
21= #8 Loyola, #11 Drake
20= N/A
19= #15 Bradley
18= #11 Loyola
17= #10 Wichita St
16= #11 Wichita St, #11 N Iowa
15= #5 N Iowa, #11 Wichita St

Average Bids= 1.33
Total Bids= 12
Bids by schools no longer in MVC= 6 (50%)
Average Seed= 10.08

So 6 of the past 7 tournaments the MVC has been a one bid league and you can put an asterisk next to 2021 since Drake was the very last team in and the Ivy League didn't play that season. The committee never respects the league anymore. If it did we would have solidly been in last year. I don't care what KenPom or any of these other useless metrics rank the league. At the end of the day, the people at the top that make the actual decisions have shown us what they truly believe.

Fine the MVC is the best one bid league in the country. Happy? Maybe ISU should start selling MVC Flags at the bookstore for all you boys to start flying in your yards. We get the same amount of bids as the Horizon League and you guys are happy about it, and think that the league is nationally relevant and highly respected.

The tournament is also expected to expand to 76 (or 72) over the next few months. That puts us in last year, Northern Iowa in one year, and Illinois State in another year.

Belmont also got an at-large in a 20-something ranked conference about 5 years back.

Access in the 68-team model is quite a bit different than access in the 76-team model that's expected to be announced soon.

And yet magically, the metrics will adjust to where the four power con teams we played in the NIT would have been tournament teams, and we would have been outside looking in.

Basically your made up narrative based on bids. While the MVC has been a 1 big league that hasn’t been completely the NCAA’s fault. Half of those years the 2nd team didn’t didn’t do enough. Last year while we should have been in if you put in context there were the most bid stealers ever and we really shouldn’t have lost to Ill ST. You saying we are happy to be a 1 big league is laughable.
