ok, so ISU finally has a game (at home even) against a team that should be an equal. Both are among the 5 worst teams in all of college FB, any division.

So, what can we expect this weekend?

1. Can the ISU offensive line give Schmidtke and Dowdell enough time to throw some good, accurate passes w/o there being interceptions? (hate to see the QB's constantly running for their lives every game)

2. Can the offensive line open up some holes for ISU's running backs to gain positive yardage?

3. Can the defensive line stop the SEMO running backs and force SEMO to punt every now and then?

4. Is the ISU secondary fast enough to stop SEMO from throwing deep passes for TD's.

5. Will ISU score a touchdown finally?

6. Will ISU's kickers/punters be a little more accurate against lesser pressure?

7. Will there be more than 2000 people at the game? (actual people, not tickets sold)

8. Maybe SEMO will suffer some injuries during the game since they don't know where all the "bad spots" are on the turf.

If there were EVER a chance to end this 17 game losing streak this weekend is IT, otherwise I seriously believe ISU could be looking at extending this losing streak to over 30 games.

OK, so what do you all think?

IF AND I EMPHASIZE A BIG IF they don't give the ball away due to numerous fumbles and/or interceptions, they have a chance to win this one. If, however, they continue to do those things they will lose big again.

This will be a tough game. More then what people think. This semo team looks improved from last years squad. Mo St beat them like 56-12 last year and if their offense didn't give them two and special teams didn't give them one then they could have beat the bears this year. Also they only gave up 300 of offense to a high powered Mo St offense. And gained around 450. One bright spot is that their starting RB and FB got hurt last week so they might be out this week.

On another note I will be at the game to say hello to Coach McGuire. I routed for Coach Mac last year but will be hopeing for a good game from the Sycamores this weekend.

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE ISU to win this weekend, obviously.

But take a look at SEMS's stats...

Looks like a team that knows how to score, at the very least.

I'd like to think that our schedule has been much more difficult thus far than theirs. Maybe that'll mean that our guys will be well prepared to deal with SEMO, and we'll actually score a TD this time. Gee, what would happen if we scored several TD's? Does the scoreboard allow for double digit scores?

Hmmm...:krazy:

I don't expect a win, but a win is desperately needed and possible. I know it's going to take Trent at least two seasons to whip this program into shape, but let's face it. He needs to get a win or two now to build even the slightest amount of support outside this forum. There are a lot of people ready and waiting to cheer for this team. They just don't see any hope at this point. A win Saturday would be a nice step in the right direction.

The RB and FB will not matter. Look at the numbers of their quarterback. 4 games in to the season and he is over 1100 yards with 8 TD's and throwing close to 35-40 passes per game...

Aerial bombardment to commence in t-minus 2 days.

here are a couple preview articles from the SE Missourian newspaper. I'm not so sure ISU wins this game either, but just to be competitive would help no doubt. Otherwise, like I said, we could be looking at 30+ losses in a row before ISU picks up a win.

I also agree great post. I think almost all of us have calmed down the optimism by this point in the season and are realizing that we may very well be another year/year and a half away from winning a game against a good FCS team.

It just isn't in the cards right now. So improvement is all anyone can ask.

couldn't have said it any better myself, I'd be happy with ISU scoring a touchdown tomorrow, even if that's all they did.

game notes are up, looks like Dowdell will start the game, until he fumbles or throws an interception I'd guess.

Todd Golden weighs in with his thoughts on the ISU-SEMO matchup too, saying it's a "must win" for ISU.

I wish he would have shared more on why it's a "must" win. I agree, but would like to hear his reasoning. If it's just that it's ISU's best chance for a win this year then OK. I think it goes beyond that. I think for this program to really grow it needs a win now.

bent, I would guess it's because the ISU schedule is very difficult the rest of the way, so TG probably thinks a loss tomorrow means ISU likely goes winless (0-12) for 2008, then with Louisville and Tulsa (and prob. EIU) being the 1st 3 games of 2009, that would put the losing streak at 29 games.

also, he may think for the sanity of the players they need a win. I sure hope Miles has done some solid convincing to these kids that it will take time and they need to "stay the course" and not bail out and transfer if the season does end 0-12.

I think a win tomorrow would instantly give the team a huge lift and confidence boost and maybe even get them one more "surprise win" somewhere down the line this season.

Needless to say, there's alot riding on this game Saturday, so if you're near TH, get out and watch! (I still can't believe it's on local TV though).

SEMO's defense is suspect too, so I sure hope ISU scores a TD.

Good to see ISU has sold more season tickets too (according to the Trib Star).

Come on, CC, haven't you heard that televising our games locally doesn't have any effect on the crowd? Zero, zip, nada...we've been told that for years as WTWO televises every decent basketball game at HC...:censored:

Not that the crowd for this football game would be very large anyway...:eek7:

That, unfortunately, will take time, and wins, and is a much worse situation than what we face with the basketball team...:meditate:

SEMO game notes

here are the notes from SEMO

SEMO game notes

SEMO has been outscored 52-0 in the 1st quarter this year, need to jump on them early and score a TD. Their All-OVC running back is also out for suspension. They do have a good passer though.
