Honestly, after being one of the last 6 teams playing last year (late portal start) and not having a coach (or an AD to hire a coach) and losing the entire roster this is absolutely what we should have expected.

Barring a miracle turnaround, I expect them to go into this offseason and be aggressive.

Be aggressive with what?

How will we be aggressive? We have chump change to spend....and the money we have we spend on a Harding. We caught lightning in a bottle in the last year a mid major could put together a team full of talent with a small NIL fund. It got us to the NIT final, which was a fun ride and an environment in Hulman Center I will always cherish, but didn't get the coveted NCAA birth. It will be a miracle if we ever get something close to what we had with way college sports are now.

Greatness oftentimes is a byproduct of effort. The objective is for the player to always give maximum effort. If you execute the designed play incorrectly or make a mistake in your responsibilities, the job of coaches is to fix that. What coaching can rarely correct is effort....that is within the heart of each and every player.

Buuuut, if you can't shoot worth a broke dick (17% from 3????) at this point in your basketball life, there's usually not much coaching can do for you.

Valid points. Previous coach had 11 total wins & 4 conference wins his 1st year.

My expectations were raised after a 3-1 conference start, but are now lowered. Middle of the pack (hopefully). Just want to continue to see improvement, & hope the seniors have some fun.

Will be fun to see how the off-season unfolds.

Oh my, your idea of fun is.......interesting. LOL. It was torture for me watching players leave and having to build a whole new team.....and looks like we will likely do it all again.

I mean we are who we are… Not very good. We knew that though.

I can’t believe how much the officials let 3 and 6 just set moving ball screens - it was incredible did it the entire game and got away with it.
We don’t have the grit anymore to play a complete 40 minutes against Drake, but the moving screen thing is something else. I was screaming the whole first half about them moving, giving them open lanes and wide open 3’s. Then, later in the 2nd half they whistle then twice for illegal screens. Like, they didn’t change the way they were setting them AFTER they were whooping our ass. As a ref, you have to whistle that shit early, not let a team set the tone and get a big lead, then say hey we have some guys moving all of the sudden.

Again, I’m not blaming this loss of refs…this is for any game in general…you can’t let a team do something the whole first half and get a lead, then decide to call it late in the game.

You are comparing 2 different scenarios. Off-season following an average or below average season can be enjoyable (depending on who leaves & who is acquired).

Off-season following a historically successful season with near complete turnover is gut wrenching.

For example, off-season following year 1 & year 2 of former coach was enjoyable to follow. Off-season following year 3, ouch.

Reasons to believe we will improve, or at least it's possible to improve, during this off-season.

No we ain’t winning that game regardless but you can’t let that shit go on the entire game - that’s incredible.

I’ve got enough to be frustrated with our own team - I don’t enjoy getting beat. But that was about as poorly officiated game as I’ve seen in awhile. We didn’t have a foul in the first 12 minutes of the game and Drake had 3 in an incredibly physical half - get the fuck outta here.

Thats fair. And i wish i had the same view. I just don't see much success when you have to completely rebuild year after year. I don't forsee many players staying after this year....hell, maybe that's for the best who knows. It's hard to expect much improvement though when you hear how important it is to have continuity and corporate knowledge with this type of system, but you have to overhaul the roster each spring.

Arch podcasters noted that officiating across the Valley is poor. They discussed this for a few minutes on a recent podcast. The game is def more enjoyable with a consistent & competent whistle.

Still can't believe they stopped ISU's 5-2 fast break.

I hear you, lots of unknowns.

Hopefully ISU often has success retaining quality performing players for 2 or 3 years.

This type of officiating has been going on for DECADES; in most, all of the Div I conferences - none of it is new

but I agree - the "refs" set the tone for how a game is played - always have, always will

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Drake utilized a pair of early runs in both the first and second half on their way to pulling away from host Indiana State on Saturday evening inside the Hulman Center, 71-53.

Boy, if the football team ever lost 6 of their last 7, including a 53 point beat down by an unranked opponent, you'd never hear the end of it on here. Some people on this board say they won't support football because it's "D2". Meanwhile the basketball team just got their butts handed to them at home by an actual D2 team wearing Drake's colors, and "NW MO State" might very well win the conference this year.
