I was a big supporter of Lansing and I think he will land a good coaching position soon, but now that he's gone, I have listened to what our new coach has said and I do like it. I think that the style of play he wants to run will help a lot in recruiting. He can say, ' come play with us and if you work hard, you'll be scoring 15ppg, easy'. That could easily get an 18 year old's attention and sway him away from other schools. What worries me is that Ron Greene and Tates Locke sounded good at the beginning, too. Then the games started and they steadily drained the program of its soul. I thought Shellhase was shown the door way too early. He had an offense where scoring 90 was very common and it was great fun to watch. I loved those years - Rick Fields, John Sherman Williams, Mark Golden. He got several Indiana All-Stars to come to ISU. We don't get many of those. He just didn't get to stay long enough to get a chance to see if it would succeed.
We will be awful the first year. I don't think there's any way around that. We'll see how he copes with an awful W-L record to begin with. Versace had a horrible record at Bradley the first year but turned things around very well. Maybe he's the guy who can do that. I'm going to wait until at least the third season to make a judgment. It will be mostly the players he wants and the system should start to fire on all cylinders by then, if it's going to.

I've been hearing that Lansing has been encouraging / helping players on our team leave. Based on a tweet by LaRavia it sounds like it might be true. If that's the case then I'm glad Lansing is gone. I was one of the few that ultimately wanted ISU to keep him, but that's the same nonsense that Marty Simmons pulled at Evansville after they sent him packing.

that is really pathetic if Lansing is encouraging players to leave. I thought he said something like he would always support Indiana state and Terre Haute, and that it was just a business decision. Sure, I can understand how many of the players felt, its very emotional when coach gets the ax or his contract has expired, and he recruited u, but please don't bad mouth the university.

Question.....If they want to leave and have faith in GL, why wouldn't they ask his opinion????? He's still coach to them.
That said.....I would hope that he isn't actively undermining the program. Knowing GL, I find that a stretch.

That is completely false. First, Odum was telling the players to keep their options open after the whole situation. Lansing had nothing to do with players putting their name in the transfer portal. And that was the smart thing to do from a individual standpoint. It doesn’t necessarily mean that they all would be leaving. The only thing Lansing did was just answer questions the Wake Forrest Coach had about Jake. But it was JL decision to move on.
Dude you wanted GL here to start the season. Then wanted him gone 10 games in. Then wanted him to stay. Then were pissed he was gone. Now glad he’s gone.
Consistency matters.
I am consistent. I wanted him here if he was winning. I also don't appreciate him helping our players ditch the program after the fact. Definitely not a "Sycamore for life" if it's true.

I've said from the start if he had a winning overall record and a winning MVC record we should keep him. When we were 1-5 MVC I was ready to send him down the road. I didn't think there was any way we'd end up winning 11 of our next 13 games.
But again I don't appreciate Lansing taking calls from Mr Wake Forest and giving info on LaRavia. Tell him to watch his games on ESPN+ if he wants info on him and say no more.
I get it. LaRavia thinks he's some hotshot. Real loyal too. Left Edwardsville to come here and now he's leaving here too. But let him throw our program under the bus on his own. Don't help him do it.
You and others don’t understand the process... I mean no disrespect. But you trying to call out a player and former coach for his role in helping (or not) his players find a landing spot is nothing short of ridiculous.
Why? Because you don’t have any idea what it’s like to have that athletic talent and commit yourself to a school/coach and have that world ripped away from you. People pretending like they know what that is like or trying to undermine the optics of how all that went down is absurd. You’re not the only one who feels this way so I get it... But it’s a highly emotional and irrational take.
I’ve said this before and I will say it again... Quit being mad at the players - if you hate this be mad at the system. Look at the transfer portal and look at the caliber of players in that portal. The NCAA created this l o n g before GL got let walk. It’s a horrible system for mid majors. A horrible system for transfers. And a horrible system for coach’s who are marginally successful.
I’ve been reading your posts if you’d like I can go back and show the inconsistency. You wanted him gone. You wanted him here. You wanted him extended. And now you want him gone forever. Own it! You never knew where you stood and that’s okay! Blame the NCAA for your confusion.

Then this year after we embarrassed ourselves at MSU and looked worse than some SWAC teams I figured we would be lucky to win 10 games all year. Each time though I said if he somehow led ISU to a winning record and winning MVC record he should get kept / receive a small extension. I don't believe in playing a lame duck season like we just did, all because ISU is too cheap to find ~$250K.

It's not so much that ISU is cheap; it's that most of the donors who could have afforded his buy-out were fans of Lansing's. The donors, fans who wanted him GONE were unwilling OR unable to pay for the buyout.

Amazing after all these years of discussion that some of these facts were not abundantly clear. Everyone was on the table for anyone who wanted pay attention to what was going on. It wasn't Todd Golden and the Tribune Star pointing any of this out - it was this forum where it was explained the how, why, what, when if etc.
But I'm ready to move on - I'm excited to see what JS can do for Indiana State. I hope some of those donors give him a chance as well - I understand and respect that it will take them time to get to that point. But some of these people and families have been supporters of the program for a long long time.
Just pure speculation but do you think with the Moser moves Lansing finds his way in Norman or up for the road in the Windy City? Him and Porter seemed like good buds and it wouldn’t surprise me if Loyola would want an assistant with a lot of experience to help with Valentine. But then again people always talk about his wifes gig out west; maybe he will just lay low for a while.
The rumor for a long time was that he was offered a scouting gig in the Phoenix Suns organization. If that is indeed true and with his wife working in Scottsdale, that would seem like a no brainer.
