Why not a Canadian coach. Someone well connected in the elite prep school operation there and currently an assistant at a P6 school. Canada now has 114 players on D1 rosters with more coming every year.

We can hire a Canuck when we shutter the football program and flood Hulman Center to launch a Div I hockey program

Is the HC big enough to have hockey or would they have to tear some seats out?
They have hockey at the Indiana Farmers (former Pepsi) Coliseum where IUPUI plays.

Funny enough, I know several folks in the Haute that drive up there to watch the Fuel play. Minor league hockey is a cash suck though but fun as hell to watch. For Terre Haute to get it, someone with deep pockets would need to love the sport I'd imagine.

Screw the minor leagues .... ISU should adopt the Neb-Omaha model.

Shutter football and replace those scholies with a NCAA Div I men's hockey team -- plenty of talent looking for a ride, far less competition in the state for a fan base

A friend of mine who made millions of bucks by founding one of the first fantasy sports companies once told me, "Mike do you know how to make a multi-millionaire into a millionaire?"
"I dunno, how," I asked.
"Buy a minor league hockey team."

Admittedly, I am new to the Indiana State fanbase - I signed up for the forum after enrolling for the Spring semester.

I can't tell if some of these names are realistic - because at face value they don't seem to be to me. The Winthrop coach and the UNC-G coach come to mind.

Kelsey makes less than Lansing. I only know that because it was brought up in a Lansing salary thread several years ago. Not sure on the UNC-G coach. I'd say a MVC job is more prestigious than a job in Big South and Southern Conference.

The SOCON is basically equal to the MVC today in basketball. It's a really good mid major conference. Wofford, Furman, UNCG, East TN ST, and Chattanooga are all good basketball programs most seasons. They were almost a 3 bid league just a couple of seasons ago.

Let me see a decade plus of success. They have been in the top 15 conference RPI for just the last couple seasons largely on the back of a couple good hires. Prior to that, they were in the MM-/LM+ grouping (16-25) range. They were never getting 3 bids. Mid-major down are all 1 bid leagues in the fixed P5 NCAA system.

Further, football stirs the drink in the South and you're second fiddle at those schools, even at FCS schools. No thanks.

Got it. I follow the Middle Tennessee team pretty closely, and I believe Wes Miller finished second for their job last time around and they are likely going to be on the market again. I think his ceiling is higher.

The Winthrop coach I’m less sure about, but I would guess their record will get him some serious attention.
