JS doesn’t know it yet but Kent is one of his best 5 players. Dude can go.

I want to see us play someone first… I’m not going to get ahead of myself but this team has some guys that are a problem.

I’m not sure if we really will play anybody decent until the conference opener with Drake. Duquesne is okay, but that’s after the Drake game. Here’s the KenPom rankings for our remaining non-con opponents:

North Dakota State - 205
East Carolina - 245
Trinity Christian - NR
Miami (OH) - 280
Southern Indiana - 238
Duquesne - 127
Northern Illinois - 291

We need to beat East Carolina in the first round of the Gulf Coast Showcase so we can get a game with Toledo. They’re 77 and would be a solid game.

Toledo just handled conference USA champ UAB. They will be a problem.

Good win, had the edge from tip to buzzer! That Ball st. team has some pieces and will do OK in their league, ill take a fairly low stress victory over them..

Positives- thought our offense flowed well and produced tons of good looks. We have a ton of guys who can shoot it and pass it, makes it fun to watch and hard to guard.
- depth proved big again as Larry and Kent gave us big lifts off the bench. I think they both end up playing big roles for us this yr whether starting or not bc they are probably our best 2 defenders on a team that needs it.
- aggressive Coop was back in the first half, gotta have it or he might as well sit. Some slick passes and moves around the rim as well that you usually don't see from him

Negatives: 2nd game in a row we've let a guard torch us. Coleman is a nice player, but giving up almost a 30 piece to him isn't good. Gibson and Neese allow a lot of guys to get downhill on them . Playing them together against good offenses will be something to watch if they can't sure it up.
-Cade got like 2 minutes of PT and fell down or or about fell down on every defensive possession. I'm praying that is due to the lack of conditioning bc we'll need him or robbie at some point to be taken seriously. Kailex did a fine job for what he can do, but at the end of the day we need some more size in certain spots.

A lot to like, on to the next one!!

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Five different Sycamores scored in double figures Saturday afternoon as Indiana State defeated Ball State, 83-71, inside the Hulman Center.

Hell! When’s the last time the football and basketball team have won on the same day?? Jason????? Anybody????????

Including the football program in ANY “when is the last time” is fucking obnoxious I’m sorry. Send Jason a personal foul message for cursing. Our football program has been a joke for the most of my adult life - who cares.

Just got back home from the game, my 2 cents

Thank god for the new scoreboard and ribbons! They really enhance the gameday experience, sound is better too, now if we could only get a new PA announcer, ugh....

McCauley is a man among boys out there, he's bigger, faster and stronger than everyone, very impressed with his play, he's gonna be really good in his only year here

Kent - the guy is really smooth, nice player and a nice shot, reminds me of Greg Graham when he played for IU, another great add by JS

Neese - great to see him shoot again after doing nothing vs Green Bay, he had some really good dribble drive fakes that wound up going in.

Gibson - really nice player, drives the basket and gets easy layups, again, going to be really good for us

Stephens - had an off shooting game, but saved us hitting FTS

Larry - becoming more impressed with his floor leadership, keeps things under control and scored some key points late in the game, also really like him as a player, has a great attitude, saw him many times help BSU players up off the floor and congratulate them on good plays, just a very positive person and that's good to see. He's not looking to showboat or get in opponent players' faces

Henry - solid game, again, will be really good for us

Bledson - I thought he would play more than he did, but he was effective when he was in, had a nice 3 on his first shot I think

Miller and McKnight really didn't play much so not much to say on my behalf

it's just so refreshing to see ISU play under this JS system, this is the anti prior coach way of playing, we're moving the ball around faster, making better thread the needle passes (there were many today), and hitting layups.

I really think regardless of whether we win or lose games this year we won't get blown out by anyone like we used to, I think the days of 20 and 30 point blowout losses are a thing of the past as long as JS is here.

One last thing too....We had a halftime show!! FRISBEE DOGS! That was great!

Nov 21, 1998. Football blew out Denver Johnson and his Murray State Racers ruining their playoff bid....then later that night ISU basketball blew out Barry Collier's Butler team. I was Sports Editor of the Statesman then and was at both games.

I was also thinking…this was a game we would have lost last year. There were many times when we got up to a decent lead and let the opponent chip away and ultimately give it up. Today, we took Ball State’s punches and didn’t back down. That rarely happened last year.

The only negative I will throw out there is that the ISU Spirit Team is pathetic. They need new young leadership to put some hops in them. About the worst group "performing" in years. That is all.
