KenPom has it as a 1 point loss, 78-77. I’m curious to see how that changes after our stats are updated after today’s game and after Belmont plays Drake tomorrow.

Anyone know how Cam is doing after taking that elbow? I’m guessing he will get the defensive assignment on Sheppard so hope he is ok.

It appears this will be our first ever conference game played in Tennessee. Memphis State left the MVC three years before we joined. We're also the 4th oldest MVC member, and SIU only joined one year before us. Drake and Bradley are by far the oldest members.

Tough one....Belmont has lost one (MVC) home game......Drake in a blowout. We need a win to secure a bye.
You all know this.....tell me how we pull it off. Thanks....

I’m sure our stat guys will be coming in with the actual statistical analysis that will tell a pretty good story. Admittedly I haven’t watched Belmont play but maybe 10 mins all season. I don’t really need too - I’ve seen us enough to know what it will take from us to win any game from here out.

First and foremost really need Henry to be healthy.

Then need to defend at a high level for 40 minutes. I think you’ve got to get really high level defensive effort from Henry, Voss, Neese and Larry. Then you need to see Kent especially come off the bench and give you a nice defensive effort. But we have to play D without fouling - in our losses I feel like fouls and opponents FT attempts have really hurt us. Neese has really been strong on D and rebounding the last several games. Just getting guys to collective communicate, switch and defend is going to be big for the next month of basketball.

I think we need to take care of and share the rock. Typically 14-18 assists and 7-10 turnovers has been a pretty good range for us as far as sharing the ball and making shots. We’ve been at our best when you’re getting contributions from 4 or 5 guys. It can’t just be on Voss to drop 25…

I think our PG production from Larry and Gibson is MASSIVE! Specifically need Larry to really play downhill, play under control, share the ball and play good D. I thought his D last game was pretty loose at times. As was his handle. But we really need he or Gibson to have a good game.

Not sure we absolute need this to win - because of our depth but I would love to see Henry get back involved in the offense as well. Hasn’t scored in double figures in 4 straight games.

And lastly that bench production has really been key in our wins and when we play well… Gibson of late. Kent early on in the season. Bledson early in the season and then especially of late. McKnight has had some moments. Hobbs has been really good when he’s making shots. Where will the production come from I haven’t the slightest but we thrive when we get bench production!

That’s a lot to ask… But I think these are the main traits/factors/players that make us really really difficult to beat.

But mostly I’m just going to savor playing meaningful games down the stretch here as we head into STL. I will not be thrilled with 5th as I think that’s going to make for a really improbable STL run - but it’s been a pretty entertaining season not all is lost no matter the outcome from here out.

Was supposed to be evaluated for a concussion today. Not sure if you caught the Schertz presser, but said he didn't appear to be with it when he came back so that is why he sat the 2nd half. If he has one, he'll be out against Belmont.

The alumni office said there will not be a gathering.
Yes, with enrollment down and cost cutting across the board, there were only a few this year. However the two I attended in Terre Haute were outstanding. Kudos to both the Winery on Wabash and THBC at winter homecoming/alumni weekend. Sad that nothing was planned in Chicago. The events before any Loyola - ISU games were well attended and a shot in the arm for fund raising and alumni involvement. Hoping that next year a good event will be planned somewhere near UIC so that Chicago & Region alums can gather. Valparaiso should also be on that list.

I would have put this in the MSU game thread but there is not one yet. I know there are freshmen-to-be in attendance in the Forrest for the last home game. B51B373E-BB38-4626-B213-B8506695C698.jpeg
