Guys and gals, I understand that this hurts, but from my perspective ( alumni not from Terre Haute) this is an administration failure. When Sherard was made the scapegoat for the Baseball debacle this was the only likely outcome. I graduated in 2006, all I have known is inept leadership at the university and city level. Ones that live there have a better understanding, but 18 years an alumni I can tell you how many times I’ve been actively approached to donate money. ZERO. At the MVC tourney this year, the most aggressive fundraising I encountered was a postcard (pen not provided) to submit my information to donate. Coach Schertz made the decision to leave, but what did we really think was going to happen when the highest paid employee at the university didn’t know who his AD or president was going to be going forward? This is my opinion, but at our level, having enough success to lose your coach is a good thing. Blaming the coach for leaving is blaming the wrong person. Personally, I will thank Coach Schertz and these players for giving me a season that brought positive attention to the university. No one ever asks me about Indiana State. Yet, this year they did. This team and this coach did that, with little to no help from the institution. As a group, we’re vilifying the wrong people.
