Did I miss something? We went from feeling good as a program to sky is falling in about 5 game minutes. We will be fine. Only glaring mistake is doubling on D and some frustratingly sloppy turnovers. UNI didn't have AJ Green tonight; valpo still sucks. Sometimes I think sycamorepride would be more accepting if we just got our asses beat every game, because thats what it looked like was going to happen before the season. But we have put out a pretty damn competitive team and it's had its frustrating moments but it's tough to say that we haven't exceeded expectations at this point in the year

No no. You did miss something because you read two posters and jumped to a conclusion that the sky was falling. Myself being one of them and no the sky doesn’t fall - you have to actually have set a ceiling for that to be the case so… We have no ceiling so the sky can’t possibly be falling anyway.

You thought everyone felt good about the program because people have been hesitating to question the program - because we have a new coach. We lost players via portal. We lost key. We lose an entire roster to Covid.

That is why people have not passed judgment and fairly so… But UNI lost to Valpo - both teams suck. SIU sucks. The sky isn’t falling we’re one of the worst teams in a shitty league. It’s fine.

Sometimes I wonder if people like you realize this is a message board - where real time emotions hit the fan. It’s literally part of the message board experience but you act like it’s a total foreign concept. If these reactions didn’t exist and just sensible/chill/understanding reactions like the one you shared then what would be the point of this platform????? Not sure which is more perplexing? Well on second thought don’t answer that.

We’re picked 9th in the MVC and after this loss…we’re 9th in the MVC.

I enjoy this team more than the team we had the last couple of years. Things were stale. I do believe we will be ok. I do believe we will get some good Indiana kids who can shoot down the road. I’m not going to ride any of our kids because they don’t deserve it. Coach Schertz is going to be just fine. We went stone cold and they finally hit shots at the end and that was the game.

you might end up being right… This conference looks more like the Lincoln Memorial Conference he came from every day.

Remember when the Valley had WSU and Creighton and soon to be Loyola. You’re right - he is going to be fine against the SIU and Evansville’s of the world!

We’ve only beaten 5 D1 teams this year. That’s a sobering reality. I see lots of promise in the system and with the coaches, but we just don’t have the Jimmy’s and the Joe’s this year. Schertz said as much in the post game interview. He kept referring to how limited we are athletically and talent-wise and how the margin for error is razor thin.

I certainly think the coaching could be better, and especially in this game, but this roster just doesn’t have enough Valley-caliber players.

On purpose. A winning program blown up on purpose by Clink and Curtis much to the delight of many on this board. And here we are.

Hooper, I know we don’t agree on this, but let’s spell this out.

Yes, I am fine with where we are at. Of course a few more of these conference games would have been great, but I’m good with this staff/roster vs. what GL had returning.

Can you honestly tell me you would rather have this team led my GL offensive creativity?
Larry
Neese
LaRavia
Stephens
Williams
Cobie Barnes
Jared Hankins
Hittle
Lincoln Hale
Drew Calderon

That roster right now maybe had you at 10-7 at best vs where we are now. 5 out of those 10 players are not D1 level.

Key isn’t playing on that roster either, so we need to stop pretending the roster Lansing had returning was something stellar.

We've been competitive in all Valley games so far. We knew wins would be hard to come by this year even under "normal" conditions . We have had a lot of bad luck with COVID/injuries. This game tonight was decided by a couple of desperation three pointers off of scramble situations. Those were tough back breaking shots and broke the game open. Credit to their shooters. Sucks to lose.

Yeah, I'm fine with taking our lumps and growing.

Obviously execution is bad, but the doubling is a game plan decision and it makes zero sense. Larry was handling Domask all night and did not need the help. We have to quit respecting these Valley players like they are something special. There are probably only 2, maybe 3 big men you really need to double in the post because they have great post moves... the rest are serviceable at best. Play 'em heads up and tough and if the shot falls, fine.

SIU was 7-14 from 3 in the 2nd half. Most of those were wide open 3s. They hit one more shot than we did in that half. The coaches lost this game tonight.

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois held Indiana State to its season-low in points during a 63-55 loss Wednesday night at the Banterra Center in Carbondale. ISU scored just 24 points in the second half after trailing 32-31 at the break, falling to 8-9 on the season and 1-4 in Missouri Valley Conference action.

=/- Report for game at SIU. SIU 63 vs ISU 55
Cameron Henry did not play due to ankle injury. All other DNP's are coaches decisions I believe.
I too have been wondering what happened to Cam Crawford. I doubt he would be abused defensively any worse than Micah Thomas.

Murray State and Belmont have both historically been way better than Loyola. Loyola has only had like 2 tournament bids in the past 30 years. Wichita is 0-2 in the tournament since they left and one of those was to Drake.

1-4 is a bummer record, but two of those losses have been to Loyola and most teams will lose both of their games to Loyola. Our other two losses have been on the road, which is completely normal in The Valley.

I still think we can finish with a .500 record in The Valley…which is perfectly fine with me in Schertz’s first season.

With all that being said, gotta win our home games!

can anyone make this claim? He's 0-1 vs SIU and unknown vs. Eville...

lets see how it plays out for this broken egg season

We REALLY need more positive production out of Cooper Neese in his 40 minutes. His scoring has gone down and he seems to be more turnover prone. He and Thomas have to give us more!

Did he drive to the hoop any? Earlier this season, his mix of being a penetration threat helped keep distance between his defender. He's seemingly strayed from this formula. Wonder if he's completely over the Covid flu? Also, anyone know where Hobbs stored his game last night? He and Thomas BOTH need to be wearing those headbands! Fouled out in 16 'frigg'n minutes? Geeesh...

I'm not a basketball guru, but IMHO the Sycamores need to clean up unforced errors...i.e. ridiculous turnovers. On half of their turnovers Wednesday they looked like they were out of control and careless. Perhaps as Todd Golden mentioned in his "Five Things" article, this is due to players still learning positioning and passing lanes. Therefore, I hope they can improve in this area. Where I see them struggling to improve, however, is in simply shooting the basketball. It seems that other teams in the Valley we've faced have 1-2 players with the ability to both knock down repetitive shots or create their own shot. Right now, we struggle to do both of these things, and I don't know that coaching can improve either of those things.
