Food for thought:
ISU’s fiscal year ends June 30, 2021. So does Greg Lansing’s contract.
His contract is for $252,580, or $21,048 per month.
He will probably coach the remainder of the season which ends with the MVC tourney in March.
He will then have 3 months remaining on his contract or $63,000.

The NCAA recruiting periods are:
A. Nov 13, 2020 - March 31, 2021
B. April 8, 2021 - April 21, 2021

If we wait until the end of June to hire a new coach, he will miss the above recruiting periods, right?

Or, can we honor Lansing’s contract. Reassign him for three months. And hire a new coach right after the MVC tourney so the new coach can take advantage of the above recruiting periods?

Or, it’ll never happen because we can’t even afford the $63,000!!!

Wasn't THIS the same logic that Ron Prettyman used in elevating GL to HC from Asst, after K-Mac opted to join Altman @ Oregon?

Not sure if it’s the same. If McKenna left on his own accord, then we didn’t have to pay the remainder of his contract.

Typically coaches are fired in March once their team finishes up. If we move on from Lansing, you could expect the Sycamores to do the same. At that point, Lansing wouldn't be reassigned, he'd just be paid out and on his way.

If the Sycamores waited that long, you need to call for the dismissal for anyone in the decision-making process. It is just about the current recruiting cycle, but you have to meet individually with every current player and basically determine whether they will be a fit in your system, if they even want to stay, help with releases and finding new spots (if you're a coach that does that), etc. Then you also have to do that with your new signees that aren't on campus. Then start recruiting immediate need bodies for next year. That time is vital for laying the groundwork for next year's roster.

If I was a coach brought in late and didn't have the time to do this, I'd damn well want an extra year on the back end or more money since I'm basically going to have a mulligan season. Implementing a new system, new culture AND having to deal with roster issues going into year 2? Nah man, I'm not hip on that.

His contract expires end of March, not end of June.

I've applied for an HC job before. I applied at North Texas a few years ago to be the new football coach. I was going to apply to be SEMO's new basketball coach back in March, but never got it done. If the ISU job opens up I will probably go through the application process just to be rejected.

In that case... I'm defiantly going to opt out. Good information!

I've withdrawn my intent to apply. No need to discuss with the wife - probably easier.

Not sure ISU will be looking for a head baseball coach soon but keep an eye peeled for that opening

I had a buddy years ago (back in the 90's) apply to be the manager of the Toronto Blue Jays as a gag. Never played organized baseball a day in his life. He actually got a ding letter from the Blue Jays on their letterhead. He has it framed and it hangs in his office to this day.

I was hoping I'd get one of those from North Texas. When I filled out the online form though it automatically told me that based on the info I entered that I probably wasn't qualified to be the coach. Maybe I'll get lucky and ISU or some other school will send me one, one of these days.
