If I was a coach, I would want a job where I had the money to keep my players after spending all my time recruiting and teaching them.
I hear ya, but let's not discount the progress of ISU NIL. $90,000 reported to be dispersed this basketball year, $300,000 anticipated for next basketball season. That's a huge leap.

I wish we knew what other collectives "spent" on men's basketball. Surely $300,000 is a strong showing in the Valley.

Did someone say that we now have 300,000?

I need some clarity from coach…..time to make a decision now. Everyone needs to know. If you want out then get out so we can get on with the process. We have an interm AD that needs to make a decision so we don’t miss out on the next coach to hit the portal to have some chance at a season.
Absolutely

Interesting. So I grow up going to Purdue games my entire life and I drop them because I attended a different school. You guys/gals are funny. You’re such a bigger fan. You got me.
I grew up going to Evansville College games and dropped them the day I started at ISU in 1965.

Absolutley not. Unless that decision is to stay at ISU.

Making an announcement to take a job at another institution, smack dab in the middle of our NIT run…that would be awful.
Didn’t say make the announcement, I’m hoping he tells Angie Lansing his intentions, and she can start listening for a replacement.
I agree he should not make it public at this time.

What is happening to the world? I thought ‘backer was always the one to see the positive in everything??
It's sad, isn't it. College basketball has been ruined.
More than once the courts/judges have told the NCAA they are not allowed to make rules for their members.
I think the only way to curb a complete authoritarian takeover is a violent rebellion.

This is my own beliefs: Coach Schertz most likely has agreed with SLU, but has not signed the contract ??? Why
1- in the last 2 weeks other opportunities have come up don't forget he's good friends with Coach May at Michigan. who grew up not to far from Terre Haute, and was coach at his alma mater Florida Atlantic
2-this is what I hope he thinks, 2nd thoughts about coming back, big increase in his salary, he's seen how the community has raised their level of support for the program, how the culture has changed, we go to 3 to 4 thousand attendance, to now SELLOUTS and being on NATIONAL TV. The community has not been like this since the Bird years. Could you imagine all the publicity we would get next year ???
3- Run it back next year, sellouts, national TV, ranking in top 25 beginning of season.
4- This option I hope I am wrong, MONEY< MONEY MONEY

I do think that #3 is a big point, and unless we have a really solid NIL increase, #3 seems tough to do.

At least from what I've heard floating around is that at least part of the hesitation about staying at ISU comes as much from NIL resources as much as salary.

I don't really have an issue with people cheering for more than one school as long as their school comes first. Like for example I root for both ISU and EIU. I've been an ISU fan my whole life, because of my dad who is an alum; and I started following EIU when I was in middle school. The only reason I started following EIU was because they are kind of local, and my dad and I are huge FCS football fans, so when ISU was on the road we'd go over to Charleston and watch them play.

Outside of a dual credit course I took in high school, if that even counts, I've never taken a class at ISU. ISU did send me a student ID and a T shirt so there's that, and I (or rather my parents lol) had to pay for the class. I root for ISU mainly because they are my hometown's division 1 team and my father's alma mater.

With that said I have absolutely zero interest in ever donating to NIL. At the end of the day I am a fan of the school and will support in buying tickets, concessions, merchandise, traveling to certain away events, etc; but the whole NIL thing is a step too far for me. If I wanted to go root for a school that had NIL money flowing out their ears I could go root for Purdue, Notre Dame, IU, or Illinois just as easily (like most of Terre Haute does lbr), but I view those programs as professional minor league schools, not true collegiate programs.

I realize basically everyone on here wants ISU to be successful, but at what cost? I certainly won't take any pride in attempts to turn ISU into Kentucky-lite. If a majority of the team going forward are just guys that are here because of what we can pay them, then that's a major turn off for me as a local fan. I understand guys transferring to an extent if there's a coaching turnover or they aren't getting as much playing time as they'd like; got it. But knowing that someone is here only because they are getting $50K a year and a car is just pure garbage. At that point the name on the front of the jersey means nothing and the name on the back of the jersey is all that matters.
