Generally, I don't put the +/- out here for a blowout similar to the game with Hanover. But, Hanover is a D3 opponent and ODU was favored in this game.

Larry played 39 minutes and he & Micah Thomas were on the floor together for all of Thomas' 22 minutes of action. This is an interesting development as it gives Larry 3-4 high quality perimeter shooters to find but does make us pretty small.

Player..............................Minutes.....................................=/-
Larry...................................39............................................+38 (remained on floor for last six minutes with Wilbar, Mervis, Crawford and Hittle at -7 for that run)
Stephens..........................22.............................................+38 (very impressive!!)
Neese................................30...............................................+44 (also very impressive)
Thomas............................22................................................+21
Henry................................27...............................................+45 (Off the charts impressive)
Crawford..........................6.................................................-7
Mervis...............................6..................................................-7
Wilbar...............................6.................................................-7 (Needs to be better because he and/or Hittle will be needed)
Hobbs.............................20................................................+33 (Also very impressive)
Tucker............................20.................................................+14 Seems to be getting more comfortable on the floor
Hittle...............................6.....................................................-7 (Same as Wilbar; showing ability to stretch the floor which is currently his biggest asset)

It’s not really an interesting development - the only reason it happened was that Bledson was out sick. That’s the reason for the development.

Beyond that - we’re going to see a lot of small lineups this year. The reason for that interesting development is well we’re a small team.

Boys, that was one of the best games I’ve ever attended in person. We absolutely dominated them in every possible way. I never sat down and gave ODU shit until the final buzzer!

Can’t wait for Oklahoma!

Let’s be honest… You’ve attended several games over the past seasons where you were on the ODU end of things?! Our luck had to change at some point - law of averages finally caught up to us.

Enjoy the golf game today! Cheers

Seems to me we have a lot of ODU's in the MVC this year. I hope this game was a sign of things to come.

ODU used to be good in the past, so I was actually expecting us to lose this game. The 9:30 start time was too late for me and I was already in bed by the time it started. Couldn't believe the score when I woke up and checked it at 2 AM. It's nice to see us blow out a D1 team and not let up throughout the game.

I had a dream last night that we beat a Conference USA team by 41 points. One of our players even had a double-double at halftime.

You’re right. It was like an exorcism last night. Honestly, one of the greatest times I’ve had at a basketball game. Met some nice other ISU fans including some player’s parents, too.

I look forward to doing it again this afternoon!

After watching this game, I almost hate to burn years of eligibility for Peterson and Crawford.
I'm wondering how much need we have for them and how much impact they can have.

But you've been around long enough and seen ISU hopes flushed following seasonal injuries. Recall Carl Macon, Larry Deakins, Brian Canada & Jim Trout during the early 70's? This squad in particular is dependent upon their backcourt depth given the uptempo pace of JS. Plus, he's stated that "different teams will see different looks from ISU."

What is your prediction for how many minutes/game Larry and Thomas will spend on the floor together going forward? Certainly Bledson being out affected things but he was not out for the Purdue game.

My comments from the Purdue Game which is the first time we saw the coaches dabble in this pairing of Larry & Thomas in competitive action: Perhaps they complement each other in ways I don't recognize. In any event, we shall learn the outcome together.

...................................................Minutes.......................................=/-
Larry...........................................21.5................................................-4.........Very good showing except for 2 missed FT's. ISU scored 44 in his 22 minutes of play. He and Thomas played together the entire time Larry was on the floor in 2nd half as Larry went +6 in 9.5 minutes while Thomas netted -8 in 14.5 minutes. Maybe they can be effective together?

Shit. Your guess is as good as mine @DyedBlue I don't know if I have a prediction... I think a lot of it's predicated on how well Larry is playing and how teams decide to defend us moving forward. If Larry is going to play downhill - get to the rim and find people without turning it over then to your point they compliment each other well because Thomas seems to have a decent stroke. Larry is also rebounding well and playing decent D. He's earning his PT thus far - it wasn't going to be handed to him by JS.

Larry being in a position to be able to have the option to swing the ball to an open shooter, drive the ball and then as a last option shoot the ball is a very very positive thing for him and us alike. Last season he found himself in a position more often than not where he really was forced to keep the D honest and take the shot they were giving him... Again in most cases they were playing pack-line D and daring him to shoot. He didn't have the first two options of swing pass or drive.

JS is playing with a pretty short bench right now - I mean you had a blowout last night and Larry still played 39 minutes. You wouldn't typically play a guy that long in a blowout especially when you've got a quick turnaround the next night. Given that - again you're going to see guys playing a lot of minutes together anyway. That's just a product of him sticking with his thoroughbreds and riding them until they won't/can't run anymore.

In reference to your last statement, I think that is why we won't redshirt either crawford or peterson. If nothing else they will provide some needed rest for our "thoroughbreds." I actually think they both will be good players for us by seasons end, but the speed of the game is still a bit quick for crawford and I imagine it will take Peterson a little time to get up to speed.

Peterson, Yes..with thomas and bledson and larry I don't think his services are needed this year unless he is just a whole level above those guys...Crawford i'd play though..He is long and a pretty good athlete. We don't have anyone other than Henry that possesses those attributes at his size...We'll need him later this season.
