And then he picks Minnesota to win it. If we win against TT, the game against Minnesota will be a tough one...

And then he goes on to say:

"Potential matchup I'd like to see: Minnesota-Texas Tech. This semifinal game would pit two former Kentucky coaches in Tubby Smith against Billy Gillispie. Those two coaches love defense, so scoring could be at a premium in a game like this."

We really need to go down there and beat some people...........like three teams of people.

I dont think Minnesota is THAT good...

I don't know if they're that good, but whenever I see a Minnesota team, I see size....and a lot of it. Unless we have players who are willing to sacrifice themselves inside, we will not beat M.

An example is, I'm a huge JP fan, but the thing that holds JP back from playing at another level is guts. I'll call it the way I see it, JP is afraid of action, elbows, and getting fouled.

That lack of fortitude really hurt us against Syracuse on one particular play...JP had an open 10' shot on the baseline. Pressure closed quickly on him, but he had options. One was a pump fake to get one of those bigs from Syracuse off his feet, and pull a Reggie Miller, or secondly pump fake and drive and do a reverse layup....he did neither, and opted to pass the ball out and play it safe.

Play it safe for what? Tomorrow? To beat Minnesota we're going to have to mix it up inside and let 'er rip....and JP is one of the key players that can make that happen as a Senior.

If we see JP bleed this year and get stitches, a 25 win season is not on unreachable, and neither is a win over Minnesota.

Do you think he's capable of that? Has he ever been asked to do any of that?

Although I agree with your comments about him - he's simply not that type of a player. He's a 3 point shooter and that's what he is. He can't really create his own shot, sure he can run off picks and he can shoot of the bounce if he has to - but it's not his game. JP is a key player for us this year, but he's not going to play outside of himself, he knows what he's capable of doing and he plays within himself - what you get is what you get...

I think Jake Kitchell will get alot of action in that game if or when we get there. I think Burnett could be a defensive game-changer for us if he can guard the 3 immediately (if he doesnt redshirt)...Well you know I am not sure there was a game last year where I thought, "man we are so much bigger than this team, throw it in lets out man them." I would worry more if we were facing a team that could match our perimeter talent because that's not something we are used to.

I agree with you 100% SSoM. He was recruited to do one thing: make it rain from behind the arc. If I remember correctly, he missed a layup or two last year that should have been gimmes. But his game isn't inside the 3-point line. He is our Peja Stojakovic.

Myles can bang around in there with the big guys. Carl plays big because of his leaping ability anyway. Now if Kitchell can hang tough and RJ can bulk up, we can at least not become a pushover in the paint.

Come on guys, lets not totally underestimate our post play. Post play was a major reason we won in St. Louis last March...

St. Louis was a different Myles Walker - point blank. lol That dude was probably the #1 reason that we were able to win the entire thing. Jake Odum was huge no doubt, but had Myles Walker not played like he did vs. WSU we probably would have been going home. Shows us what? No I in team - no doubt!

Yes, yes, and yes....I agree with your and SSOMs counterpoints....the point I was making isn't JP changing his game, it's JP being the game changer.

If he can pull the trigger on that one special play, you have to do it, even if it fails. If you can identify one thing that's lost from the risk, I'll name three that are gained.

If he stays one-dimensional, that's what he stays and that's a no brainer for the opposing teams to plan against, but what if he can bring that one surprise every game, or every other game? It will lift the players on the floor and on the bench, and it sure as hell will lift the fans!!! And not only does he raise the play on the floor, he sure in the hell screws up everyone on the opposing team, including the coaches. Can you imagine all the yelling and finger-pointing on the opposing teams?

Like I said, what is he saving himself for, his Senior year?
